Rented this one a few weeks ago from Netflix and got around to watching it the other night. I ended up watching it out of boredom and kicked myself for not having done so sooner.

The film starts off with a mild mannered NYC meter maid named Chris. He's walking home after work on Halloween with his hands full with candy and rented horror films. On the sidewalk, he finds an invitation. The invitation is in all black with a red note inside saying simply "Murder Party - Come Alone" and an address.

Chris goes home and decides to cut open some large cardboard boxes to create a (hilarious) knight costume. He follows the directions to an abandoned warehouse down by the water. Upon entering, he is told that tonight will be the night he dies and that the party is for him, his murder.

The plot might sound a bit creepy at this point, but the film is actually a comedy. A very dark, very hilarious comedy. The film follows the people at the party, each one of them aspiring artists. One is dressed as a 19th century vampire, one is Pris from Blade Runner, one is the Wolfman and the other is dressed as one of the baseball gang members from The Warriors.

They put the invitation out in hopes that someone would find it and actually be stupid enough to show up. Their plan is to murder Chris and use the murder as art to impress Alexander, an art snob who supposedly has access to over $500,000 in grant money.

As I said before, the film is hilarious. Chris's captors are so wrapped up in themselves, their art and drugs that it produces a ton of comedic material. The only way I know to describe it is to say that it's sort of like Reservoir Dogs, if that film was a dark horror comedy.

The in fighting and bickering amongst the group leads to an absolutely fantastic ending. Let me just say that the ending involves chainsaws, axes, guns, and a dog that is high on crank. It's a bloody, violent, shocking last third of the film considering the rest was humor based. It does fit in quite well though.

The actors here are mainly first time actors according to the IMDB. I find that extremely surprising as each person puts in a hell of a performance. Alex Barnett who plays Alexander is truly an actor to watch. His art snob character is fantastic, and his acting is spot on. The whole film, he may or may not be lying about the grant and it's great to see the way that plays out.

Overall, this is a bloody and hilarious film. If you go to the local video store this Halloween looking for something a bit different, then I must recommend picking this film up from the shelf. It was a pleasant surprise and was far from what I expected it to be.

I keep meaning to watch this and keep getting sidetracked. Think I may try to watch it this weekend.

That's the same thing that kept happening to me. I'd end up watching a film I'd watched numerous times before instead of giving this one a try. I ended up watching it out of boredom and it turned out to be a big surprise.

It's an indie so it's a very low budget film and has more talking than action. Overall though, I think you'll be very pleased with it. I know I was.

It wasnt exactly what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. For some reason I was expecting an over the top gore filled horror/comedy.

Definitley something that will get multiple viewings in the future. 3.5/5 maybe a 4.

I only know of one other person with that avatar that would possibly sign up here...you must be BD's Matt Python. In any case, welcome to the site.

I am so glad I waited until tonight to watch this film. What a perfect movie to add to the annual Halloween movie night. It was really, really good...especially since some of the characters reminded me of some of the drug-addled E-tards and Coke heads I used to associate with back in the clubbing days...not that went to the clubs, but the after parties were decent if you were into that sort of thing.

Anyway, great movie.

I loved when he was in the closet? and looks like he's going to MacGyver his way out!
Then when they open the door he just throws the stuff towards them, jukes left and goes right!
That was just funny to me!

LOL

Yeah, I busted out laughing at that part as well. It was great how they all just kind of stood there and waited for him to do something.

What I think I liked best about the film was that I kind of knew where everything was going but it still kept it fresh.

Its odd, I just watched this last week, and I that scene had completely slipped my mind. For me it might have been the funniest part in the film. Im actually having the urge to give it a rewatch. I think Im gonna try to do that this weekend.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing the same thing. My wife was working when I originally watched it but I might see about getting her to sit down and check it out.

I've walked by this one many times at work and for some reason or another just never watched. I've heard it's quite good before, and now after reading this review I'll totally have to check it out! Thanks!

I just got done watching the film. I enjoyed it. Enjoyed the fact that there was a dude dressed up as one of the Baseball Furries from "The Warriors".

I really dug this movie as well. I wish some of the mainstream crap was half as interesting as this. It was a tad predictable, but still fun and nonpretentious.
