GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Terre Haute man was arrested outside Greenwood Park Mall after police said he left his 6-month-old daughter alone in a cold car.
Shoppers alerted police to a baby in the back seat of a car on New Year's Day.
Officers found the back windows of the car slightly rolled down and the girl wrapped in a blanket.
"The baby's hands were very cold. The baby had a jacket on and a blanket, but, obviously, it's not proper to leave a baby in a car unattended in 35-degree weather," said Greenwood Police Chief Joe Pitcher.
Brandon Ross, 26, was arrested when he returned to the car. Police said he had been shopping in the mall. He was preliminarily charged with neglect, possession of a stolen car and possession of narcotics.
Police were still searching for the baby's mother, Terra Partin, 30, also of Terre Haute.
