9-Year-Old Molested By Man He Met At Store

Monday, November 10, 2008 – updated: 5:41 pm EST November 10, 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 9-year-old boy was molested after meeting a man at the Family Dollar store along Pine Hills Road in Orlando (see map) on Saturday and investigators released photos of the suspect on Monday.

Investigators said the 9-year-old was approached at the Family Dollar early Saturday afternoon and bought the victim the items he was shopping for and then offered him a ride home. Investigators said the suspect offered the boy money to commit lewd acts and then touched the victim in a lewd manner.

Investigators said the suspect then dropped the boy off at a bus stop. The boy was traumatized, but unhurt and was able to immediately contact his parents about what happened.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly Hispanic, between 50 and 55 years old, approximately 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8, 180 pounds with dark hair and a slight beard and mustache. The suspect was driving a white vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus.

Why was the 9-year old alone at a store. Didn't his parents tell him never to go off with STRANGERS. I told my kids over and over and over and over never ever go up to strangers, take anything from them, leave with them etc.

My kids were never allowed to get in a car with ANYONE - even if they knew them, unless I gave permission. (most offenses happen by people kids know)

A neighbor guy called me to apologize once because he offered the girls a ride home from the park and they refused. He thought he better tell me because he didn't want to be misunderstood.

You would think if the mom gave a damn and felt her kid was "capable", she would have taught him better. Obviously, she didn't care in any which way.

You know, my kids didn't go to the store by themselves when they were 9. I just started letting them walk to the store I can see from my driveway, and they can't go by themselves, ever. My son is almost 13, my daughter is 14, and I just don't understand the way some "parents" think. Maybe I am just overprotective, but I love my kids and I want them to be safe.

I feel badly for this child. He should have been protected better. The asshole who touched him deserves to rot in hell.

I agree, why was this kid shopping alone? thank god he was only molested and not murdered. feels weird saying 'thank god he was only molested' but things could have ended up way worse and Im thankful he wasnt killed or kidnapped to be this assholes sex toy.

the parents should be charged with neglect or something.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Orange County Investigators said Martin Hernandez, 49, confessed to molesting a 9-year-old boy inside his car. Detectives said Hernandez met the victim inside a Family Dollar store on Pine Hills Road, where the boy was shopping for supplies for his new kitten. The suspect befriended the boy by buying him things and offering him a ride home.

"[He] picked up the kid, fondled him in the car. He said he had issues in the past and that's why he did it,” said Sgt. Richard Mankewich of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Hernandez went on to drop the boy off at his bus stop. As soon as the boy saw his parents, he told them what happened.

Deputies released surveillance pictures of the suspect, but it was a car wash that led to his arrest. The boy told investigators the suspect went to a car wash on Silver Star Road, which had 16 surveillance cameras. Deputies were able to find the car on the tapes and track down Hernandez.

Hernandez was booked into the Orange County jail Tuesday night.

Okay so he is blaming what he did NOW on his PAST. FUCKER

Thank God this boy is o.k. I do not know how far the store is from his house, but an adult or MUCH older sibling should have gone with him. My kids were told WAY before the age of 9 not to let ANYONE buy them things and not to get into anyones car.
I am so glad that they caught the perv. Now, may a judge with some balls slam this sick fuck instead of letting him off with probation or something light.
Better yet.....kill him....he'll just get worse
