Official: Teen sexually assaults girl in class

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Authorities in Gainesville say a 14-year-old boy sexually assaulted a female classmate as other students in the special-needs classroom watched.

The teen was charged this week with sexual battery and false imprisonment. Another boy is accused of helping hold down the girl, who is also 14.

Alachua County Sheriff's Office spokesman Art Forgey said the Dec. 15 incident happened at Kanapaha Middle School while the teacher had stepped out of the room for about 10 minutes. That teacher has since been disciplined, according to a spokeswoman for Alachua County Public Schools.

You do not leave special needs kids unattended ever not even for a minute. I can't believe she doesn't have a special assistant to help her in the classroom. If she doesn't they need to get one. I feel this teacher is just as responsible for this happening.

That's awful. That girl (or any of the kids for that matter) should never have been put into that situation. I don't think ANY 14 year olds should be left unattended for 10 minutes in a school setting, let alone special needs.
