Damn, its still way too long till this gets released but im absolutley loving the trailer, im allmost as hyped for this as for Batman II.
I had my doubts over Fevreau directing it but after watching that trailer all my doubts are gone, it looks amazing.
The casting of Downey was a great choise, he captured Stark's charming asshole persona to a T and he can always play a great adict(no shit why) so he will nail Starks alcoholism im sure. Im not wild about Gwynet Paltrow in general and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury..
Nick Fury is drawn in the likness of Sam Jackson in those lame "Ultimate" comics but hes been a white fella for the most part since his creation and thats how most of us identify him. Migth sound racist but I would have the exact same problem if they had made Storm a white woman in the X Men movies.

As with all comic book movies, I am trying not to get too excited about this film. But let me say, it has one of the best trailers around.

Well, I am not a comic book guy, so they could have picked any of them. Besides, Superman, Hulk, Batman (except for the last one) and most of the Spiderman films all sucked ass.

I'm not a comic book guy either but I Loved Batman Begins, Spider-Man 2 and X-2!
I think Iron Man will do about the same as Dare Devil at the Box Office.
The trailer looks pretty good, though! I'm sure my son will want to see it

He was one of my favorite characters. I LOVED the "normal dude" comics. Like The Punisher, Batman and Iron Man. The more "super" the character, the less interested I was. I never got into Superman for that reason.
If the movie is just a longer version of the trailer, this will be the best comic-movie of all time. Very gritty, realistic feel to it. The dialog is so natural, like right before the ambush. And the awkward genius of Stark, something that a TON of comic-writers couldn't even get right, looks completely nailed in the trailer.
I'm stoked for this. It will get me back in the theater for the first time in forever.

Im with Swiv, I loved the character way back when, hes such a flawed real man ridled with problems and making desicions I generally dont agree with but thats what makes him interesting.
I havent read a comic in a while but Im thinking of picking up the somewhat recent civil war saga where he seems like a real twat.

I totally agree. I'm a big Iron Man fan because I think Tony Stark is a much more interesting character than most Super Heroes, who aren't really flawed like Stark is.

Looks to be another kick ass comic adaptation... hopefully they won't edit all the good parts down (ala The Punisher). What can I say... I'm excited!

I concur wholeheartedly. This role, and the way it looks to be written, was tailor made for Downey Jr. I am really excited to see this. Between Iron Man and that new Indiana Jones flick (did you see that trailer? wow) I am actually looking forward to some popcorn movies other than Spider-man (huge fan from childhood).

BTW, this trailer is featured before 10,000 BC. Looks really awesome on the big screen - many of the problems I have with computer-generated special effects scenes (you know, the cheesy fake look they sometimes have, like in Reign of Fire for a good strong example) are refreshingly missing. At least so far as the trailer's concerned.
We'll have to see how the rest of the movie holds up.

ComingSoon.net reports that Andrew Cripps, President of Paramount Pictures International, announced at ShoWest's International Day on Monday that Iron Man will be released Day-and-Date worldwide on April 30. What is unclear is whether that means North America will also get the movie two days earlier than the planned May 2 release. One thing to support that we will, is that Paramount is planning another Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull trailer for April, presumably with another Paramount movie, of which the biggest one would be Iron Man (if it indeed opens here on April 30.)
We're getting sooo close to watching this one! I honestly don't even care about Indiana Jones at the moment, I'm way more hyped for Iron Man and The Dark Knight!

Best Marvel film so far by a long shot, just a notch from being as good as Batman Begins id say.
As much as I like other previous Marvel movies there is always a thing or two that irks me, a joke thats too retarded and over extended or an artistic liberty taking away from the comic that I do not enjoy.. Well, not with this one, its prety much perfect...
The artistic liberties add to the movie..
There isnt a single terrible joke(there is merly a single mediocre not really bad pun I can think of)..
It has a well constructed story with a lot of character exposition yet it doesnt get boring at any moment...
All the actors are great(Including Gwyneth Paltrow who I was bitching about eariler)...
Fuck it, even the product placement was brilliantly done not over exposing at all like other films, If I didnt knew this brands had PP I wouldnt had even tougth about it...
heck, I think im gona go see it again later today.

Iguess I migth as well put the rest of my responce in spoilers too...
I like a lot of peeps hated the idea of Ultimates Nick Fury, I like my Colonel Fury a cigar toting WWII vet keept young by the infinity serum that has been a staple of the comics since forever not Motherfuckin Sam Jackson from the shity comic series that will be cancelled in a few years...
Hopefully the pulling that scene out was a responce to how vocal some fans were about that and they will re consider the re casting that part for future movies. So far the Avengers movie seems very much in plans it seems, aparently it will be much more so aparent in Hulk, if rumors are true it will be cameorific!

Apparently that much ballyhooed Nick Fury (as played by, of course, Samuel L. Jackson) cameo in the upcoming “Iron Man” was missing from advancing screenings Paramount held for critics, because I’ve read on a number of sites that have reviewed the film that Nick Fury does not have a cameo. Not true, says Australian moviegoers, who confirms that Nick Fury does do a brief cameo at the end of the film, in which one viewer described as “40 seconds or so with Stark and Nick Fury”.
Moviehole, an Aussie movie site, has more from his fellow Down Underoos:
Another writer tells us :
“At the end of the credits, Stark comes home and finds Nick Fury in his living room -staring towards the window. He then turns to tell Stark he’s the not the only superhero in the world. Stark asks who he is, and Fury turns and says he’s “Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D, and I’m here to talk to you about The Avengers Initiative”.
This is directly from beyondhollywood.com. What kind of showings did you guys go to? Were they any kind of press screenings?

Just so you guys know I've been killing time this afternoon (I didn't have to work) ripping video to my computer, I've decided to make a (fake) Marvel Civil War trailer. Here are the movies I've ripped from so far (let me know if I'm missing anything important)
Spiderman
Spiderman 2
The Punisher
Daredevil
X-Men
X-Men 2
X-Men 3
Fantastic Four
I'm going to use parts of the Iron Man trailer(s) and unfortunately the Captain America stuff is going to have to come from the 1990 film (at least the suit doesn't looked... alright). I can't remember (since I never technically finished reading the line) was The Hulk involved with the Civil War? Anyone else (that I could realistically get footage of) that I'm missing.

What a cool video project Kyle, good luck with it..
The Hulk had been tricked into space on the planet hulk saga at the time.

Too early to speak of Iron man II? FUCK NO!
Entertainment Tonight attended the Iron Man premiere and got a chance to speak to Viacom and CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey who said that if the movie does as well as expected, the studio will be looking to release the sequel in 2010.
What's interesting is that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has already "claimed" the first weekend of the summer that year (May 7, 2010), but if you look at the calendar, Iron Man 2 could easily open on April 30, which is a Friday, essentially giving it almost a similar release date as the first film.
IESB, always on the ball, was at the premiere of Iron Man in Los Angeles yesterday (damn living in America!). They managed to track down Brad Bose, who was Robert Downey Jr.’s trainer for the film. And apparently, Bose said that he starts training with Downey again real soon.
Apparently Downey has taken a break from training while he went to work on Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder, but Bose says they’ll be starting in again soon, so that they can have him ready for a deadline in 5 months.
That would suggest a production date early in 09, and a release possible a year later. Now we just gotta see if the first one is any good (I’m going in 12 hours… but maybe one of my colleagues will beat me to it!).

I'm heading out to the film guys! I've literally been waiting for this one all day today. I've got my digital camera, I can take up to 25 minutes of video. I'm going to try to snag that scene at the end of the film. But I can't guarantee anything. I'll be back later tonight with a full review... and hopefully a DD exclusive video :D

Thanks. I'm pissed that my camera didn't fucking zoom in (you can clearly see and hear me fucking with it at the beginning). I was the only person in the theater, so I just walked to the back and stood up, had I known the zoom function didn't work while in video mode... I'd have simply walked to the front of the theater.
I'm going to go so far as to say Iron Man is right on par with the original Spiderman and X-Men. I think its unfair to compare it to what I consider to be the king of comic films, Spiderman 2. Iron Man had to do all the setup as to who Tony Stark was, what hes like, the back-story behind everything. Spiderman 2 was allowed to just jump right in and be the best fucking movie of all time.
Anyhow, I've trailed off on another subject. Iron Man was great. They did a really good job of explaining who exactly Tony Stark is in a way that works for both fans of the comic, and people who've never read a page in their life.
I've always got the feeling that the Fantastic Four movies basically assumed everyone was an idiot and therefor had to hold you by the hand and walk you through step by step with each character. Thankfully Iron Man just picks up and goes. It doesn't spend four hours on unnecessary character development, it was wrote in a way that (everyone) can pick up on whose who within the first 15 minutes of the film.
Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. There is no other actor who could have pulled it off the way he did. Five Star performance on his part!
Visually the movie is stunning. Iron Man looks exactly like Iron Man. There is no bullshitting around in that department. And he looks believable on top of everything else. You really get a sense Tony Stark really did create this flight suit.
Another thing that Iron Man did really well was manage to keep the same pace throughout the film. Using Transformers as a comparison, you could really tell that whoever wrote that film tried very hard to go "ok this is our big action scene" and then follow it with "ok now this is our comedy scene" then follow that with "a romantic scene". Iron Man, on the other hand, did feel broke down into action scene, romantic scene, comedy scene. Because of the nature of the character (Tony Stark being a smartass) it allowed for a film that really was all three things (action, comedy, romance) without blatantly shoving it in your face and going YOUR SUPPOSED TO BE LAUGHING AT THIS SCENE, JACKASS!
About my only gripe with the film is the fact that they kind of maybe spent a little too long with Tony building the suit. You almost come to a point where you just want him to finish the damn thing. But really that is such a minor, minor thing it wouldn't even begin to take away points from the film... hell, not even half points!
Overall I give Iron Man a solid five out of five. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should go to this film and leave disappointed.
Now we can start waiting for either Iron Man 2... or an Avengers film (What do we want? AVENGERS! When do we want it.... quickly-but-not so-quickly-that-it-feels-rushed-so-how-about-late-2009-or-summer-2010?!)

Robert Downey Jr. Is back in a big way and I couldn't see anyone else play Tony Stark. Can't wait to see what they do next!
My only gripe with the film is the fact that you have to sit through 30 minutes of credits to see the last shot with S L Jackson!

Wile I do like BB more Ill admit it has a lot to do with how much I favor Batman over Ironman as a character but thinking about it Ironman is a far bether all around movie...
One has Batman being a for the fans mostly film that can feel quite tedious and long for many casual movie goers, wile Ironman works perfectly both for us comicbook geeks as well as the people that havent the slightest idea who Ironman is. Its the type of movie guys force on their girlfriends only for them to end up enjoying it just as much.

I think BB gets a lot of its strength because we feel that it rescued the franchise from some shitty movies that came before it. If it was the only Batman movie ever made, I wouldn't love it so much. The Gotham scenes were a bit cheesy, especially with the big tower with all the trains running through it, and the scenes with the gas released in Gotham still feel weird every time I see them. The movie started great, with grit and realism and flair... and then it started creeping into the zany bullshit that the Batman movies became infamous for.
What was great about Iron Man is that the dialog was 100% believable. There wasn't a single cheese-ball line in the entire film. And the touching moments really were touching, not corny. But what really nailed it for me was the realism. When he was holding the Mk2 helmet, doing a re-design, there were wax pencil marks all over the thing. Engineering calipers were lying around, the Mk1 didn't have bullets or any of the shit that the badguys would never have given them, and they didn't have the terrorists re-create their own MK from scraps. The movie was dripping with realism, and had enough nods to us comic geeks (like when Rhodes gave the alternate suit a nod and said, "Maybe next time").
Also, I've never laughed so hard at an action flick. The comedic timing was just genius. Especially the fire-robot scenes, the phonecall from Rhodes to Tony, and all of the Potts scenes.

Going in I wasn't expecting anything weighty. What I was expecting was to have an unabashed blast at the theater. What I got is one of, if not the most blase comic book film I've ever seen.
The beginning is pretty cool. I like the idea of Stark building a death machine to use against his captors right under their noses. But once he got back to civilization the film just seemed to go in full bore mode. I understand and appreciate how much time was spent on him creating his suit considering that's such a huge part of the character but after seeing so many comic book films it felt a bit contrived much like the film as a whole. I could almost count the seconds when Iron Man was going to show up and save that kid and his father. And that scene when he goes back to take out the terrorists is probably the best action scene in the film (which are few and far between) but even it was only good in incriments. (when he took out the 5 guys at once was pretty cool) The rest was just, eh.
Really, all of the action scenes were pretty boring. Especially the final fight with Bridges. (whose an extremely unmemorable villain in this) It was over quick and it lacked brutal intensity. And what did Paltrow do again to kill him off? Did she detonate a microwave that had a flux capacitor or some shit? I forget...
To sum up Iron Man in one word: blase.
5.5/10 (the cg work was great though)

Box office results
Estimated ticket sales for May 2-4
1. “Iron Man,” $100.7 million.
2. “Made of Honor,” $15.5 million.
3. “Baby Mama,” $10.3 million.
4. “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” $6.1 million.
5. “Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay,” $6 million.
6. “The Forbidden Kingdom,” $4.2 million.
7. “Nim’s Island,” $2.8 million.

10. “88 Minutes,” $1.6 million.
LOS ANGELES - “Iron Man” was pure gold at the box office.
The Marvel Comics adaptation, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the guy in the metal suit, hauled in $100.7 million during its opening weekend and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, the second-best premiere ever for a nonsequel, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The film also scored overseas with $96.7 million in 57 countries where it began opening Wednesday, putting its worldwide total at $201 million.
The movie, distributed by Paramount, is the first release by Marvel Studios, which has begun financing its own productions after such studio-backed hits as the “Spider-Man,” “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” flicks.
“We could not have hoped for a better way for Marvel Studios to blast off,” said David Maisel, chairman of the unit, a division of Marvel Entertainment, which stands to pull in a greater share of box office receipts and merchandising money by financing movies itself.
Debuting in second place with $15.5 million was Sony’s romantic comedy “Made of Honor,” starring “Grey’s Anatomy” heartthrob Patrick Dempsey as a man who tries to woo his best pal after she asks him to be “maid of honor” at her wedding.
“Iron Man,” which won rave reviews from many critics, features Downey as billionaire arms designer Tony Stark, a boozy womanizer who builds a high-tech suit and becomes a superhero, mending his ways after he’s taken captive and sees firsthand the devastation his weapons cause.
The film is directed by Jon Favreau, and also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and Terrence Howard.
Despite the huge “Iron Man” opening, Hollywood’s overall business was down compared to the same weekend last year, when “Spider-Man 3” had a record debut of $151.1 million. The top 12 movies took in $154.1 million, off 15 percent from a year ago.
“Nonetheless, ‘Iron Man’ did better than expected,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers. “This is certainly the shot in the arm the marketplace has needed.”
Movie attendance this year is running 6 percent behind that of 2007, so the arrival of “Iron Man” may jump start the box office as the busy summer season begins.
“If that first May movie is a big hit, it tends to lead to a big summer,” said Rob Moore, Paramount vice chairman. “There hadn’t been a big event movie yet this year. So you have the first event movie of summer, and people go ‘And I hear it’s really good. All right, I’m in.”’
“Iron Man” was the 10th biggest opening of all time and the fourth biggest for a superhero movie. Among nonsequels, it came in behind only the first “Spider-Man,” which premiered with $114.8 million.
“If we have to, we’re happy to come in second to another Marvel property,” Maisel said. “It emphasizes how lucky we are to have such a powerful brand that’s not loved by just comic book fans but also general movie fans.”

While I wouldn't rate it as low as Sea Hag, I do feel it was not better than the last Batman flick, and this is from someone who doesn't even like Batman...or comic book heroes in general.
My main issues with the film were the fact that they built up this final battle between Stark abd Bridges character, only to have Iron Man get his ass kicked (badly) and end up having his personal assistant kill the guy. Which I wouldn't even have minded if it had not been in such an anti-climatic way. In fact...exactly what did kill the guy? The blast of whatever it was, or the fall?
I also did not like the fact that these terrorists, ASSISTED by Obediah himself, allowed the world's greatest (and possibly smartest) weapons making genius, to work in a closed room with not ONE armed guard. They could have explained this in one line or scene, but they didn't.
Other than that, I enjoyed it even though the action scenes were short and not extremely memorable (except for the breakout at the beginning).
Oh, and this is just me picking nits, but I really hate when movies have robots in them, act human in the capacity Stark's robots did, even to the point of having one save him by knowing what Stark was trying to reach for....and speaking of the technology...Stark had robots that understood human voice, emotion and direction, 3D holograph images that were 100 percent interactive, mini reactors of some type that power his house (and the suits), etc, etc...but he couldn't remove the remaining shrapnel?
But anyway, I liked the film. Downey was great, and I actually liked Bridges. Paltrow, who I am not a fan of, was fine as well. I wanted to kill people after waiting for 5 hours until the credits ended to see a 20 second clip that meant nothing to me. :)
7 or 8 out of 10. Does not come close to the last Batman flick and I liked Spiderman 2 AND X2 better...even though to be fair, I have not seen those two films in a while.
My kid liked it, although he did not like the conversation between Bridges and Downy in the final battle. He thought it was cheesy. :)

And I don't want to single out Swivel because truth be told I like the guy alot and think we'd get along like gangbusters. (same applies to pretty much everyone on this board) But his dripping with realism comment is perplexing to the max.
The last thing I thought about when Stark plummeted a couple 1000ft in his protype suit after escaping his captors was how realistic it was. The suit was shown to be obliterated on impact yet Stark was no worse for wear. There are so many instances that make this film anything but realistic but since I'm tired I don't feel like listing all of'em.
I will say this. Bruce Wayne & Alfred ordering a 100,000+ mini-headset recorders on the accounts of multiple dummy corporations for the sole purpose of distracting corporate types is probably the most realistic thing ever in comic book films. But yeah, Iron Man isn't realistic in the slightest.

You make excellent points my man. I still think it was a kick ass film, but you make valid points. I think, not to speak for anyone, that a good film can take a scene that is down right impossible (Tony Stark building a flying suit that launches him thousands of feet into the air and crashes only to leave unharmed) and present it in a believable way. Iron Man did a really good job of taking a bunch of shit couldn't happen and make it seem like it could.
In the same respect yes, Batman Begins was a fairly realistic film but ultimately its the story of some rich kid who dresses as a bat and fights crime because he seen his parents murdered. Taken out of context that's the stupidest thing you could ever imagine, but its presented in a way that it makes since and seems realistic.
Iron Man did the same thing, in my opinion. Took a stupid impossible story/character and make it seem real. And as for the guards leaving him unattended for months at a time while hes supposed to be building a bomb... that all boils down to movie convenience. You'd be hard pressed to find any film that doesn't have a scene or two that relies on movie convenience.

But that rich kid is shown living like a surf in the darkest regions of the planet. (by choice) And I'll tell you what, I think the scene where he takes on 7 dudes in some god forsaken asian prison is a more exciting action sequence than anything Iron Man has to offer. It had intensity, something Iron Man lacked throughout its entire runtime.

Of course Ironman was having his ass handed to him, he was functioning on the shity ARC reactor he built in the cave. Underdogs make bether heroes, thats among other things why Ang Lee's Hulk was shitish, you never feel a threat for Hulk when converted, even when figthing that crap monster his dad turned into 30 minutes too late in the film.
If you think about it wasnt really Pepper Potts who defeated him, it was Tony througth inteligence, Pepper and The AR were just the tools. He was being overpowered and both times overcame by inteligence(taking him so up Obedhia would freeze, Having PP blow up the AR).
An ARC reactor, a fictional device that suplies all the energy for an entire weapons development plant as well as its ofices exploded on Obediah creating a blast you could have seen miles and miles away, Im prety sure thats what killed him.

But the Hulk works better as a monster, not a hero. (which is one of the many reasons i'm wary of the new film)
And people can say what they will but some of the most epic and brutal action sequences in comic book film history are when the Hulk fights those dogs and takes on the army in the desert. Epic.

The army in the desert thing wile feeling periless was quite esthetically pleasing so ill give you that one as epic but the dog figth scene was lame as fuck...
The dogs were subjected to the same things by daddy Nolte so are suposed to be proportionaly strong to the Hulk yet you dont feel the threat you would feel from a pack of atack dogs(even if one is a Poodle for mediocre humor purposes) atacking a regular man at all, he is ridiculously stronger than them, he just grabs em and tosses em willy nilly, they should at least portrayed em as a bigger threat to Betty....

I'm all for movie convenience. This particular incident was movie laziness. They could have replaced any of the two scenes in which the terrorists were watching the camera, or looking through the door peephole, with a scene explaining why there would be no guard (not enough manpower and besides, they had a babysitter in there already...even stark making a comment of not being able to work at gunpoint) as well as explain why they let him have all that shit at his disposal (missiles for gods sake) but there was no fear of him using any of against them. Simple.
But yeah, the falling into the sand unharmed in the suit was not shot to be believable. It was just shot and presented. Again, I have no issues with it, as I am already excepting the fact that one of the most un-aerodynamic thing on the planet, aside from an oak tree, can fly. It's just a few of the scenes that ratcheted the movie below Batman Begins for me.

Iron Man originally appeared in 1963. In the comic he was working on weapons his company developed when he stepped on a land mine and was captured by Asian communists. (Vietnamese/Chinese). A piece of shrapnel from the mine lodged near his heart and with the help of his fellow prisoner, Ho Yinsen, a physicist whose work Stark had greatly admired during college, he created the breast plate of the Iron Man armor. Ordered to develop a weapons system for them he created to original gray Iron Man armor, which he used to escape. The second version of the armor, all gold, was worn for 8 issues of “Tales of Suspense” and a number of issues of “The Avengers” before the red and gold version appeared.

Like most comic book super hero movies Iron Man deviates from the comics. This movie is no exception as it modernizes his origin using terrorists instead of communist as well as a number of other divergences from the comics. But for the most part it remains true to his comic book origin unlike a lot of other hero movies. I left this movie without the “what did they do to _____, that’s not how it happened” disappointment I felt after a number of other hero movies. I think this movie is an excellent tribute to the character, the creators and the fans alike. This is by far the best comic book hero movie to date.
As far as the believability issue goes get real people. This is a comic book movie. None of them are believable and they’re not supposed to be. From the ricocheting bullets that don’t hit bystanders to the bumpers that support cars to the impacts and explosions the heroes walk away from it’s an accepted part of the genre.

Exactly. When I applaud the realism of this movie, it is because it is leaps and bounds above any other comic movie ever made (ignoring the "Road to Perdition" and "V for Vendetta" and "Sin City" style movies).
We have neuvo critics in here wondering how a superhero survived a fall, which is like wondering how our protagonist keeps punching people without breaking their fists. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who couldn't extract himself from the nuts of the "Transformers", an all-around shitty film.
What tickled me about talking to Morbid after he got home from the film is that his biggest complaint was Potts taking down Obadiah. The good guy is supposed to beat the bad guy, was his point. Then he tells me that Batman Begins is still his favorite Comicbook movie. You know, the movie were Gordon gets in the Batmobile and takes out the support structures, so all Batman has to do is get out of the way and let someone else have the coup de grace?
No wonder film snobs smell like crap... they talk out of their asses all the damn time!

Being human, falling a couple 1000 ft, his protype suit obliterated on impact and he walks away no worse for wear is really pushing it though. Still, 10/10 I can look passed such things if the overall film is good. That little snippet is just one thing that stuck out among the 2+ hours of medicority.

The look on Holmes' face when he takes off to save an entire city is the only good piece of acting she did in the entire film. And considering the situation and the most choice score of all comic book flicks blasting in the background shit's epic. If Favreau directed it Bats would probably take off to AC/DC's Hells Bells blasting in the background.

Oh lord. Once again. Swivel has to pick apart a phone conversation. I would say I am shocked, but I'm not. Same old, same old.
I wouldn't even care too much if it weren't for the fact that you either were not listening, or purposely choose to mis-represent what I was saying. I could do the same with you. On how you felt scared when the big, scary, growling Obediah suit was in the dark (already done Robocop 1 AND 2, btw) or that you were on the edge of your seat when his suit iced up for the first time. I WISH that I got that type of reaction from those two scenes, as had I, I too would have been washing the piss out of my jeans while giving the film a 10\10.
You can throw all the scenes from the better film in here all you want, as I never scored Iron Man low because of cheese. Again, these are movies made for kids and grown kids. Cheese is not only expected, it is practically required. But again, I have stated I LIKED Iron Man, you twit. My points of negativity were simply to explain why I liked Batman Begins BETTER.
At no point do I recall saying that I liked Batman Begins better because it was more realistic. Know why? Because I never said that. They are comic book movies for god's sake. I understand you comic fans getting a bigger boner over these films than people who have no clue about their back stories and such. Maybe I would have liked it more. I dunno. But I gave it an 8 out of 10, so quit acting like I anal raped your mother.
And for the final time, I disliked the final confrontation in Iron Man because I was waiting for two Iron Men to come to blows and have a knock-down, drag out fight, and all I got was Iron Man getting his ass kicked (by a man who was in the suit for the FIRST time) and his personal assistant flipping a fucking switch. In which Obediah blows up into a million pieces! Oh wait...that didn't happen. I meant, Obediah falls down. The reason why the Batman Begins ending worked better was because it was filmed better. Either film could have had both subjects get down to the wire with a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors and in the hands of a good director, it could be just as edge of your seat as the final pass through in the trenches of the Death Star. But FOR ME, the final battle of Iron Man was slightly boring and really anti-climatic. Deal with it.
BTW, thanks for posting the clip. The effects were awesome, the showdown was great, the final line of "I wont kill you, but I don't have to save you" was perfectly done in both context and delivery. You helped solidify exactly why Batman Begins was the better film.

You might be right. Even so he walked away but you know what, just like others have said Iron Man doesn't need to be ultra-realistic. What it needs to be is fun & I just didn't have any. If the action sequences were at least somehwat visceral I'd be singing a slightly different tune.

Sea Hag was just on the rag for this film. Another viewing and he will give it at least a 6/10.
Morbid's other major complaint was Stark not being under guard. Even though:
1. He was under 24/hour surveillance.
2. Guards were following his progress with their own schematics.
3. The doctor helping him was working for the terrorists.
4. There was a very dramatic torture scene as soon as they noticed something was amiss.
5. The only dangerous substance he had was propellant. No explosives and no bullets.
6. The film coverage was so good, and the viewing guards so anal, that the suiting up of Stark could not be fully concealed, and led to an investigative assault.
Also, the terrorists thought they had their guy beaten. He had a physical ailment. He was NOT Ironman, or any other sort of superhero. As far as they were concerned, he was an engineer, and posed NO THREAT to a camp of men armed heavily enough to take on entire villages and the United States military. Stark had NO WEAPONS and no fighting capability. Morbid is using knowledge of the outcome and hindsight to find a plot hole where there is none. The stupidity here just staggers me. I expect so much more from a guy that LOVED "Transformers" and even said that "300" was a better film than Ironman.
As for SeaHag's biggest complaint, Stark falling from 500ft up, there have been several cases of men falling out of airplanes, landing on flat ground, and walking away. And they didn't have the luxury of wearing armor that was capable of withstanding blows against solid steel strong enough to unhinge those massive doors, or absorb machinegun fire, or punching a man across a room. The kinetic absorption in all of these cases means that Stark had more protection falling from 500ft than other survivors have had while falling from 5,000ft.
My respect for both of these guys has fallen from an even greater distance. These are shitty complaints, and not even internally consistent.

LOL! You are actually explaining away those two movie conveniences??? lol! Fanboy.
Yes, I am a fanboy. This is one of my favorite comic characters of all time. As a geek, growing up, I latched onto the superheroes that had, as their greatest asset, their wit. Favorite comicbook characters:
Ironman, Batman, Hank Pym, The Vision, Punisher, Mr. Fantastic, and Daredevil. Even my favorite guys with great power had great geek-appeal, like Doctor Strange and Spiderman.
Sorry to defuse your put-down. And the explaining away wasn't even really needed, I just wanted you to see how fucking stupid you were to make this the cornerstone of your bashing the film.
I also love that you bashed this film for having the superhero get his ass kicked, while a bit character killed the bad guy. I think you forgot how Batman Begins ended, since you got really quiet on the phone after I pointed out your hypocrisy/ignorance.
"It is my actions which define me" So fucking cheese. And you think the end was "better filmed"? Go look at how bad the effects were of that train crashing through the parking deck. It looks like something you and I would have put together. Die Hard did it better 10 years ago.
Of course, we are all entitled to our opinions, but I can back mine up. Your opinions contradict yourself and are not supported by any facts or observations. You are making yourself look like an uneducated moron.

I don't really even dig the Iron Man comic, I think I own a grand total of two issues, and walked away from the theater smiling. Everyone I went with went in expecting mediocrity and left pleased. I mean, we aren't talking about a superhero as instantly recognizable as Superman, Spiderman, and Batman. I never seen this character as an icon, but people are really digging it. It's like the quality of the movie is carrying the praise rather than the insant recognition and fanboy appeal of the comic, which is awesome.

My opinion is that Ironman is better than Batman Begins. No Katie Holmes, for one thing. Less cheese (far, far, far less). More realism (I can buy falling from 500ft in heavy armor more than I can curling the dead weight of another human being with one arm).

While I don't understand the across the board love this film is getting if people just said they loved it instead of saying something totally outlandish & wrong like it's a far better film than Begins, let alone even on par with it, I'd have just expressed why I didn't like it and moved on.
Begins has better acting even with Holmes, (the only weak link in the entire film) better villains, better action sequences, (i'll take the tumbler chase, bats saving an entire city, fighting off ninjas and besting his former master over 1 or 2 cool little snippets within an entire sequence or a 7 minute uninspired climax that culminates with Paltrow turning on a microwave) better execution, more emotion, better score, it's just the better film, period.
And to say that when the story goes back to Gotham that the film shifts towards Burton zaniness proves that you suck at watching movies. It's just not true in the slightest. (you're reaching bra) As for saying you can buy someone falling 500ft (when in actuality it was much higher than that) over someone whose trained on a goddamn mountain with ninjas for years lifting a human with one arm during a life & death situation, (with what was established in the story already why even question such a thing? and better yet, why question that when our bodies contain this thing called adrenaline?) hahaha, that's just silly.
But hey, if something like Iron Man's suit icing up while he's flying towards the earth's stratosphere (which was done already in the hulk) gives you chills then rock on with your mediocre movie loving self. In a way I'm kind of envious. If only I was so easily enthralled.

People love it because it is a great film. Begins didn't get this attention when it came out because it is the inferior product.
As much as I love Bale, his voice, while portraying Batman, was ridiculous. It was stilted and corny. And the dialog was just cringe-inducing at times.
The worst dialog moment in Ironman, for me, was when Stark said, "Yeah, I can fly" to no one in particular. Only time that I felt stirred from my state of suspension-disbelief.
In Begins, while I loved the movie for saving it from the previous two, I had several moments where I had to roll my eyes. Especially Gordon teaching himself to drive the Batmobile. Oh, and the Batmobile was just horrible in Begins.
Don't get me wrong, I would give Begins an 8/10 for comic movies, but Ironman was a perfect score for me, so there is room between the two for another notch of goodness. Hell, I would easily rank the last Hulk flick right up there with Begins. Maybe Spiderman 2 would be a 9.

That's just silly. I'm a self-professed movie geek and I went to see Begins on almost a lark. The marketing wasn't nearly as saturating as Marvel's first self-financed film and I went into it not expecting anything. It turned out to be one of my all-time great theater going experiences. Shit just came out of seemingly nowhere and kicked my ass. Afterwards I told my friend he had to see this incredible film and he was like "there's a new batman film out?"
It's quality is one of the main reasons why The Dark Knight is going to make the most money this summer.
As much as I love Bale, his voice, while portraying Batman, was ridiculous. It was stilted and corny. And the dialog was just cringe-inducing at times.
I can see that. But I can also see why he does it & I'm not bothered by it at all.

The suspension of disbelief element isn't my main gripe. It's middle of the roadness is.
In Begins, while I loved the movie for saving it from the previous two, I had several moments where I had to roll my eyes. Especially Gordon teaching himself to drive the Batmobile.
It walked a fine line but I think Nolan handled it just right. If he backed up through a building or something & belted out a one-liner I'd probably agree with you.
Oh, and the Batmobile was just horrible in Begins.

And I used to love the Spidey flicks, specifically the 2nd one, but I can't watch'em anymore. Everything dealing with Parker & MJ's relationship (which seemingly takes up more than 1/2 of each films runtime) just bogs everything down.

Pretty interesting you say that because that's exactly why I like those flicks so much. Except for part 3. Dear God. Everyone was asleep at the wheel for that one. Woof.

This is why they make chocolate and vanilla ... because you like shitty ice cream.
Personally here is why I loved the film.
Pace: It kept a solid pace throughout. There was never a moment that felt like it should have been left on the cutting room floor. Every scene had a reason and a purpose. It kept a pretty solid pace throughout, where even thought it wasn't action scene after action scene, things felt natural. Nothing was rushed and nothing was forced. That also leads to what was the films biggest flaw. They spent a little to much time after Stark got back home where he was just building the suit. I'd have loved it if they chopped that scene in half and added another action bit in there. Realistically... it didn't take to much away from the overall pace of things, because everything fit together so well.
Flow: Using Transformers as an example you can really tell that that movie wanted to be funny, and have action, and have romance. And it was literally done in such a way that each scene smack you in the face and says THIS IS AN ACTION SCENE, ENJOY IT BITCHES! Then they'll follow it with a scene thats obviously meant to be the humorous opposite of what was directly before it. Now... they're is nothing really wrong with that, its a formula that a lot of action movies follow, some worse than others... but to me Iron Man did it in a way where it didn't feel like it was was blocked off into chunks of comedy, then action, then drama. Everything flowed together nicely. Tony Stark can make smart ass comments in the middle of a action scene and not have it seem out of place or forced. I really dug how it all came together.
Visually: Visually the movie was a blast. The CGI was top notch. And they didn't use it just for the sake of using it (Speed Racer... I'm looking in your direction!). Every location was interesting, from the desert scenes to Stark Industries to his house. It was all fun to look at.
Acting: The acting in Iron Man was to notch. Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark. There is not another actor on the face of the earth who could have pulled this character off the way he did. Gwyneth Paltrow, whom I honestly could have cared less about before this film, did great as Pepper Potts. She has really good on screen chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. Jeff Bridges is great, as usual.
Interesting side note, both Tom Cruise and Nicolas Cage were in talks of playing Tony Stark at one point or another. Could you imagine Tom Cruise playing Iron Man? I'd rather not...
Realistic Approach to an Unrealistic Premise: We do realize that we're watching a comic book film here right? Iron Man did a good job of taking an unrealistic premise and making it believable. There is nothing, absolutely nothing in Iron Man that is any worse than any other comic film (hell action film) out there.
Batman is about a guy who dresses as a bat and fights crime. I don't care if he lived on a mountain and trained for years. You show me a guy who dresses as a bat in his spare time and I'll show you a future mental patient. Or how about a guy who mutates into a gigantic green monster when he gets pissed off? Better yet how about a blind guy who fights crime? I mean come on... none of this stuff is "realistic". But all these movies have taken a realistic approach to what has been presented in front of them and made it seem possible. I can only speak for myself, but when I say "Iron Man was realistic" I'm not talking about the same kind of realism that comes with films like "Saving Private Ryan". What I simply meant as that they did a good job of making everything believable. As believable as a comic book movie could be.
Because honestly... would anyone be able to survive a 600 foot fall? Fuck no. But its a movie. None of this shit could ever happen. Ever. Not Batman. Not Superman. Not Iron Man. Not The Hulk. Not Daredevil. Not Hellboy. Nothing from Sin City, Transformers, Die Hard, Robocop, The Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Halloween, The Mist, Cloverfield, From Dusk Till Dawn, Childs Play, Death Proof, Vanishing Point (well maybe Vanishing Point), X-Men, Rambo, Rocky, and motherfucking Knocked Up wouldn't even happen the way it does on the screen. But you know what I've never once heard someone say "You know Halloween was a really good movie... but you know that scene at the very end of the movie? The one where Michael Myers is shot and falls out the window. Then a moment later is gone. Yea... that'd never happen, therefore its going from a 10 star film to about a 6 or 7. That ending was so unrealistic!"
Movies aren't made to be realistic. They're made to be a better, more interesting version of realistic. If you cannot suspend disbelief for an hour and a half of your day and understand why Iron Man did one hell of a good job in making it seem like a guy really could fly around in a stupid metal suit and fight crime.... we'll I really feel sorry for you.
And for the record, I'm not even that big of a fan of the comic. I don't own a single Iron Man comic. So I have no previous "fanboy" attachments to the franchise. I just really like the movie, and think everyone should go see it.
I also can't wait to go see The Dark Knight, I'm sure that'll be a 10 star film as well.
Also... this needs to be posted as well:

This is the second best hold for a movie based on a Marvel Comics character after Spider-Man six years ago, compared to previous Marvel-based films that have faced second weekend drops of 52% or more. With a total gross of $177 million, Iron Man is already on the outskirts of becoming one of the top 10 superhero movies ever after just 10 and a half days. Not bad if you compare Spiderman's name value vs Ironman's before this movie.

I think word-of-mouth, repeat viewers, and little competition is really fueling this.

I know I went to see the movie again tonight. I very rarely see a movie twice in theaters but to me Iron Man was worth it. I enjoyed it just as much the second time around as the first...

Im not much of a double dipper myselve, 3 times have I gone and Id gladly go a fourth if someone wants company to see it.
I must confess I had a terrible time the third viewing but I was watching it dubed in a kid packed theater with a leak over my jacket... I would have hated anything under those conditions.
Im prety sure I would enjoy it a fourth time under proper theater going circumstances. after all, i need to see Captain America's shield, no?

Thats the wort part about seeing these big movies. If you happen to hit the wrong showing you can end up in a theater full of little kids who won't shut the fuck up.

Yea, damn kids. The one good thing besides the comparativley dirt cheap prices about the cinema here in mexico is going to a kid friendly movie but with subtitles instead of dubed in spanish often does filter out the kids.
But then you have asshole selfish parents like the one I was stuck yesterday during Speed Racer that have no consideration for either their kids or other movie goers and take their kids that obiously cant read at subded movie speeds to this showings instead of the dubed ones, then the kids start asking frenetically about the plot they cant understand, gets bored of that during mid film and start runing througth the hallways making car noises instead with his dad triing to ignore him just as much as the rest of us instead of paying the proper atention to him...
This one viewing of ironman I went to the dubed one because I was going with a friend that insisted on that. Fuck no, I wont ever do that again.
