Edgar Montalvo, 46, of 38 Commonwealth Ave. was arrested after police arrived to check out an anonymous complaint that he was holding his family hostage with what witnesses described as a “billy club.” Officers could hear Montalvo yelling as they approached the home and were quietly let in the back door by his wife, police reports said.
The woman told police Montalvo became enraged when their son didn’t pause his Nintendo Wii game system fast enough to let in their barking dogs. He grabbed the game, smashed it and tossed the remnants out the front door, where police found them.
The woman said he pried her car keys out of her hand and refused to allow her and his son to leave. Witnesses said he used a billy club to hit the car of another family member car who tried to take the 14-year-old from the home.
At least twice, Montalvo told his wife he’d kill her, their children and himself and then burn down the house if she left him over his heroin use or called police, police said.
He was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree threatening, third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree unlawful restraint and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on bond until his appearance Monday in New Britain Superior Court. He is being held on $150,000 bond

In what may be one of the first documented cases of Wii-rage, a man held his family hostage after his son didn't pause a game soon enough.
Edgar Montalvo, 46, of Connecticut, flew into a rage when his son didn't pause his Nintendo Wii game quickly enough. Montalvo wanted the boy to look after the barking dogs.
Montalvo then smashed the Wii and threw it out the window. But for some unknown reason that wasn't enough to satisfy his anger and he decided to keep the entire family hostage using a billy club as a weapon.
He was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree threatening, third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree unlawful restraint and risk of injury to a minor.
There appeared to be no wii-related charges
