Kayla McClure, 24, was arrested Thursday in a late October incident that left the boy with two black eyes and severe bruises on his face.
A day earlier, the father of the boy, John C. Nelson, 25, was accused by police of abusing the child. Nelson told police the boy would not stop crying, even after he changed his diaper and gave him a bottle, according to Hamilton County court records. Nelson also said he threw the baby into the coffee table and then slapped him in the face.
Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Heather Russell set bond for Nelson at $100,000 and ordered him to stay away from his child and all other children pending the outcome of his case.
McClure was later charged because she admitted she saw the boy's black eyes and bruises but did not immediately take him to the hospital, police said. Nelson had told her the child fell from the couch, hit the table and hurt himself.
The boy eventually was treated at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, but only after McClure waited several days. She also admitted to police that she delayed taking the child to daycare because she was afraid the provider would call authorities.
Bond was set at $100,000 for both parents.
