A 19-year-old man has committed suicide live on the internet encouraged by others who were watching, according to reports.

The teenager, named as Abraham K Biggs, from Broward County, Florida, took an overdose of pills while broadcasting himself on Justin.tv, a live video streaming website.

They tell them how to tie nooses so they can hang themselves and they egg each other on to do it live. It's sick. People really do this. I remember watching dateline or something and they pulled messages that said,"no one loves you. just die." and,"you're family is ashamed of you. just leave this world." it's awful.

My brother killed himself. I knew he was depressed, yet I didn't call the cops or have him committed. Am I to blame? Nope, he is. He was a big boy of 21 and did this to HIMSELF. When you kill YOURSELF you are to blame, no matter what. It was in poor taste for them to sit around watching it and trashtalking but not illegal, and certainly doesn't make them guilty of his death.

It's not their fault that he decided to commit suicide. It's their fault that he died because they didn't report it. They sat there and watched it. If you slit your wrists in front of me, should I stand there and watch you bleed to death, or should I call 911?

He was not charged because it is not illegal to not report crimes. It has something to do with the fact that we as a free nation cannott compel average people to act as good samaritins, and then jail them if they don't. It isn't right. So even though, like i said it was incredibly tasteless, it is not illegal. And not their fault he is dead. This is the link about the case.

It's under the good samaritan law. Some states make it a punishable offense not to help someone. Obviously Nevada doesn't require that type of action. No surprise to me there.

Also, the facts are this, while it is not illegal (the legalities of this I am not arguing) to not report a crime, it shows how morally bankrupt these assholes are and yes, they SHOULD bear the guilt of a death they could have prevented for the rest of their lives. How anyone, for 7 hours, could sit and watch someone eat all those pills, lay down, convulse, and stop breathing and do NOTHING makes them guilty of letting him die. Should have been strung up by his left nut and left swinging in wind...but that is just personal. I frankly am disturbed that ANYONE could think watching someone die and taping it is alright or not that big a deal. This kids death was preventable. He had a long history of mental illness, and yes even his family said it was trying as he had tried this many times before, but that doesn't mean by a few flexes of fingers by dialing the phone this kid might have got the help he needed.

We have a family website. Several years ago one of my brothers posted a suicide note on it. My father called me (as I am the admin) and we took it down. What happened afterwords was a terror.

He lives in Oregon. We are all in the mid-west. We had the Eugene police and the state patrol looking all over. But it was a major chore to get them to listen to us. We finally tracked down his ex and she gave us a few places to go look.

He was eventually found alive laying on the side of a mountain. He had OD'd but collapsed before he could jump. After months of treatment, he was deemed to be fine. Today, he seems still to be OK, but we all worry.

If I knew that he had an "audience", I would have personally tracked them down and web-camed their beatings.

Well as I said in both my posts it was in extremely poor taste for them to sit around watching and making jokes. But I was arguing that legally nothing they can be charged for. And Mamma is right, there are people that pull stunts like this for the attention when really it is all fake. How much can you trust to be real on the internet? Not much it seems to me. Also he seemed to have a case of "calling wolf", as he had said he was going to overdose more than once, then didn't.

That said I agree that if you see a crime happening in "real life" like the rape and do nothing you are a douche of the highest order and should be strung up. Because in real life unlike the internet you can be sure what you are seeing is real.

MIAMI (AP) — A college student committed suicide by taking a drug overdose in front of a live webcam as some computer users egged him on, others tried to talk him out of it, and another messaged OMG in horror when it became clear it was no joke. Some watchers contacted the Web site to notify police, but by the time officers entered Abraham Biggs' home — a scene also captured on the Internet — it was too late.

Biggs, a 19-year-old Broward College student who suffered from what his family said was bipolar disorder, or manic depression, lay dead on his bed in his father's Pembroke Pines house Wednesday afternoon, the camera still running 12 hours after Biggs announced his intentions online around 3 a.m.

It was unclear how many people watched it unfold.

Biggs was not the first person to commit suicide with a webcam rolling. But the drawn-out drama — and the reaction of those watching — was seen as an extreme example of young people's penchant for sharing intimate details about themselves over the Internet.

Biggs' family was infuriated that no one acted sooner to save him, neither the viewers nor the Web site that hosted the live video, Justin.tv. The Web site shows a video image, with a space alongside where computer users can instantly post comments.

Only when police arrived did the Web feed stop, "so that's 12 hours of watching," said the victim's sister, Rosalind Bigg. "They got hits, they got viewers, nothing happened for hours."

She added: "It didn't have to be."

An autopsy concluded Biggs died from a combination of opiates and benzodiazepine, which his family said was prescribed for his bipolar disorder.

Biggs announced his plans to kill himself over a Web site for bodybuilders, authorities said. But some users told investigators they did not take him seriously because he had threatened suicide on the site before.

Oh but the gawkers did do some dialing - to be fair, some called police which is how this guy was discovered in the first place after a sufficent number of motionless hours had passed to convince them it might be real, but others called him right up and left obnoxious messages urging him to kill himself. I'm from BROWARD COUNTY and a friend went to high schhol at Pines with this kid...his family is so distraught how this can just happen in the bedroom right next to theirs and the whole world was allowed to watch...

i feel so bad for them..and it took that long to actually have someone notify the police. :(
