After nearly two weeks of searching, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department today caught up with a man accused of raping a 3-year-old girl.
Officers arrested Neftali Sanchez-Gonzales, 19, at a home in the 900 block of South Pacific Street in Newberg, said Sgt. Tim Weaver, a police spokesman.
"This has been on us for a long time," Weaver said. "We're just happy to bring him in."
On Feb. 3, Sanchez-Gonzales ran from a home where he had rented a room after the girl's mother confronted him. Phone tips placed him in Portland and Salem before leading officers to the Newberg home.
Sanchez-Gonzales was booked into the Yamhill County Corrections Facility in McMinnville tonight on $300,000 bail. He may also face charges on an unrelated, non-injury hit-and-run involving his red 1990 Thunderbird.
Investigators think the girl was the only victim.
