TMS' new job in NYC - Week One's End

Rate this Entry
This has been a crazy week and I survived! Today was rather productive and they are pleased with me. I have been wondering how I would feel about all this at the end of my first week.

I was dreading having a head full of regrets but I am happy to say it is just the opposite! I will probably continue to bitch and moan about the commute but I can see myself getting used to it - if for nothing else just because I believe in this company and am excited to get there every day. I cannot believe I am not burnt out.

It is apropos that this is happening in the spring time as this is now an official start of a new life for me.

Besides my super easy old job, I have been consulting since 2003. For my side projects I started out charging way too little and putting way more hours than I care to mention on some projects that made a lot of other people money. However, I always stood firm that my name be attached to every splash screen as well as in the module properties tab (or get info for Mac) as well as on their websites.

Slowly but surely, I got a great reputation and my name got around. Well known programming houses started using me so I could charge more. The projects started getting more difficult and the snowball grew.

While the company I now work for has used one of my products from my old job since 2002, they only started using me as a consultant two years ago. Last year I made bank from them. Boss #1 and #2 and I have been working together for a lot longer than just 1 week. It was last year's project that finally tipped the scales. These are great people to work with and for.

I will be so disappointed in myself if I let them down.

You know what you’re doing and you won’t let them down. Revel in your laurels; it’s your time!

I want to say something encouraging... but I can't think of anything that isn't cliched, so I'm going to go whole hog with it...

    Go get em tiger!

(Note: I do not mean like tiger woods... no collecting whores)

EDIT: I would have posted nothing if I didn't mean it. They already know I love working there and for them. Its not like I said anything bad about them I need to make up for.

buy an out of state newspaper, or a trash-rag, to read on the train. it will give you something to do and you can now afford it! and bring snacks! you never know what could happen. you need peanuts and jerky!....maybe a payday bar.....
