It's site update time! Nothing new to report, really. I have gotten a few emails over some statements me and Imp have made, so to clarify, yes, we are working on a second site. This site has no bearings on D'D and will impact it in no way whatsoever.

Well, not entirely true. If this site performs as expected, 90 percent of all ads will be removed from D'D.

Also, the front page is going to be undergoing a massive overhaul. Currently it is bloated and the majority of what is being displayed can be removed and would drastically speed up the site. So, within the next month, the look of the site will be changed...but not too drastically. Of course, I expect a lot of bitching...but whatever.

Chat is down and will not be back. We have a chat room (http://www.dreamindemon.com/forums/chat/flashchat.php) people can use if they want. The chat box has been a resource hog on this site for over a year and it has been one of the main starting points for endless drama. Besides, our numbers show that the more active the chatbox, the deader the forums. I don't mind providing tools for everyone to communicate, and I don't mind paying to allow people to do that, but I am not MSN. If people want to sit and chat all day, there are tons of other applications (and sites) that allow that.

Don't think for a second that some of the things we do here are done lightly, or on the fly. The decision to close the Caylee thread on the front page was a month long discussion. The decision to close chat has been discussed for 6 months.

Lastly, you knew it was coming, the clique shit.

Look, this forum has been here for over 4 years. When it first started, it was for people to talk about movies, political and religious stuff all day and openly talked about trading illegal movies. It was full of both Atheist and Christians. It was a small, core group of people...some who still are here today.

When we changed the site after it became a bit more popular, and had to remove all illegal talk, we lost some of those members and heard how the old site was better.

When the site almost died and we decided to scrap the entire thing and start over, we lost more old members and heard how the old site was better.

Then, as the site became even more popular, and the members became more diverse, forcing us to lay out some loose rules, we heard how the old site was better and we were going down the tubes.

When a group of people joined the site of the case of a murdered child, and swamped the front page and the forums...forcing us to try and please both sides of the fence on a daily basis, making decisions that pleased and pissed off both camps, we heard how the old site was better and that we were going down the tubes. No...not Caylee...but rather Alijah James Mullis and the FUBAR people...a case that brought us Harley Tech, Corrupted Mistress and more...people who STILL contribute to this site after they themselves, were treated like some form of invader.

Now, as time went on from that, and we got even MORE popular, we get another case exactly like the Mullis case, X1000, that brought people in to the site and surprise, surprise...we are going down the tubes and the old site was better...again...because we are making decisions that we feel is fair.

My point being, the forum will always change according to the members who participate in it. If a group of 100 Christians come on to the site and begin USING the site, while the regulars all sit in a chat box and complain and call me and asshole...well guess what? You want the site to be like you remembered it? Then use it like you used to. A lot of people like to sit and talk about how things "used to be" and then I look at how many posts they have made recently, or how many comments they have made on the front page or how many constructive threads they have created....and then I ask "How WE used to be? What happened to YOU?"

Sorry some of you feel slighted that we have decided to make certain changes on here. None of it is personal. Every decision we make is what we think is the best path for THE SITE. The "us vs. them" mentality in regards to all this Caylee crap is so ridiculous that I must admit, I do find a bit of amusement in it all. But these "Caylee People" as you call them, have come on to the site...even when being bashed. They came to the forums after we closed down their thread on the front page. They have used the tools provided to them even when they had NO CLUE how to operate this forum. They have created a prayer request thread and angel pictures on a site called dreamindemon with a forum named Din of Sin...complete with a demon in the header...created by an Agnostic...and I am supposed to do what to them exactly? Tell them to leave?

Hell, they display more of the "spirit" of this site than the people who pack up their toys and go home. They are as much a part of this site as any of you, and a year from now I am sure we will be hearing from them, when a different group of people move into the forum, how the old site was better and we are going down the tubes.

So if any of you "old timers" are planning to leave because of any of the recent developments, nice knowin' ya', I think. For those of you who are sticking around and want to continue to make this oddball site even better than it was yesterday, well...carry on.

Anyone have any serious questions you would like answered in regards to any of this? Ask now, as I wont be addressing any of it again after today.

I am learning this site and loving it more and more as I learn more and more about it. I love the people on the site and try to be adaptive. I like the flash chat... it reminds me of the old IRC chat I used to use via MIRC.

I probably don't know how to use this site to the fullest but i'm learning day by day and getting more comfortable with it. I was not a big fan of the cover chat seemed to be disjointed and never really made sense to me.

I came because I was led here by the Caylee thread but I've been someone who reads Patricia Cornwell and have gotten heavily into reading Ann Rule. I LOVE this site and plan to adapt it.

When I was on my cruise I skimmed this site quickly when I got some time onshore on the net. I let my older haunts go and am enamered by this site as well as the great people I have met here.

I wish there were a simplier explanation of the features??? Or perhaps I don't know where to find it which is also a possibility.

I LOVE this site. Glad it is more diverse than Caylee but I want to still follow that case and the people I've gotten to know who are also interested.

Well, if all goes right, the second site will be the one making revenue, and this one will just have the upgrade (Elite\Bold) in place, but all ads will be removed. So for those of you who think that any of this has anything to do with money, you are sadly mistaken. The only time we made any money at all, barring donations, was the two months we made 150 dollars each month. That was Adbrite's doing. As soon as we made it to where we didn't have pop-ups...that went to 6 dollars. :)

So, no. While we would like to make some dough off the site, it just isn't gonna happen right now. The OTHER site is WAY more family friendly and that equals advertisers. It's close to being open. In fact, we will be sending out a few messages to select people to help us start testing it within the next week or so.

The main reason I'm glad the box is gone (the whole sex complaint was mostly true but more of a joke, you guys overrreacted just a bit to it. Remember your reaction says a lot more about you than me!) is that I got very tired and disheartened to see all the negative talk about other members on DD. Cliques and meaness like that, yea it pisses me off.

I was merely pointing out that the notion that what happened in the chatbox was "almost always" sexual in nature is inaccurate. A lot of people would spend the first few minutes of their day saying good morning, and as lunchtime approached, there was invariably discussion of what was on the menu for the day, for example. I'm sorry you didn't get to participate in those. Things like that will be missed.
