Actor Cuts Throat On Stage

Try this for an Agatha Christie plotline: performing on stage inside Vienna's Burgtheater, one of Europe's oldest and grandest, an actor takes a knife to his throat in his character's desperate attempt at suicide. As audience applause fills the opulent theater, blood pours from the actor's neck. But something's not right. Buckling and staggering his way off stage, the actor collapses to the floor. That's because the knife, and the harm that it's done, are both tragically real.

Unfortunately for Daniel Hoevels, a 30-year-old actor from Hamburg, those pages from a murder-mystery came to life last Saturday night during a performance at the Burgtheater of Mary Stuart, Friedrich Schiller's play about the wretched life of Mary Queen of Scots. Rushed to the nearby Lorenz Bohler hospital having sliced through skin and fat tissue but thankfully not his main artery, Hoevels was fortunate to survive. "Just a little deeper," said Wolfgang Lenz, a doctor who treated him, "and he would have been drowning in his own blood."

They think what happened was someone got lazy and forgot to dull the blade. I guess they want it to look realistic, so they buy real knives and dull the blades.

something does not sound right here. when i buy a new athame or buy dh a sword, they come dull & have to be sharpened. hmmmmmmmm

A few years ago, a Buffalo Sabre from the hockey team got his throat cut by a skate near the goalie, there was a huge puddle of blood on the ice, it was so horrifying. He didn't die either, but it was very touch and go for awhile.

There was an incident just this past February involving Richard Zednik who also played for Buffalo.

Could that be the one your thinking of?

No, it was the one many years ago, because I was still married to the Crazy Man. Time does fly.

And I'm not even a hockey fan. Well, I do think this guy's name is kind of cute....

This past Feb. Richard Zednik had his throat cut but he is with the Panthers who were playing Buffalo in the game he was injured. (sorry, NHL whore..specially for the Sabres)

Sorry, I just HAD to do that! I saw some DD'ers on the frontpage today "SCREAMING" at someone about not staying on subject. So I was just dying to make an annoying ass of myself and do the same thing.
By the way, I have 4 vacuum cleaners, a carpet shampooer and a swiffer wetjet mop.

By the way.....if you ever see someone injured like the hockey player was...
See if you can find the severed major artery or vein and:

Pinch both ends closed to stave off the bleeding.

You cannot push the ends back together but you can pinch both ends closed
