A man passed out in the parking lot of a Tom Thumb with the car still in gear attracted the attention of a passerby, who called the police.
The Crestview Police Department officer who responded found the car at a 45-degree angle occupying two parking spaces. The brake lights were on, the officer noted in the arrest report. The driver was slumped toward the steering wheel, with his body held upright by the seatbelt.
When the officer identified himself, the man sat up and took his foot off the brake, which caused the car to lurch forward before he put it in park. The driver admitted to drinking "four cans of Bud" several hours earlier. The officer noticed a partial six-pack of Heineken in the car.
When the officer asked him to do the Field Sobriety Exercises, the man said, "I could probably use a ride home." He was unable to complete the exercises, the report noted. He was arrested for driving under the influence and placed in the patrol car.
On the ride to the police station, the officer observed another driver who appeared to be impaired and followed that vehicle until back-up arrived.
"He's as drunk as I am," the arrested man told the officer.
