NEWARK -- A 62-year-old man was charged with rape Tuesday afternoon in connection with alleged abuse of a pre-teen 10 years ago, according to court and police documents.
A Licking County grand jury also might consider a felony charge of gross sexual imposition against Robert W. Rardain Sr., last known address 5888 Horns Hill Road, Newark.
Rardain was employed as a custodian at Heath High School until Monday. The alleged victim named in the charges is not a student in Heath schools.
The girl first told her mother of the abuse after it allegedly occurred May 1998 to July 1998, but she recently began having nightmares and raised the allegations again, an affidavit in support of Rardain's arrest reads.
When confronted a decade ago by the alleged victim's mother, Rardain denied the child's claims, the affidavit states.
But under interrogation this month by investigators and family, he allegedly confessed to sexual conduct and contact with the young girl, the affidavit concludes.
He was arrested after an interview at the Newark police department on Monday evening.
