Two men held in Owen County beating death

But they AREN'T being charged with murder or manslaughter -- only for aggravated battery!!!

Two men are being held at the Brown County jail charged in a new year's day beating death of an Owen County man. Travis Raber, 18, and Matthew Walker, 19, are both being charged with aggravated battery.

According to police 31 year-old Richard Pursel was badly beaten on New Year's Day and died Sunday at Methodist Hospital when he was taken off life support.

Owen County Prosecutor Bob Andree, says the two young men are only being charged with battery because after the fight Pursel got up, went home, and went to bed.

Andree says the two had no intent to kill Purcel and had no knowledge of his death.

WTF? In another story, a 19 year old is being charged with manslaughter because his 14 year old victim died from meningitis 2 weeks after a fight --- these 2 asshats beat this man into an apparent coma and he consequently dies from his injuries - and they are NOT charged??

That is just wrong, wrong, wrong! Guess if I'm ever pissed at someone enough to kill them, I'll just drive them to Owen County, beat them within an inch of their lives - and be secure in the knowledge that, if they die later - I'll be safe from prosecution for anything harsher than battery!!! WAKE UP Mr. Andree!! They didn't beat him with the "intent" to make him feel better, either! They WANTED to hurt him and he DIED as a result of their beating. That is manslaughter!

Way to go! You resurfaced a thread that had been dead for a couple of years. Now, here is your prize - in cases where someone is killed by another persons hands I really could give a fuck what the victim supposedly did. The victim doesn't go to trial, and that one sure didn't get a chance to for anything he may or may not have. Your brain dead brother did though, and it was all on him because he took it upon himself to go with his friend and beat a man to the point he man died from his injuries. Actually, you know, there have been cases where there was a fight and the victim walked away and died later and the ones who were fighting with him were charged with murder. So, your brother is lucky he only got 15 years. I'm sure being an asshole was not a first offense for him.

It could very easily have been a younger guy beating up on an older man, and not some old man beating up on a 17 year old kid. I mean, you get a couple of kids and throw in some drugs or drinking..... man, they can take on anyone. I wouldn't see your brother as a victim, no matter how many videos you want to point out.

SPENCER, Ind. -- Charges against two Owen County teens accused of beating a man early New Year's Day will likely be upgraded now that the man has died, prosecutors said.

I read the appeals document that was posted above. There is no doubt that the idiots did not mean to kill the victim, but there is no way that they did not know that they were hurting another person, and in a quite cowardly fashion. I did not see anything in the appeals documents about the victim going from bar to apartment, etc.

basically, Walker told Raber to hold the victim, which Raber was more than happy to comply with. As Raber (the brother or brother-in-law to the dork who is currently gracing our forums to showcase her lovely intelligence and persuasive arguments) held the victim, Walker beat him. At some point, Walker's girlfriend (or sister? can't remember) started recording the beating with her cell phone. This is probably the video that the twat posting here has mentioned. I'm sure that the idiots probably showed it around quite a lot for a while before they were RIGHTFULLY arrested.

When I hear someone has taped a crime or any violence, it makes me a little sick to be honest. I wonder what's wrong with that person that not only do they have the DESIRE to see that stuff, but actually want to relive it and usually show it around the way that sane and normal people show videos of interesting events. Yet, I have to admit that I'm also happy that there are so many twisted and stupid individuals. It is proof of the crime, and therefore the idiocy that Tiffany and the rest of her idiot family and friends possess so abundantly is not the only thing that the trial court must use in order to convict. After all, though many people may believe that this absolute low, disgusting, worthless type of person would be best to be locked up just for prevention, unfortunately the law doesn't allow that action. Sigh. So at least the low-class skank did end up getting what would have probably been the final convictions that these mentally incompetent fools so very much deserved.

At least the children are relieved of one burden by the incarceration of Raber. Let's hope that Tiffany's obvious love for them (and regardless of the rest of the ignorance she displays, at least there is that, and that does count for something) is enough to help them survive past the ignorance of the rest of the family and their mom, and then hopefully when they're grown they will be the rare sort who actually decides NOT to be a detriment to society and do good with their lives and the chances they get.
