Attention Neglectful/Abusive Animal Owners

Attention Abusive/Neglectful Pet Owners!

First and foremost, I'd like to introduce you to "Responsibility". When you receive, adopt, buy, find & take home, whatever it is you did to become an animal owner, you agreed to take on a life, one that depends on you almost completely.

Can't afford proper care? Perhaps you should consider earthworms as pets...

Don't have the time to deal with the animal? Stick with the earthworms...

Don't even like animals? Why the hell do you have one?

Animals are not people, they do not do things to spite you, they aren't out to get you. The closest thing to it that an animal may do is disrespecting you, and that's still not the same thing as another person doing the same. Respect is not some automatic prize like getting $200 in monopoly for passing go, you do have to earn it... and cruelty generally doesn't do the trick.

Pets are not born with the innate knowledge of what you want, they must be taught, like you had to be taught. Did you just magically start using a toilet? Bah, you couldn't even damned well walk... Do you think perhaps there's a learning curve for an animal being cared for by an utterly different species, maybe there will be some... delay between the lesson and the learning? (And some creatures pick things up incredibly quick all considering)

Hey look! The dog pissed on the floor while you were out! That rat-bastard! How dare he! Quick... commence beating! Never mind the fact that you left the dog alone in the house before you left for work, not bothering to let him out before you went. Never mind the fact that he probably held having to go through the night, how often do you wake up without having to take one hell of a whiz?

Hey! The dog ate my shoes/hat/couch!! He's the worst dog on the planet, he's too stupid to breathe! Commence beating? Throw dog away like so much trash? Hey, maybe its not the dog who's too stupid! Maybe its the idiot who got a dog with no clue how a dog behaves much less how to train one? For future reference, dogs eat things... everything... everywhere... if you're lucky, it won't be something that gave them the squirts. Oh and puppies... puppies can seem like evil incarnate, adorable devious little eating/destroying/havoc making machines they are.

It doesn't take a decent human being to abuse an animal, it doesn't take a strong person, a smart person, nor a good person to do it. It takes a coward, it takes someone without the brains and forethought to know what they were getting into by taking on a living breathing sentient creature. No one will look back and think "Wow, remember Bob? He could sure get some distance when he was out kicking cats for fun!" There will never be an article in the history books detailing the thrilling tale of the jackass who starved a farm full of animals, unless its in disdain at best. Congratulations, you can abuse a domesticated creature, an animal designed specifically to be easily controlled by people, way to go! Here's your cookie, do me a favour and go choke on it.

You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat animals, those weaker than them, or those over who they exert control.

So, in summary, if you have a creature, want a creature, or plan to get one, please consider the following:

1. Animals don't speak human
2. LEARN LEARN LEARN about the animal you're taking on
3. Animals don't have spite (Except perhaps cats)
4. It only proves you're an asshole if you can beat the crap out of a pet, and trust me... no one likes you.
5. Animals require food, water, shelter, training and health-care at the very least.

You can tell everything about a person by the way they treat their pets, and I do mean everything. That trait is never wrong, IMO.

Yeah - once in a while my cat jumps up on my table and knocks my drink to the floor - I'm pretty sure she's being spiteful then.

    But never my dog.

All dogs want to do is love you and be loved..I'm pretty sure there are even some cats who love their owners but they might not admit it. lol Thanks for saying this, I wish every ass hole could adhere to those rules, and they should probably consider these before procreating too.

I accidentally cut a whole bunch of earthworms in half with my shovel the other day when I was digging a hole to plant a bush.

They were squatters and had no right to be on my property. If they are homeless or dead now it is their own damn fault. They should have known what was coming. the bush and the shovel had been sitting there for WEEKS waiting for me to plant it.

I am NOT a bad person.

Children you torture animals usually grow up to torture people.

Not that some people don't deserve torture, an animal never does.

Right on. You know what really pisses me off? People who let their animals just wander. I can't tell you how many times I have had to slam on my brakes because somebody left their dog out. I know dogs can escape, but I see the same dogs all the time. I even stopped and picked one up one night and knocked on the owner's door at an ungodly hour to return him. Were they happy? No. They said he is always allowed to roam and basically told me to fuck off. I explained that I had almost hit their dog on at least three occasions because he was wandering in the middle of a major thoroughfare. Pffft. They couldn't have cared less. Fuckers. I haven't seen that dog in a while. I am hoping they just keep him inside now.

You forgot that while you love them, you can't treat them like humans.

    It isn't fair to them.

They do not have the same needs & behaviors as a human.

Ahh, true, I tried to insinuate it, but I didn't really say it outright.
