Boyfriend left kid alone, kitchen started on fire

A Lincoln man is in jail after leaving a 3 year old alone in an apartment that caught fire.

Police say it happened at 3617 Baldwin just before one Monday morning..

Authorities say a mother left her house with a pot of food cooking on the stove.

Police say her boyfriend, 26- year-old Van Gamble was left watching her child, but police say he also left.

A neighbor smelled smoke and found the child sitting on the couch alone with smoke filling the apartment. He got her out and called 9-11.

Police say gamble showed up at the home a short time later and was arrested for felony child neglect.

Twenty-six year old Van Gamble came running up after firefighters arrived to put out a kitchen fire, and said he was at a neighbors for just 15 or 20 minutes. He was charged with felony child neglect and possession of marijuana. The child's mother had gone to work around 11 Sunday night and left something cooking on the stove and put Gamble in charge of watching her daughter.

People are just so stupid sometimes. In what universe is it ok to leave a 3 yr old by themselves??? Not mine, I can tell ya that. Thanks to that neighbor who decided not to be a bystander and save that little girl from a horrible fate.
