According to police, detectives found several bite marks on the toddler's body and her face was severely bruised and swollen. The the two-year-old's mother took her to Wilson N. Jones Monday evening. That's when emergency room staff members called Sherman police.
After investigating, detectives determined the mother's fiance was responsible. And, the motive? A crying child.
"Our number-one call in child physical abuse is crying babies," says Sgt.
Bruce Dawsey, of the Sherman Police Department. "That's the number-one call across the nation and probably throughout the world is a crying child"
Investigators say the incident happened at an apartment complex in the 4800 block of Texoma Parkway. After obtaining a warrant, officers arrested 33-year-old Armando Campa Tuesday.
Campa has since been booked into the Grayson County Jail for injury to a child -- a felony offense. A judge set Campa's bond at $250,000.
