Scranton man admitted Friday to sexually abusing two teens over seven years, just two weeks after his son was sentenced for similar conduct with a 12-year-old.
John J. Rodney, 46,
of 310 Soldier Court, went in front of Lackawanna County Judge Vito Geroulo Friday to plead guilty to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with someone under 16 and corruption of minors.
He was arrested in November after the two victims reported they had been abused. The girl, now 16, said Mr. Rodney paid her up to $50 each time to touch her breasts starting when she was 9. The boy, now 13, said Mr. Rodney paid him $20 to perform oral sex on multiple occasions and warned him not to tell or he would “get into a lot of trouble,” according to investigators.
Mr. Rodney will remain in prison until his sentencing hearing, which has not been set. The two charges carry a maximum of 25 years in prison and Deputy District Attorney Michelle Olshefski said she will ask for the state-mandated minimum of five years.
Friday’s guilty plea came just 16 days after Mr. Rodney’s son, John J. Rodney Jr., 21, was sentenced to five to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy in 2006.
Attorney John Lawler, who represented the younger Mr. Rodney, told Judge Geroulo that his client was sexually abused at a juvenile facility.
