OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 15-year-old has been charged in connection with the killing of a pregnant woman in northeast Oklahoma City.
John M. Jones, 15, was booked Thursday into the Oklahoma County Jail and charged as an adult with two counts of murder in the death of Tina Thomas, 19. Thomas was found dead in a home at 1524 NE 14th St.
Police Sgt. Paco Balderrama said there were "obvious signs of trauma" to the woman.
In a news release from the Oklahoma City Police Department, investigators said they turned their eyes to Jones while interviewing other witnesses. However, Jones' mother says her son is innocent.
"My son didn't kill her. For real, and he's 15. You know what I'm saying? He's 15," said Tykisha Jones.
She said her son went to Thomas' house to sell the woman and her boyfriend, Tony Mitchell, a television. However, Mitchell wasn't at home, and so Jones used Thomas' cell phone to call him.
"He said he gave the phone to Tina and said, 'I'll be right back. I'm going to go get the TV,'" Jones said. "He said, 'Mama, when I left, Tina was alive.'"
However, police think differently, and investigators arrested the 15-year-old when he showed up at the house again.
Jones' mother said she thinks her son may know something about what happened and that, perhaps, he is waiting to tell Thomas' boyfriend.
