Steven Taylor 19 year old Florida Baby shaker, upset over video game interruptions

    Steven Taylor, 19

Man arrested in shaken-baby case (with REPORT)
FORT WALTON BEACH - A man faces aggravated child abuse charges for shaking a 2-month-old baby, Okaloosa County lawmen say.

Steven Taylor, 19, told sheriff's investigators he shook the boy because he wasn't breathing. But doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola said the infant's injuries were "not consistent with mild shaking as if to elicit a response," according to Taylor's arrest report.

Authorities didn't release the boy's condition but said his life was threatened.

Taylor, of Denton Boulevard, told deputies he was bathing the boy in an infant tub Jan. 22 but left momentarily to pause . When he came back to the tub, he said the boy's face was underwater.

Initially, the boy seemed unhurt. But as Taylor was dressing him in a crib, he said the boy stopped breathing.

Taylor started CPR and then shook the boy back, forth, up and down before heading to a neighbor's to call the boy's mother, he said.

Lawmen say he didn't call 911. Instead, Taylor took the boy to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center "only after constant insistence by the neighbors," according to his arrest report. Rescuers then took the boy to Sacred Heart via helicopter.

Doctors said his brain and an eye were bleeding, his skull was fractured and he suffered three fractured ribs and a subdural hematoma - all potential signs of Shaken Baby Syndrome.

SBS can be fatal but evidence of trauma is not always visible. Babies who survive it can suffer blindness, cerebral palsy and mental retardation.

Taylor bonded out of the Okaloosa County Jail on Jan. 24, an officer there said. He was scheduled to appear in court Feb. 17

Yeah, that's what you do when a baby stops breathing asshat. You shake them back and forth and up and down. How could you do this? I'm waiting, very impatiently, along with Silvahalo for that answer.

All because of a video game?? Answer us you evil bastard!!!

"They say half the brain died because he shook the baby," said Oralia Solorzano, Taylor's neighbor."

Solorzo says Taylor approached her family asking them for help reviving his 2-month-old son, after something happened inside his trailer. He claimed the baby stopped breathing, and Solorzo says he didn't want to involve doctors or police.

Neighbors say the baby looked dead.

"He was white," described Solorzo. "The eyes were kind of brown. He didn't move."

One neighbor called 911, while Solorzo's brother rushed Taylor's baby to Fort Walton Beach Medical. Doctors say the baby was hemorrhaging and they spotted three broken ribs. They diagnosed the baby with Shaken Baby Syndrome and rushed him to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.

The picture breaks my heart. So tiny, so fragile, so broken. So innocent.

Unfortunately these pictures are seen often here. I think seeing these pics should be included in mandatory parenting classes, before the baby is born.

Makes me so sad and angry... Heal baby boy, be a miracle.

Wow, thats some picture. Pretty heartbreaking to see what he did to this poor little boy. You can even see the bruises from were his hands grasped him at. A subdural hematoma is like putting the baby's head in a vice. I would imagine that poor baby's brain is in pretty bad shape.

FORT WALTON BEACH - A baby surviving on life support died Saturday, three months after his father was arrested for shaking him after a bath.

On Saturday, an aggravated battery charge against 19-year-old Steven Taylor, father of young Cory Taylor-Becvar, was upgraded to an open count of murder, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Taylor, sheriff's investigators said, was bathing 2-month-old Cory on Jan. 22 when he left to pause a video game. When he came back, he said Cory's face was under water.

At first, Taylor didn't believe Cory was injured. But later, in his crib, Cory stopped breathing, Taylor told deputies.

He said he started CPR and shook Cory in an effort to revive him. But doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola said Cory's injuries - a bleeding brain, a fractured skull, three fractured ribs and a subdural hematoma - were "not consistent with mild shaking as if to elicit a response," according to Taylor's arrest report.

The injuries were, however, signs of the often-fatal Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Contributing to the arrest were witness accounts that Taylor took Cory to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center "only after constant insistence by the neighbors," investigators said. He did not, or could not, immediately call 911.

A family member declined comment on the case Saturday night.

I respectfully disagree, Auddie. If this man... boy... whatever, if he offs himself, he will die never knowing the consequences of his actions. Or he'll turn out to be incompetent at suicide -- not something that you'd think it'd be easy to fuck up, but ask anyone who's worked in a mental hospital. Anyway, we have no proof they'll have any suffering after the moment of death.

On other threads, it's been suggested you just let HarleyTech skin them alive. I offered to help. I'm not a good shot now, but I have been present on deer hunts before and I'm passingly familiar with handling large game. I know Harley doesn't actually know me, but I'd be happy to help. I want little to do with the rest of his carcass, but I bet his skin would make lovely soft kid gloves.

Alternately, there seem to be a lot of cantankerous Southerners (or people who think they are such) on the board these days. We used to hang people for lesser reasons than this. If we absolutely know that this person did to his son what we think he did, he can swing from a tree for no other excuse than to make us feel better.

Point well taken ldhbird! I was thinking during my prayer that Lil Ones eyes looking up at Dad would never be able to haunt him, because Dad has no soul or conscience, but it was late and I was at a loss for words . . .

Steven Allen Taylor faces life in prison after being found guilty Friday of first-degree felony murder.

A jury of 10 men and two women sided with prosecutors in determining Taylor had shaken his son, 2-month-old Cory Taylor, violently enough to cause his death.

Taylor, 20, was also found guilty of aggravated child abuse.

He will be sentenced at 9 a.m., June 1, but the murder charge carries a mandatory life sentence.

Members of Taylor’s family wailed uncontrollably as the verdict was read.

Cory’s mother, Brittney Beavar-Wiley, was led from the courtroom by bailiff’s when her outburst interrupted the court proceedings.

Assistant State Attorney Bobby Elmore called the events surrounding Cory Taylor’s death “tragic.”

“This is a tragic case, as all homicide cases are tragic,” Elmore said.

He said the Taylor case was particularly troubling in that a 2-month-old child lost his life and a family was ripped apart “by a few seconds of anger.”
    [...]

Elmore called in a handful of medical experts during the week-long trial.

Some had examined Cory Taylor’s body and others professed knowledge in shaken baby syndrome.

Elmore noted in closing arguments Friday that all the experts had confirmed the same cause of death for the infant.

“Shaking with blunt impact. Abusive head trauma,” Elmore repeated three times, quoting the experts. “All of them say that the evidence is that that child was shaken, that child was impacted, causing a fracture, and that child died as a result.”

Taylor’s attorney, Clint Davis, was not available for comment after the verdict. But outside the courtroom he told an inconsolable Beavar-Wiley that he intended to “keep on fighting” on Taylor’s behalf.

Davis presented his own version of events to jurors Friday during his closing argument.

He reminded the jurors that doctors had determined Cory had suffered a temporal lobe fracture.

He tried to convince the panel that the child had shown signs of being sickly, perhaps as a result from whatever injury had resulted in the temporal lobe fracture.

Davis argued that there was no direct evidence of Steve Taylor physically abusing the child or evidence of him ever hurting anyone.

“It’s the evidence. It’s the evidence that you must look at in this trial,” he said.

Davis argued that perhaps Cory had died from an injury that couldn’t be detected, but had proved fatal over time.

Davis also questioned the credibility of a couple of the expert witnesses Elmore had brought in to testify.

Something tells me this won't be the last one of her kids to die at the hands of her latest penis. As for the punishment.. there is no thankfully no might about it.
Those convicted of first degree murder receive an automatic sentence of life in prison. Let's see how he deals with interuptions in there.

A subdural hematoma is like putting the baby's head in a vice
from the pressure, yeah...you have to do some force to be able to rip the connective tissue from the subdura... med lesson alert: subdural hamatomas (aka bruise) are pockets of blood between the dura and the brain, sub meaning under...a dural hematoma would be between the dura and the skull....subdurals are far more detrimental, as we all know...some require surgery by removing part of the skull for a bit to alleviate the swelling, swelling can be caused by 2 factors...blood build up and/or swelling of the brain itself

my daughter had a subdural hematoma...very ominous looking on cat scans...you see white where the blood bulids up...kinda like lookin at a photo negative, everything as far as 'colors' are reversed...luckily she healed completely with no ill effects but she was in the hospital for a week...and that was for a 'mild hematoma'
where's the Bold Fairy when you need him? I just KNOW you all are pointing & laughing at me in the "point & laugh" thread that I can no longer see!! :(

    Angry Very sad, indeed....

Steven Allen Taylor, in court (Devon Ravine-photo credit)

    When the trial began:
The state alleges that on Jan. 22, 2009, Cory Taylor “was shaken and either struck or struck against something” by his father.

The child went immediately into cardiac arrest, according to Elmore’s theory. He died three months later on April 18 without regaining consciousness.

Cory Taylor suffered an acute skull fracture, and the injuries he suffered caused brain hemorrhaging, Elmore told 14 jurors Tuesday. Doctors found “massive retinal bleeding” behind the child’s eyes, Elmore said.
In opening arguments for the defense, Public Defender Clint Davis told jurors to look carefully at the evidence. He said there are several plausible theories as to how Cory Taylor died, including one in which the child’s mother accidently bumped his head against a doorway.
Davis said he would present evidence showing the child had been lethargic and throwing up for some time before anyone noticed he was badly injured. He said he would also present testimony that head injuries sometimes are like a rock “slowly rolling downhill.” Evidence of the injury might not show up for days, Davis said.

This link: http://www.nwfdailynews.com/news/son...ty-infant.html Has a comment saying that Steven and Brittney had another child, Stevens mother has custody of him. Wasted no time, eh?
    sarahj22 wrote:

And that Steven wasn't abusing him. Do any of you know that they had a second baby together? and that the mother doesn't have custody of him? and never has. Guess who does? Stevens' MOM. Guess Children and Families felt that maybe the mom had something to do with cory's death. Seems the legal system FAILED here. I could have seen a manslaughter charge but murder? That's not right. It wasn't pre-meditated. It was a very tragic accident.

Convicted April 9 of shaking his infant son to death, Steven Taylor was sentenced Tuesday to serve life in prison without parole.

Circuit Court Judge Terry Ketchel sat through a lengthy motion for a new trial hearing before passing the sentence, which he was bound by state law to impose on the first-degree felony murder conviction.

“The court has no discretion,” Ketchel said. “Based on a conviction in court of a first-degree felony, I am required to issue a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.”

Taylor, 20, accepted the plea without noticeable reaction, but the same could not be said of the late infant’s mother, Brittney Beavar-Wiley.

Beavar-Wiley first laid into prosecutor Bobby Elmore with a foul-mouthed tirade.

A witness said that after being forcefully removed from the courtroom by a bailiff, Beavar-Wiley turned on Clint Davis, who had defended Taylor.

Outside the Shalimar courthouse annex, Beavar-Wiley directed an expletive-laden diatribe at a reporter.

“You’re the one who wrote that (expletive) (expletive),” she said.

Ketchel also sentenced Taylor to 25 years in prison for aggravated child abuse. That sentence will run concurrent to the life sentence.
    [...]

After Tuesday’s hearing, Elmore shrugged off the abuse he’d taken from Beavar-Wiley and lamented the sad circumstances leading up to the sentencing.

“A baby’s dead, and unfortunately a young man ruined his life in a fit of anger,” he said. “It’s unfortunate, but that’s the law.”

That baby killer might be in prison... but I fear for the future of any other children the "mother" has. She will clearly side with her penis over the safety of her children anyday.

They definitely need to be watching this 2nd baby very closely. I would be scared to death to think of the new baby being placed back with the egg donor since she's standing by her penis.

Rotten skanky egg donor.. There's other ways out there honey.. its called by yourself a toy and keep your baby safe.

Even if a new penis doesn't come into her life... her temper seems to be just as short as Steven's was.... she should NEVER be allowed to have her second kid back or have custody of any future ones.

"Taylor, of Denton Boulevard, told deputies he was bathing the boy in an infant tub Jan. 22 but left momentarily to pause . When he came back to the tub, he said the boy's face was underwater."

This is one lame defense, What idiot leaves a 2 month old in a bathtub alone and refuses to dial 911. I hope they kill his ass in jail slowly.

The "mother" of this poor baby needs to be watched very closely. With her volatile temper, perhaps the defense's argument of a pre-existing injury isn't too far fetched. This is not saying that Taylor isn't culpable for his actions (he is and his sentence is fitting, IMHO), but perhaps he didn't necessarily do the damage all by himself.
