Ideas Needed

The Household 7 will be returning home for R&R in March. I would like to plan a fun, up to a week long, vacation away from home (and the in-laws who will otherwise monopolize his time with household chores they "need" his help with). We'll be taking the little ones with us. We had already talked about going to Chicago, but he's not wild about spending 14 hours in the car with the kids (but then went on to suggest a train trip to NYC, like 10 hours on a train with them will be any better...).
I've come up with a trip to Atlanta and the zoo and aquarium there. But that's about where my creative juices stopped. So, does anyone have any thoughts? Has anyone done a train trip? Suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated!

Come to New Orleans! We have tons to do here. I can babysit one night so you and the hubs can go to the quarter and get ridiculously drunk.
I prefer the train to a plane. And it is cheaper!

Didn't know you were in NOLA Sky! I'm on the coast in MS! I think the trip to Atlanta sounds great, you may want to see if they have children's theaters, science/discovery centers.

Yeah I live about forty minutes away from NOLA. I was actually planning a trip to Missi soon. How does Biloxi look since the Katrina blew through?

The Children's Museum is great in NYC. I am sure the one in Atlanta is just as good. They have all kinds of fun stuff for small and big kids. http://www.imagineit-cma.org/home.asp
