William Warren Boyd, 36, of Glenwood Street, was charged with
first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, child abuse and reckless endangerment, according to online court records. He is being held
without bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. He was arrested at the detention center,
where he was being held for violating his probation on a 2005 burglary conviction, police said.
Emergency responders were called to the 400 block of Captains Circle at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 7 for the report of an unconscious child. They took the boy, Cyrus Besche, to Anne Arundel Medical Center and later transferred him to Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Cyrus died Dec. 10, and this week the medical examiner determined that his death was a homicide.
Mr. Boyd was arrested last night, said Jane Schlegel, city Police Department spokesman.
"Investigation revealed that the suspect had thrown Cyrus Besche into a couch causing him to fall unconscious," Mrs. Schlegel said.
Cyrus was in the care of his aunt, and Mr. Boyd is the aunt's boyfriend, she said.
Mr. Boyd has numerous criminal convictions for theft, mainly in the 1990s, but no violent criminal convictions, according to online court records.
Cyrus was born May 12, 2006, to Crystal A. Ferron, 19 and Tyler P. Besche. He lived in Annapolis, according to his obituary.
