TMS' new job in NYC Day 4

Rate this Entry
Caught an even earlier train home but is wasn't worth it due to the connecting Septa train's schedule. It seems like the earliest I can get home at 7:45. This makes my work day door to door almost exactly 12 hours. I can deal with this.

I have been consulting for this company for the last two years, and I have been assigned to clients who I have already met and/or done work for. Not being thrown to the wolves makes me beyond relieved.

Boss #1 and #2 did indeed have a discussion about the office but it was not in front of me. However, boss #2 let me know that he will be sleeping in the office loft a couple times a week once it is furnished. I expect as things get crazy, and they are going to, I will be sleeping in the office sometimes too.

I should probably nail down if I am salary or hourly hmmmm...

Blog note:
At the end of the week, I will go weekly, then probably monthly, then only if things are interesting.
Thank you to everybody (that includes Herr Bondaurant and Mr. Lieman) who has commented. I will try to go back through your comments this weekend and answer your questions - so if you care go back and look then....

I had to think about this a little, but TMS, through no fault of your own, your posts have PISSED ME OFF. 12 hours of workday (including travel)? That gives you how much personal time? Yeah, pretty much just the weekends, if you're not so fucking exhausted that you just lie on the couch and flip the channels.

Yes, you SHOULD nail down whether you are hourly or whatever and THEN get something in writing that you don't have to do this crazy-ass commuting every damn day.

Lizard, thank you so much for this. You are a wonderful person for expressing exactly what I was thinking as I started this insanity. There is not a single person I know IRL who wouldn't have kicked my ass if I had said "no" to taking this opportunity.
Believe me, I am shocked that I am not burnt out. I am now consulting for my old boss so I get to go in there tomorrow (but only for a couple hours). The thing is, even now I would do anything for this company. This is how strongly I believe in the road they are on and our ability to do great things.
Having an AVM at 33 meant I basically lost my 30's. Even two years ago, I wouldn't have been able to do this. The timing is eerily perfect.
With so many people hurting for work and money, I am almost ashamed at myself for having this happen. I feel guilt - but not quite - I don't know what to call it.
I hope what is happening to me is inspiring to some. I pray it doesn't make anyone feel bad if they are in a tough situation. I want all of them to know that I have been right there with them by being undervalued, underpaid, and overworked my entire adult life. Yes, I have been "let go" before.
I love what you said but the bottom line is: This job is hourly until it is salary and I am going to treat it as such and be grateful.
