The Need For Speed

No messages... Ok so I will start. Yes, I am a girl but there is nothing like a fast car. My whole life revolves around cars honestly. My son's father, Brad and I started a company in 2002... http://www.rimsandthings.com Our warehouse is located in Greenville, SC.

I have driven right-hand-drive R34 Skylines, RX7s, Type Rs... all kinds of beautiful cars... Makes me moist in the nether-regions, ya heard me? LOL!

I also love american muscle and bikes... What do you all drive? I drive an Integra (B16)... but am looking at a Nissan right now...

OK, well if the screen name didn't give it away, I'm a Harley mechanic. Have been for 21 years now. I spent 7 years working for HDMC and many more working for dealerships. I know fuel injection, like fat kids know cake.

In high school I had a V8 Chevy Monza because every swingin Richard had a Camaro and I was different.
Also had a 54' five window PU with a screamin little mouse motor. (12 second truck)
In the early 80s I had both a 67 Chevy PU so low you couldn't stand a cigarette pack up under the front bumper and a 68 elCamino with a mouse motor also.

I've built more go fast Harleys than I can count, everything from flat track and road racers to Nitro 1/4 milers.

Worked for Raymond Beetle back in the early 80 in the trailer shop building haulers for drag racers and circle track teams. I'd list a bunch of names you've heard I built for but that would get long and old. Raymond owned Rusty Wallace's Winston Cup car when he won his Championship, Sammy Swindell's WOO car, and of course the Blue Maxx funny car.

I've been as fast as 6.27 @ 227 mph in an alcohol dragster, 180mph in a Winston cup car (back up car with a throttle block installed :( ) 200 kts in a plane I was piloting, and 9 seconds on a few street bikes.

I'm a pilot and until three weeks ago owned a Beechcraft Sport 150. Current rides are 07' F150 Super Crew, 08' H-d FLHX with several engine mods in the works on the bike.

If it burns fuel, I'll work on it, drive it, race it, wheelie it, or just sit in the garage on a milk crate and stare at it for hours.

    What Would Satan Do
Now that's what I'm talking 'bout Willis!
I knew there just had to be some other motorhead/speedfreak/adrenaline junkies here at D'D so I made the group, but I wasn't sure how to start.
So thank you Funk & Harley for kicking things off! :thumb:

Growing up I spent a lot of time as the gofer in my Grandfather, Uncles, and Dad's garages.
Sometimes I was actually helpful, other times I get the feeling that...well, I'm still searching for a left-handed monkey wrench and a windshield wiper sharpener.
Especially during summer vacations from school, if I wasn't riding my bicycle I could usually be found with it (or one of the other neighborhood kids bikes) upside down and apart in the garage.
Then came motorcycles! Unless I couldn't afford to fill the gas tank, I was always riding...usually trying to see how much faster I could go, or how much farther and higher I could launch myself into the air. There's nothing like that feeling of momentary weightlessness before gravity overcomes momentum and pulls you back to earth. Though I love knowing how stuff works and building things, I had way more fun riding than wrenching. At best, my bikes got the crud knocked off the chain and the oil changed occasionally, but I usually knew somebody who could use an extra pair of hands on whatever they were building.
Finally I was old enough to drive. '76 Chevy custom deluxe pick-up, '77 Pontiac Grand Prix, '85 Honda Prelude, '86 Ford Escort GT *hangs head in shame*, '84 Chevy Monte Carlo, and currently a '87 Monte Carlo LS...all got tweaked, lightened, and generally modified to Better Than Stock
I've got a '96 Harley Sportster 883 with some minor mods (#1. A real fucking gas tank.). Thanks to the one MVA I was in where I wasn't driving, I only get out a few times a year but there's no way I'm giving it up.
Along the way I've worked at a small airport and an armored car company and couldn't resist the lure of those garages.
Most recently I helped build a Factory Five Roadster that's crazy fun, my friend has a convertible Fox-body Mustang that he's "allowed" to do one upgrade a year to, and long term we're working on a frame-off resto of a '67 Vette.

Beautiful women who love beautiful machines are just plain HOT !!!

All the gorgeous women here at D'D, surely more than Funk & Imp have uttered the words:

I found this kind of interesting. Sent to me in an e-mail.

This is the 1936 Ford Coupe built for and owned by Allegheny LudlumSteel. It
was attending our open house and then was featured in a local parade with
over 100 of our salaried, hourly and retired employees walking alongside.
This is 1 of only 4 in existence and is the only one currently in running &
in roadworthy condition. The car is in exceptional condition, with the
interior and even the frame looking great.

All 4 cars each had over 200,000 miles on them before they removed them from
service. These cars were built for Allegheny as promotional and marketing
projects. The top salesmen each year were given the honor of being able to
drive them for one year. The v-8 engine (max 85 hp) ran like a sewing
machine and was surprisingly smooth and quite. I thought this was a much
better looking automobile than the Ford Thunderbird that visited us last
    year.

FYI, the car was insured (we were told) for the trip to
covered trailer for 1.5 million dollars. We were also told that the dies
were ruined by stamping the stainless car parts, making these the last of
    these cars ever produced.

More information of the history on these automobiles can be found at
    Allegheny Ludlum's website

First is Jay Leno's garage. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/

And here is a segment from his garage that will just blow your mind. For the old car buffs, this is great.

    Thanks for sharing Harley.
I'd like to get my hands on his Shelby Mustang.

It's Spring time and car shows are starting up around here. I fully intend to get myself out there this year. I had some assholes at the last show I did, work out a trade for pics and even posters and didn't live up to their end of the bargain.

Have to rethink my strategy so I get promoted and help them out as well without going into the hole.

Harley-Tech is building a new motor. This one is for me.

I'll come back and post all the details soon (hopefully before Monday).

It will be 107 cubic inches on my 2009 FLHX. Ported heads, Screamin Eagle 255 cams, Total Seal rings are being made now, Throttle body is being ported along with the heads.

    More after this weekends ride.

I thought I’d finally join a group and I liked the sound of this one. I love fast cars, motorcycles, and boats. I grew up around Harleys my whole life, and love the feeling of the wind in my hair, the sun on my face, and the pavement at my feet. I found about the same feeling on the water with a Sea Doo that I currently own. My favorite car owned was a 71 Mustang fastback with a 351 Cleveland under the hood. I’ll have to try to find some pictures to post.

This one isn’t about speed, but saw Jay Leno’s garage posted above. He just bought a fuel truck from down here where I live. I know the guy that restored it and got a couple of pics of it. Jay wanted something to hold fuel in for his garage and he couldn’t have stationary tanks. He had it picked up just a couple of weeks ago.

Not much happening ATM, still collecting parts. The heads will be done by the middle of next week. The throttle body is ported, and the over sized valves are installed, just need to blend the ports to the new valve seats.

Depending on how much the heads flow, I may have to order a 58mm throttle body. Another $500.00 :(

The cylinders from Axtel are friggin AWESOME. Very heavy liner that should be very stable for great ring seal.

I had Total Seal convert my rings to their style rings and ordered a 3" deep air filter assembly from Zippers. I'll order the D&D pipe next Monday.

Effin Harley introduced a new cam last week that I really like, but it is hard to pass on the FREE cams I have for it right now. I'm still on the fence about changing cams before I start. The newer cam would work better with the pipe I'm using (more TDC overlap)

I hope all the parts are in by Monday after next. I want to do the build on that Monday if possible. I want to put 500 miles break in on it before I Dyno tune it.

At 107ci, I'm figuring on 120HP and maybe as much as 130 ft lbs of torque.

    R

PS. Morbid, I'll take this old clunker off your hands. I'll throw it up on jacks and give it a new coat of paint. How much ya want for it?

I love Top Gun quotes, " Your ego's writing checks your body can't cash!"

The Right Stuff(1983)The demon lived at Mach 1 on the meter, seven hundred and fifty miles an hour, where the air could no longer move out of the way. He lived behind a barrier through which they said no man could ever pass. They called it the sound barrier.

    The Worlds Fastest Rail Train

FYI, the top speed listed at the end is in kilometers...equal to 357.2 miles per hour!

This is a high speed train built by the Alstom Rail Group in Belfort, France. They share manufacturing facilities with GE Energy Products, Europe (EPE) Gas Turbine Group.

The train hit 574.8 Km/h which works out to 357.2 MPH or Mach 0.482.

In particular, watch the train going under a bridge with people watching. This is FAST!

Well, the engine is built. 107 Cubic Inch displacement, up from 96 CI

    Starting from the bottom up:
    Stock 4 1/8" stroke flywheels
H-D 259F cams, stock lifters (roller lifters stock)
    Perfect fit tapered push rods
Axtell mountain motors 3 15/16ths bore cylinders
Axtell forged pistons made by J&E
    Rings converted to Total Seal
    o-ringed bases gaskets
    H-D graphite head gaskets
Heads ported by Racing Engine Service with Manley Stainless steel 1.900 intake and 1.625 exhaust valves
Throttle body port matched to the heads.
    Heads have automatic compression releases
Zippers 3" deep air cleaner on H-D Air Cleaner backing plate
    D&D Fatcat 2-into-1 exhaust system.
H-D Screamin Eagle Race Tuner in the ECM

After 500 of break in I put it on the dyno last Friday. Keep in mind this is with a bese tune and no fine tuning on the dyno, that comes a little later.

    105.6 HP
    104.7 Ft Lbs of torque

    Stock is about 68 HP
and about 70 Ft.Lbs of torque

Dyno tuning should yield about 2-3 more HP and 3-5 Ft Lbs of torque more when done.

Overall I'm very happy with the bike. It makes a 800# bike feel like it is a couple hundred pounds lighter and it does wheelies just rolling on the throttle. ;)

Oh, and I'm still averaging about 35 MPG.

As a comparison, the stock Screamin Eagle Touring bike that is 110 Cubic inches make about 90 HP and about 80 Ft Lbs of torque and cost about $33,000.00

The world’s fastest amphicar – the WaterCar Python

A California company has combined a Corvette with a luxury speedboat and thrown in some jet ski to create a holy trinity of awesomeness it calls the WaterCar Python.

For around $170,000, you can pick up a Python rolling chassis and install a General Motors LS series engine of your choosing — from a used LS1 to the same mind-bendingly powerful LS9 found in the Corvette ZR1. Choose that level of insanity and WaterCar estimates the engine and transaxle installation should run an additional $30 to $50K.

Once installed, the Python will make short work of your trip to the boat launch with an average 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds. Once you get to the yacht club, stun your high society friends by driving the Python straight into the water, pressing one button to retract the wheels and another to start the jet. You’ll be gliding on a bright blue highway in seconds. Far from a glorified Amphicar, this baby can do 60 mph on the water.

I like amphicars, but for the price of this thing, I could buy a fast car and a fast boat, each with more luxury and speed than this “WaterCar.” It’s still cool though.

    Something a little different.

If you happen to own an Android powered phone there is an app in the market that turns your phone into a dyno capable of measuring speed, power, 1/4 mile times and a host of other performance items.

    http://dynomaster.trackaroo.com/web/dynomaster

Search Dynomaster in the android market. It cost $4.99 and is pretty interesting so far. After I make some runs on the bike I'll post the results.
