Miami Beach Police have accused a doctor of leaving his 8-month old son locked in his car at Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Pablo Guala was arrested Tuesday morning after officers were called out to the medical complex at 4300 Alton Road by security. The guard found an infant locked inside a vehicle. According to the police report, the vehicle was not parked properly, all windows were closed and all doors were locked. The engine was not turning.
Officers on scene tried to open the car, but 20 minutes after finding the child inside they say Guala came out and said he was the child's father, unlocking the car doors for them.
Police say Guala told them he went inside to see a patient and it took longer than he thought. The baby was red and sweating profusely. Fire Rescue responded as a precaution, and the child did vomit on officers and fire rescue personnel. No major complications were reported by them.
A Department of Children and Family case worker was called out to the scene and turned the boy over to his mother. Guala was arrested and charged with Child Neglect.
Officials at the hospital pointed out that Guala is not an employee of the hospital but does have privileges to see patients there, as well as in Hialeah and Palmetto Hospitals.
