The damn squirrel in my attic!

Rate this Entry
Okay, seriously folks, when the squirell first came to live at my house, I thought it was kinda cute. That's why I took pictures of it and put one as the background on my profile. Now, however, it's beginning to get on my nerves! I thought it would leave when summer rolled in good. (The pics were taken last spring) Well, it didn't! It has made a home in my attic. Somehow it has gained access to the attic and when you go into my kitchen you can hear it scurrying around and squeaking! I am now afraid it's going to chew thru my wiring or something and set my house on fire! Does anyone know how to get rid of pesky varmints living in your attic? I really need some help here. It's been there all summer and winter. I think maybe it has babies up there too! Help!

Try putting mothballs in your attic. No joke!

Everybody I talk to says moth balls for everything lol I've never actually heard anyone say that moth balls worked though, they smell nasty. Can you figure out where the hole is at that it's getting through? If you can just leave some corn or feed outside and when it leaves the attic seal up the hole with strong chicken wire or something. If you hear little tiny squeaking then there might be babies up there. Squirrels always build two nests, so look out in the trees and see if there's another one out there. You can also put up a nest box on a tree for it if you want it to hang around..just not in your attic. cats and hawks work good too ;D
They will chew through your wires and walls. I picked up a pregnant one from someone's closet once. It chewed through the drywall around a light socket. good luck

I hate squirrels and see nothing cute about them, but we have way too many of them around here. Moth balls may work, but not guaranteed. We have ground squirrels that live underneath our bathtub, and you’ll swear they’re right there in the tub next to you when you’re taking a piss. We found where they were getting in and filled the hole with mothballs just to find they tossed the mothballs out and went right back in.
You say you hear them in your kitchen. Is there a way for them to get in to a pantry or cabinet with food? We had a pair of squirrels in our attic & found a hole where they came down and ate through three bags of noodles. Once we removed their food source they left. Hell, we found one squirrel in our bedroom at 2 am. An hour and a half later, the entire house awake, and the makings of a Chevy Chase movie, we finally caught the son of a bitch and threw his ass outside.
They definitely are destructive little bastards. They seem to go for our phone wire the most. We have had a couple electric wires chewed through as well, and yes, that is always a worry. Good luck getting rid of the nuisance and know you’re not alone.

Eight pumps of the bb gun and a head shot usually takes care of those rats with furry tails.

It might not be squirrels. I had mice up in mine. Once you find where they're getting in that will solve your problem. I had to end up calling a pest control company. There are specialty companies that do this sort of thing too like "A Critter Getter" for wild animals.

Just be glad it's not this:
