GLASGOW, Del. - November 10, 2008 - (WPVI) -- Paramedics were called to home in Glasgow, Delaware after a man dies of a cardiac arrest, only to find dozens of animals living in unsanitary conditions.
The call came in at 9:09 a.m. The paramedics responded to a home in the 100 block of Cognac Drive for a report of a medical emergency.
When emergency personnel arrived, they immediately encountered the fetid scent of urine and feces as they entered the home. Inside the residence, police located the victim surrounded by several dogs.
According to the officials on scene, the home was in a deplorable condition as police and paramedics were forced to walk on flooring that was covered in animal waste.
Due to the condition of the animals, officers contacted the SPCA who dispatched officers to the home, who collected most of the animals, including 30-40 dogs, two birds, one cat and one rabbit.
