Ismael Bugarin kills wife and son, injures daughters

DODGE CENTER -- As 12-year-old Nicholas Bugarin died from stab wounds to his throat on the floor of a neighbor's mobile home, his friend Mark Catalan was at his side.

Catalan, 13, was at the mobile home of mutual friends when he said his best friend, Nicholas, ran in with his two younger sisters. All three had been stabbed, though Nicholas' injuries were the most severe.

Dodge County authorities are investigating Nicholas' death as well as his mother's, Teresa Bugarin, 27, who was found shot to death in the family's mobile home, next door to the one where the children had run to for help.

The deaths happened about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, according to Sheriff Gary Thompson. He said the sheriff's department received a 911 call from the Valley View Mobile Home Park saying a boy had been stabbed. When officers arrived, they found 12-year-old Ismael Nicholas Bugarin and his two sisters, Jasmine, 8, and Sabrina, 5. The girls had stab wounds and were taken to Saint Marys Hospital by ambulance.

Thompson said deputies found the children's mother dead at her home. The father, 33-year-old Ismael Bugarin, was also hurt. Thompson described him as "a person of interest" in the investigation of who killed the mother and son. He was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital for his injuries.

When the children burst in on Saturday night, Nick's sisters, 8-year-old Jasmine and 6-year-old Sabrina, clung to Castellanos. One had a slash on her cheek, the other a cut under her chin.

When Castellanos asked them what had happened, the girls cried, "My dad! My dad!"

"Why?" Castellanos asked.

"I don't know! I don't know!" Castellanos said they answered.

Sheriff Gary Thompson said his department recovered weapons from the home and interviewed Jasmine and Sabrina. He said Ismael Bugarin remains a person of interest in the stabbings, but investigators have been unable to talk with him because he remains in serious condition.

His daughters were listed in good condition Monday night at St. Mary's Hospital.

Police records show Ismael Bugarin has a history of domestic abuse arrests dating back to the late 1990s. None of those arrests happened in Dodge County. Police are hoping to talk with him before they speculate on a motive for the stabbings.

Dodge County Sheriff Gary Thompson calls 12 year old "Nick" A HERO and says he saved the lives of his two sisters.When his father Ismael Bugarin went on a murderous rampage, Nick intervened, giving his 2 younger sisters a chance to escape.

This is pretty much what I could figure out happened :

The family had returned from an outing to their home about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The couple started quarreling and Teresa Bugarin tells her husband Ismael Bugarin, she is tired of his abuseive shit, wants a divorce and was going to take the children and leave.

Ismael Bugarin ( the father ) didnt take it to well, gets upset, grabs a knife and starts stabbing her, " she had defensive knife wounds to her hands and arms, a deep stab wound to her chest and six injuries to her neck". After Ismael stops stabbing her he goes, gets a gun and begins shooting her. "The bullet grazed her wrist, penetrated her neck and partially severed her spinal column."

When the children heard thier mother screaming for help, they ran to the back of the home, where they saw their father pinning their mother on the ground and shooting her with a gun.

The children turn to flee, but Ismael Bugarin ( the father ) chased them with knife in hand. He slashed one daughter's left face and neck area. He stabbed his son, (also named Ismael Bugarin but known as " Nick "), in the neck. Then he stabbed his other daughter under the chin, repeatedly saying, "I'm sorry," .

When Ismael ( the father) was finished stabbing Nick and starting on the last daughter, Nicholas desides to try and stop his father from killing them all, he is to late to stop him stabbing the last sister but he does wrestle the knife away from his father and stabs him twice in the back. (This was after he had been mortally wounded in the neck by the knife.) Nick and his sisters were then able to get away from Ismael Bugarin ( the father ) and run to a neighbor's house for help.

All three though bleeding and wounded make it to safety, at Nicks best friends "Carlos Castellanos" house next door, Nick is mortally wounded,could barely stand, colapses into Carlos's (the father) arms and the bloody knife falls to the floor.
The 2 girls are screaming 'My dad! My dad!'. Nick could barley talk and was having trouble breathing. He says that he is cold and very tired , then he went limp and died.

While that was happening back at the trailer Ismael ( the father ) is not doing so well himself. Nick took the knife away and the children are safe. He gets another knife and decides to take his own life by slashing both wrists.

The police show up and the 2 girls are taken by ambulance to the hospital. Ismael ( the father ) is airlifted by helicopter to St. Marys and remains in serious condition, under police guard. ( looks like he is going to pull through.)

The girls are doing fine and are now living with Elizabeth (Teresa Burgarin's older sister) and Flavio Olmosher in a loveing caring home. The couple are going to adopt the girls.

R.I.P. Little Nick, you died a hero, saving your 2 little sisters.You will be dearly missed by many.

R.I.P. Teresa, You were a very loving, careing woman.

Note 1:Teresa worked as a Spanish translator at the county courthouse and also styled hair out of her home.

This is absolutely horrifying! Those dear girls and neighbor child will never, ever get over this. What a very brave mother and brother. Lord, I can't even imagine how terrible, the reality of knowing your father is killing your mother and then realizing his goal is to kill the entire family including you.

I have no doubt that the mother, once she realized she was being killed probably tried to keep the focus on her so that her children might get the chance to flee and survive...

Rest in peace Teresa and Nick, I pray for your souls and that you have found one another.
