Cody Ray Payne: Redneck, but not quite redneck enough.

Under the word "Hispanic" in the "Redneck Encyclopedia", it apparently clearly states that:

    1) All hispanics are illegal immigrants.

    2) They always live 10-20 in one house.

Cody Ray Payne and a couple of his pals read that first part and got a bright idea. To them, hispanic = illegal immigrant = "will not call police" if you, say, decide to pack some heat and break into their home at about 3AM or whatnot. In their excitement they must have skipped over part 2, which infers that should a redneck have such an awesome light bulb as theirs pop on, they can and will encounter at least a small handful of residents once they dumb-ass their way on in. Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened.

According to the police, there were about 15 to 20 family members in the home at the time of the break-in, many of whom were still awake when it happened. The homeowner grabbed his gun upon hearing the commotion, gunfire was exchanged, and Cody Ray Payne didn't make it past the front yard.

Oh, and get this: When all was said and done the residents of the home called the police (I know, insert huge gasp here). While Cody Ray didn't make it out, his pals did. So somewhere out there tonight there are two bumbling hillbillies whizzing in their drawers until they get caught. Two of three who didn't think they'd ever be looked for to begin with.

So, were these people illegal aliens?

I don't know. The article never says, and the homeowner and the family members who were shot are never named.

According to one poster on the newspaper's site:

    "SraChavez, (12/24/2008 8:51:23 AM)
Hooray for the husband for protecting his family. I hope his wife has a speedy recovery.

Most of you concerned about the 15 to 20 people being in the home should know that the mexican (if they are mexican) families have what is called a "Niño Dios" (Baby Jesus) celebration. All the family and friends gather to celebrate the death and rising of Jesus. They sing special spiritual songs, say the rosary, and serve a delicious meal and hot spiced fruit punch called ponche. Many times the oraciones (prayers) don't begin until midnight. 3:00 in the morning would probably be after the ceremonies and time when those who are not driving home would sit around and talk, children getting ready for bed. 15 to 20 people is a fairly small number of people to be at one of these type events. Many probably have gone home, and only some have stayed to visit or sleep."

A rifle?? What kind of Tard uses a rifle for a home invasion???

Shortly before 3 a.m., three people broke into a home in the 1300 block of North Irvington Avenue, Tulsa Police Cpl. Mark Shelton said.

Many of the 15 to 20 occupants were awake, including the homeowner, who heard the break-in and got his gun.

Two of the burglars, including one who was armed, were moving through the house when they encountered the homeowner, Shelton said.

Gunfire was exchanged. The homeowner shot one of the burglars twice in the chest, and the homeowner’s wife was shot in the abdomen.

The wounded burglar, 15-year-old Cody Ray Payne, left the house before collapsing and dying in the front yard.

The homeowner’s wife was hospitalized but is expected to recover.

The other two burglars ran from the house and were not found, Shelton said. They were described as black, in their late teens and wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark baggy pants ????.

Authorities said Cody Ray Payne and two other teens broke into the home about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived at the house on N Irvington Avenue, they found Payne’s body beside a rifle in the front yard.

A woman in the house had a "bullet graze to the stomach,” according to police. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told police three black males, possibly in their late teens, kicked in the front door. One of the men was carrying a rifle, they said. The homeowner grabbed a handgun. The homeowner, whose name was not released, shot the 15-year-old at least once in the torso, police said. The others ran.

I came into this thread assuming some dumbass white boys had made their mark on ignorance. Seems the word redneck was used too quick.

"They were described as black, in their late teens and wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark baggy pants"

I live in Fuquay-Varina NC. I see rednecks everyday. I would not describe them as black and wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark baggy pants. Now that is the undeniable truth. :)

They were stupid but not Redneck. Rednecks are not black teenagers dressed in hoodies. They are white usually poor people dressed in flannel or sweat shirts. Many times they ALSO have 15 -20 kin 'n friends staying in the house, especially during the holidays.
Sawry, maybe THAT'S why they didn't know to expect 15-20 people in the house.
By the way, a LOT of hispanics here in California have 10-15 people even in a 2 bedroom apartment. Why? Because rent is so fucking expensive here and pay for menial or day labor doesn't keep up with it. Hispanics, legal or illegal, fill many of these low paying positions. Thus, 10-15 people in a 2 bedroom apartment. Think $1100 a month, plus utilities, and that's in a BAD neighborhood.
My one bedroom apartment? $1700/month in a decent neighborhood.

Rednecks are white people, usually poor, who dress in flannel shirts, sweats and jeans NOT black kids in hoodies. And most rednecks prefer to break in while the occupants are out. Steal your shit and drink your beer. But they don't want to have to exchange gunfire with you. Too much effort...surely SOMEONE must have left for the holiday.
This is more like a crime in the hood.
These boys were just plain stupid. It's sad because one of these stupid kids is now dead. But I'm glad that the woman they shot is going to be o.k.

By the way, it is not unusual for 10-20 hispanics to stay in a one or two bedroom apartment here in California. Rent is expensive and, legal or illegal, most hispanics fill menial jobs which pay minimum wage (or less if they're illegal). Thus, 10 - 15 hispanics may be required in order to pay $1150 a month plus utilities for a two bedroom apartment (in a BAD neighborhood with no parking). Which is why I am a firm believer in learning English and furthering your education once you move here.
In a better neighborhood that rent is about $1700 a month and UP plus utilities.

hmmm...now WHY did my first posting NEVER show up until I gave up and put in ANOTHER posting?

I almost went with "If you were white, you might be a redneck". Instead I went with the whole misread "What Every Redneck Knows" thing. Even if he'd been white, Cody Payne would've failed the redneck qualifying exams. I know very few rednecks who'd ever go busting into a house full of anybody like that, particularly if said redneck knows it's a hispanic home given the corresponding redneck mentality in this area on the subject.

    From the article:

"The victims, a Hispanic family, did not want their names released, said Capt. Ryan Perkins. Hispanic families throughout the city have been a “target of robberies and burglaries” because of the perception among criminals that Hispanics keep large amounts of cash on them or inside their home, he said.

Hispanics also may have been targeted recently because of the perception that they are reluctant to report a crime to police due to recent immigration laws in Oklahoma, he said.

About a month ago, multiple “home invasions” involving Hispanic victims occurred in north Tulsa, but a group of individuals were recently taken into custody in connection to those crimes. Since then, police have noticed that robberies and burglaries involving Hispanics in north Tulsa have dropped, Perkins said."

P.S. I really wanted to just pop on here and say "Rednecks, like skittles, come in a rainbow of colors", but I figured that with this response, I could use the word redneck a few more times. ;)
