CONCORD, N.C. -- A Charlotte-Mecklenburg School teacher and coach has been arrested and charged after police say he took inappropriate photos of students at his Concord home.
Michael Tye, Jr., appeared in court Tuesday afternoon on two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of indecent liberties with a student. He is being held in jail on $100,000 bond.
Police say he promised two different boys money to come to his house in Concord and pose for pictures. Capt. Gary Hatley describes those pictures as "pornographic."
"Fully clothed, undressed, and fully undressed," Hatley said.
Police do not believe they were disseminated. Tye's camera has been seized as evidence.
The 39-year-old teaches psychology at Independence High School. He is also the swim coach. The swim team had a special meeting with the Independence High School principal Tuesday to learn of the charges.
