today was rough..We lost the second of our three kittens. We had these guys for five weeks now and lost 2 within days of each other. The vet recommended we feed them Gerber ppl food and I cant help but feel like following his direction was a bad move.
We had the one surviving kitten eating canned on his own.The first to die was eating on her own but we supplemented with pedialite.
The one who died this morning has been in sorry shape from day one.She had been stepped on before we got them. She was malnourished from being abandoned on a blacktop lot,and the vet suspected that they were all 3 neurologically damaged due to inbreeding. She had a wandering eye and terrible balance and we spoiled her rotten.
I know she didnt have much of a chance but now with the 2 gone I worry about her brother. :((

Keep after them Man. All you can do is try. I have fed young kittens with Gerber baby food before, and it works good, so I doubt that was the problem. Put both out and let the cat decide. Most cats can't handle cows milk at all, so keep that away.

Good luck man, keep at it.

Gerber baby food is good for kittens/cats you can't get to eat any other way. Another option is canned pumpkin. However, I would recommend buying some KMR and either letting the kitten eat the liquid KMR or by mixing it with the food the kitten is eating. I also recommend Nutri-cal--it comes in a tube. You squirt a dime to nickel sized blob on your finger and put it in the kitten's mouth 2 or 3 times a day.

I'm very sorry to hear about your kitten. I know how hard it is to lose them. It sounds like these guys were not given a good chance from the get-go thanks to their heritage and previous treatment.

P.S. Keep an eye on this one's stools, as sometimes canned food alone can lead to diarrhea. If that happens, he/she can get dehydrated very quickly. Feel free to PM me if you have problems or questions.

I am very thankful that you guys are trying so hard to give these kitties a chance. Kudos to you and Ruthie...!
