View Full Version : Morbid is a Fanboy

Here is my thread devoted to Morbid being a fanboy. Here's how it will work... anytime there is negative XBox 360 news, I am going to post it here and watch Morbid try to spin it into a positive. After I ridicule him for this, we will watch him change the subject and bash Sony. Finally, he will ignore every point made and just start calling me a Fanboy in retaliation.

We do this on the phone all the time, and I hate that I'm the only person entertained by his antics.

Here's my disclosure, I have owned every console ever made except for probably the best one ever made (the Sega Dreamcast). The SNES has been my all-time top fave, with the PS2 a close second. I absolutely loathe Sony. I still have two MiniDisc players that they left me hanging with and hate the Apple-Like proprietary nature of their practices. I think Blu-Ray is an un-needed media format for movies. I recently bought a PS3 because I need to play RockBand, GH3, Assassins Creed, et al. The price drop and the flood of titles to both systems left it down to exclusives, and I like the quirky Japanese-style games more than the shooters, which I play on my PC. My favorite franchises are Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy, and Hot Shots. The kicker for me is the fail rate of the XBox, which is in the 30% range. (more to come on that)

Before the 360 failure rate debacle, I was on the fence. Afterwards, I knew I would get a PS3 first (I will own them all eventually), but waited on the price to come down. I've been as critical of the PS3 as anyone (Multiple SKU's, shitty online, price, controller, rumble, etc...) However, since Morbid is a rabid fanboy, my centrist stance ends up making me look like someone on the other extreme. End disclosure.

Here's the first nugget of 360 hellishness:

The FastSilicon.com crew has been curious to know how many Xbox 360 units have been shipped back to Microsoft for repair. To get an idea, we recently went to our local UPS store to evaluate the situation. Several workers described a steady stream of Xboxes flowing through the store daily. Each day, the store processes between six and ten Xbox 360s. This does not include repaired boxes received for return delivery to the consumer. A local worker has been shipping these Xboxes since he has worked there. He described Microsoft customers who have come in with their 3rd, or even 4th, Xbox 360. This is not an uncommon occurrence. He has experienced more than a few tense and angry customers due to this unfortunate circumstance. No employee has worked there long enough for us to determine how long this has been happening, however, it became apparent that this has been going on for quite some time.

The question becomes, why does Microsoft keep sending out the same defective Xbox? It may be refurbished and in working condition, but it is the same defective design that is going to fail for the same reason. Some users have gone through as many as seven Xboxes, with an average turn-around of three weeks. A few have even reported turn-around times of up to 10 weeks. Worse than that, Microsoft does not reimburse users for their Xbox Live subscription down-time.

Microsoft needs to get their act together. How are customers going to react to the next Xbox? Microsoft already has trust issues with their customers. This will only serve to aggravate, or destroy, their already tenuous relationship with gamers. Product reliability should never be a coin toss. Hopefully, Microsoft will somehow push their 65nm Xbox sooner. The blow-back from the holiday season will be severe if the same issues extend beyond the coming year. Continued design flaws and poor customer service may open the door for either of the other competitors to step up.

This is just one local store!

My guess is that Morbid is on his third 360, but as a fanboy is terrified to confess.

P.S., I apologize for the length of this post, but as a PS3 owner, I have a little time on my hand while I wait for some games to come out.

Some more Morbid tidbits (paraphrased):

"What's wrong with Microsoft releasing a 360 without a hard drive? They are just trying to save the consumer some money."

"Nobody needs HDMI"

"FPS's are better on the console"

"DVD9 is plenty big for next-gen games"

"Vista rules!"

"I'll probably put a modchip in my 3rd 360"

Morbid

Yeah, you got me.

Here are some of your tid bits

"I bow to Morbid's cock and wait in anticipation for the day he allows me to put my mouth upon it!"

"I would love to play more games on my PSP, but I am too busy fucking it!"

"My PS3 has so much cool shit to do on it, I now have MORE time on my hands to create a post about Morbid's 360 fanboism!"

Now, only because I am waiting for XP to load on another PC, I will give an example (that others have noted) on how swivel "debates". Here are what he said I have said (paraphrased completely out of context), and what I actually said:

Some more Morbid tidbits (paraphrased):

"What's wrong with Microsoft releasing a 360 without a hard drive? They are just trying to save the consumer some money."

My actual comment was that MS fucked up by not releasing a HD with the console, but they were probably trying to save money...just like SOny and the rumble feature.

"Nobody needs HDMI"

Pulled right out of his ass. I am so untechnical when it comes to disply related stuff, I have no clue what the advantages are, or if I can even use it.

"FPS's are better on the console"

The actual statement, which can be read elsewhere in the forums, is that I have no issues with playing FPS on the console any longer, and I actually like the feel of pulling a trigger to shoot and the recoil from the feedback. I also stated that I would easily trade that for the quick aiming you get from a mouse, as long as I am not playing MULTIPLAYER.

"DVD9 is plenty big for next-gen games"

Yup. Only sloppy coding states otherwise.

"Vista rules!"

WTF? You BEGGED me to put Vista on my system and spent half your phone conversations trying to talk me into it by telling me how much better it was than XP. I now have NO Vista systems as it seemed overly bloated and had shit graphic card support. That's strange, swivel...but another example of how delusional you are when it comes to recalling what others say...including yourself.

"I'll probably put a modchip in my 3rd 360"

Absolutely. I own one and my son wants one of his own to transport. Why would I mod either of those?

But let me get this out of the way, since the whole fanboy thing seems so important to you.

I.DON'T.GIVE.A.FUCK.

If I was a 360\Sony\PC fanboy, I surely wouldn't care what you, or anyone else thought about it. Seriously. You may want to try and figure out why you care so much about what I am a fan of, that you are trying to convince complete strangers. Seriously, it really seems quite strange. I can really only think of one type of person who would actually go through the trouble to create a thread like this.

That wasn't a rant, that was a reply-from-boredom.

I don't have Halo 3 at the moment, but if I did, I would be playing it. I was taking a break from setting up XP for the second time on the same system. Now I am taking a break from downloading Half Life 2 via Steam.

Speaking of Steam. If you download Orange Box via Steam, and already own Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 1 (which I do), you can then give those two away to anyone you want as a gift. I thought that was pretty cool.

Actually...I am a bit of both. Bored, and a little drunk from finishing off a bottle of Bailey's and a bottle of Butterscotch Schnapps that have been sitting on my bar for almost 6 months.

As is a bit evident from my inability to remember which user name I am logged in to.

Dude, 6 to 10 consoles being shipped back every day! Many customers on their 3rd or 4th unit. We like to poke fun at the PS3 having few games, but 360 owners are sitting at home with games, and no console...

I totally understand why you might need three of these things, that way you can keep cycling them through customer service.

btw, can we get this thread on the front page?

As much as I would love to have a new flame war on the forums, this thread will never be one. Now, we could make it one if you want, and I'll take the side of a Wii owner, or a true 360 fanboy. But my heart isn't in it. Now, had you been a little less obvious about your trolling, it may have worked.

You would be EXTREMELY disappointed in our phone conversations. It usually starts out cordial enough, with us talking about a movie, or game, or just something going on. Then it will usually enter console territory in which the majority of our argument take place and where swivel catalogs every single word I say to use at times in the future...knowing damn well I will forget anything specific he said 24 hours after he said it. Then we will get back on track by talking about your tits before calling it quits.

Can you combine your user accounts? It's like dealing with someone with Multiple Personalities.

Oh, and I won our bet made almost a year ago that the 360 and PS3 would have identical sales years. Look how eerie these graph lines are:

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3926/hardwarcoua1.jpg

To jog your memory, I said the PS3 would match the sales of the 360 over the first year, or exceed them. At the time, the 360 had been out for a year, and you were buying one, and calling the launch a success, while the PS3 launch was a failure. My argument was that they were both botched with hardware issues and shortages (Blu-Ray diode and 360 memory supply). You said the PS3 wouldn't come close to the 360 sales due to price. I asked you to bet any amount of money (settling on $500), but the fanboy in you lost out to the realist, who declined to put your money where your mouth was.

I am so glad you even remember these year old conversations. Because I don't. But unlike yourself, if I actually said any of those things in the way you presented it...or anything you say you said for that matter...especially considering how you skew things I said just one day ago, I will admit that I was wrong.

In fact, seeing that when Matt was a little younger, he would sometimes throw a fit or get upset when he wanted something he couldn't have, I would occasionally just give it to him so he would shut up as I either just didn't really care to deal with it, or just didn't feel the denial of the object was worth the hassle of the effects of denying.

So here, swivel, here is your bright, red sucker. I was wrong.

Now, can you use all this effort you put into these dumbass console vs. console threads, and which is better, to much more flame worthy topics? Or at the very least, do a better job of creating bait threads? Thanks.

Oh yeah, I just got clarification, the $500 bet was that the PS3 would not outsell the 360 in a year. You stated it would.

I know, I know. You ever had something sitting around in the wrong spot for so long, it just sort of becomes a part of the scenery? Not like a Stair Master or weight bench...I mean at least you can hang clothes on those...I mean like one time I had set a small tea cup that I had found outside sitting on my deck railing, I have no idea whose it was or why it was there, but I figured I would wash it. I set it on the window sill above my kitchen sink and it sat there for about a year. It got to the point that it became invisible or something.

Anyway, that was the case with these two bottles of liquor. Buttery Nipples is what the drink was called, but since there was Vodka and Rum at the party, not much of it got drank\drunk. But the two bottles sat on the end of the bar ever since...in the exact same spot whoever used them last placed them. I was going out to eat sushi the other night, and figured I would fix a drink when I realized I didn't have my favorite drinking glass to use with my chilled Vodka. But I did have a shot glass handy...and then I noticed the two bottles. Checking the, and seeing as the were both half-full, I decided what the hell.

Are you claiming that it is stupid to remember conversations from a year ago, or that you DO remember and that I was wrong? Make up your mind.

And this demonstrates why I often have to point our your hypocrisy, and how it does not take a great memory, or me obsessing over something. You just did this in a single post, this weekend it was within 15 minutes in a single conversation. It does not tax my limited mental abilities to catch you in a lie. All it takes is basic comprehension skills.

You said that the PS3 would not sell as many units as the 360. I said that it would, or even outsell it. If you look at the graph, the PS3 has indeed outsold the 360 over identical periods in the launch cycle to date. You are damn lucky your reasonable self (Killroy, I assume?) kept your fanboy self (Morbid?) out of that bet. Now you have enough money to buy another 360!

Two morons agreeing on something false doesn't make shit real. I repeatedly stated that we could take any 1-year period that corresponded to the release date. I know, you were very confused about this at the time, so it doesn't surprise me that you haven't gotten quicker-of-the-mind as you approach 40.

I never said that the PS3 would surpass the 360 in total sales in one year. I have always praised MS's decision to launch a year early, and have only ever said that the PS3 would match or beat the sales of the 360 for any similar period.

It is your comprehension skills that are for shit. But I do enjoy another case of you accusing me of the very thing you are guilty of. And how something you "don't care about" is on its third page already. Just can't contain that fanboy of yours, can you?

You are the one who seems a bit perturbed. Again, anytime I need to know what you are thinking/doing, I just have to analyze what you are accusing me of. Not a brilliant tactic for adults.

Let's nail some things down, and stay on topic a bit. Some questions:

1. Was it a good idea, in your opinion, to release a hard-drive-less 360 SKU?
2. Is there any reason a game should exceed the size of a single DVD?
3. Are FPS games better on a console, rather than a PC?
4. Was Gears of War a FPS?
5. Do you like the Zune?
6. Would you classify the 360 launch a success?
7. Do you worry about your console RROD'ing on you?
8. Can you hear your games over the sound of your DVD drive?
9. Was the PS3 too expensive at launch?
10. Does MGS4 look gay to you?
11. Do you like exclusives?
12. How important is rumble to you in a game?
13. Should console makers support the keyboard/mouse combo?
14. Are achievements cool?
15. Is motion-sensing "Next-Gen"?
16. Do you prefer your power supplies internal, rather than external?
17. Have you ever tried to compare the launch 360 Premium with the launch 60GB PS3 in order to exaggerate the price difference between two non-identical SKU's?
18. Do you think Live should be free?
19. Have you ever bragged about how great a current/upcoming PS3 game is going to be?
20. Have you ever bragged about how great a 360 game was, despite the mediocre reviews?

All yes/no questions. Give it a shot. I'm trying to perfect a fanboy quiz, and since I already know where you stand, it would help me to normalize the score. I already have your answer on most of these from previous conversations, so try to keep your hypocrisy in check.

Swivel's "I'm not a PS3 fanboy, but YOU are a 360 fanboy Quiz"

1. Was it a good idea, in your opinion, to release a hard-drive-less 360 SKU?

Hindsight is 20\20. At the time, I thought it was a good way to alleviate sticker shock by offering flavors of 360's. Also, the SKU's that came without HD's could have them added. You were never "locked" into a model that didn't have something, and never could.

2. Is there any reason a game should exceed the size of a single DVD?

Sure.

3. Are FPS games better on a console, rather than a PC?

Depends on why I am playing. If I am playing UT3 deathmatc, then I want the speed and accuracy of the mouse. If I am playing Bioshock, I like the ability to pull triggers to shoot a gun..you know, like a gun. Once you get used to the thumbstick of a game that has been programmed correctly, it is a piece of cake. Though I understand why some would suck at it.

4. Was Gears of War a FPS?

No. But the aiming mechanics are the same as one. You still have to use the thumbstick to aim and shoot.

5. Do you like the Zune?

Never owned one.

6. Would you classify the 360 launch a success?

Compared to what? The PS2? the PS3? The Wii? If I am limited to success or failure with no grey area, then yes.

7. Do you worry about your console RROD'ing on you?

No. Why would I? If it happens, I get another one. If not through the warranty, then I'll buy another one. They are not that expensive.

8. Can you hear your games over the sound of your DVD drive?

Yes.

9. Was the PS3 too expensive at launch?

I felt that it was expensive only in the fact that I was paying for a piece of technology I didn't want. Specifically, the Blu-Ray. I thought it was way too early to include such a new piece of technology into the console.

10. Does MGS4 look gay to you?

Yes.

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/8689/ddjokn2.gif

11. Do you like exclusives?

What? If they are good, who wouldn't? GTA was great, as was GoW. If you meant to ask do I like the idea of exclusives, well then, no. But they do sell consoles.

12. How important is rumble to you in a game?

On a scale of 1 to 10, and speaking specifically about a console controller over a mouse, and depending on the game, a 5.

13. Should console makers support the keyboard/mouse combo?

Why not.

14. Are achievements cool?

Yes. They add replayibility to a game and are absolutely no different than having a check list of quests to show you which ones you have finished or not.

15. Is motion-sensing "Next-Gen"?

What? Like with the Wii? Or with the PS3 controller?

16. Do you prefer your power supplies internal, rather than external?

Don't rightly give a shit. I use laptops on a daily basis. Guess I am used to them.

17. Have you ever tried to compare the launch 360 Premium with the launch 60GB PS3 in order to exaggerate the price difference between two non-identical SKU's?

I guess since you are asking me, you must have cataloged me doing this. So, yes?

18. Do you think Live should be free?

Yes. But I also wish gasoline was too.

19. Have you ever bragged about how great a current/upcoming PS3 game is going to be?

Yes. Lair. But we saw how that turned out. The other is that weird looking platform game coming out that looks cool as hell.

20. Have you ever bragged about how great a 360 game was, despite the mediocre reviews?

I dunno. Have I?

Why do you think I'm angry? Because I'm pointing our your hypocrisy and ignorance? This makes me happy, not angry.

The correct answers were:

No, Yes, Sometimes, No, No, Yes, Yes, Barely, No, Yes, No, Yes, Yes, No, Yes, Yes, No, No, Yes, Yes. Which gives you a fanboy rating of Zero.

Most of the questions don't even count, they are just traps to account for lying.

No clue. He used it in an argument with me earlier. For some reason, swivel equated me thinking that the Zune sounded good made me an MS fanboy? I dunno. As far as the Zune goes, I never bought one, but the reviews are not bad:

But Sony has my dough. I own a PS2, and eventually, when the PS3 has at least 10 great titles, and isn't just a high-tech paperweight, I'll own one of those as well.

I don't fall for your PS2 bullshit. You bought one used as a cheap inoculation against my fanboy accusations, and only after ages of begging you to give more than one console a shot. You've played Guitar Hero and God of War and not much else. I own more XBox games than you ever stole, and I probably have more PS2 games lost under my sofa than you ever bought. So, playing the "I own a PS2" crap only works with someone that doesn't know you.

For someone that pretends to love good games, rather than just buying whatever all the other fanboys buy, you haven't even tried the great games of the era. Just one of those sad multiplay-adrenaline-junkies that plays whatever mindless shooter is the current rage.

If I wasn't your friend, I wouldn't care. Go ahead, waste your time playing countless online bouts of frag-n-fag. But, I do care. I want you to play the Katamari of our day. Boot up FFXII, or Okami, or Ico. Jeane d'Arc is easily GOTY for me, and Dungeons and Dragons: Tactics brought PnP RPG's to the pixel for the first time. LocoRoco invented a new genre, and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness is about to define a long-lost one. There is art to be had in videogames. But you are to my hobby what today's youth is to horror. Kids that love the new Halloween just because it is violent and cusses needlessly. Can't you see that I just want what is good for you?

Step away from Halo 3. Take off your headset. Get lost in a decent game.

Get lost in a decent game.

That's why I own a 360.

And I have played Guitar Hero 1 and 2 on the PS2, as well as God of War 1 & 2, Shadow of Colossus, 2 of the Ratchet and Clank games, Dark Cloud (though I never finished it), one of the Jak and Daxter games, True Crimes Streets of LA, Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil.

So, I don't know what is more pathetic, your incorrect argument or the fact that you are trying so hard to fan a spark that doesn't exist.

Now, if you want to get an argument going, how about we talk about the games the PS3 does not have. Aside from the "classic" Folklore you are raving about (which the reviews are saying is an 8\10 at best. Not bad, granted, but no classic), what else are you enjoying on that new system? What quirky game is taking up all your time? Lair? Heavenly Sword?

I'm not a PS3 fanboy. I'm a gaming fanboy. That's why I chose my favorite games of the past year, and not my favorite console. I would already own a 360 if it wasn't for the fail rate. I really want a modded console so I can "sample" these cross-platform games without getting ripped off. Demos don't do a game justice.

The PS3 is shit for modding because the ISO's are going to be too big to mess with downloading. A modded 360 would be perfect because I don't give a fuck about online shit anyway. But it might be a problem sending a console back to MS that has been cracked open and soldered on. So I'm waiting for them to get the hardware problems sorted out. Besides, the only game on the system that has me excited right now is the upcoming Mass Effect. Everything else is better on the PC.

Oh, and naming PS2 games that your kid has played doesn't count. Half your list is bullshit, and you and I both know it. You are only fooling the lurkers here.

If that were actually true, you would have bought a console with actual games to play, not one that might have good games to play. Seriously, you look worse and worse the more you post on this subject.

Yeah, my kid LOVES Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill...and I forgot about Fatal Frame. The only game I listed that he has even played are the Guitar Hero games and Streets of LA. But you already know this and you know that the lurkers don't. Shitty debating tactic, but whatever works, I guess. Oh, and by pointing out the "lurkers" does not make you look like you aren't attempting playing to them, it does the exact opposite and is usually the act of someone...well, you know...we've all been on forums long enough.

You like that one better than the Star Wars one? It is white with Vader on the back. I've seen them both, and personally, I like the Silver better of the two. But I like the smudgy black best of all three.

It is an OK deal, not a great one. First problem is the 1 gig stick. It's too small for what you are going to want to do with the system. You really need a 4gig stick, and it needs to be the Sandisk Ultra II. The difference in load times, smoothness of every game, and transfer of movies is incredible. And you can get the included software for free, if you lack scruples. Better to buy a standalone for $169 and a stick for $40 than this combo.

You really need someone with a phat PSP to get homebrew going for you.

I know, but let's look at it from the standpoint that I wont be using any homebrew stuff for a little while. Would that setup be a decent starter? Is Jax a decent game? I cannot get to any sites to check reviews. I have not been a Star Wars fan since the '80s, so I would prefer not having any of their branding on anything I own. :P

Daxter is a great game. One of the highest-praised. It probably averaged a 9/10 from the reviewers and is still the second-best platformer on the system (Ratchet, a newer game, is slightly better). So, if you want a game to play, get the combo and enjoy the game and the cartoon that you will also enjoy.

However, even with the PSP and DS games that I own (which are quite a lot), I still play them off the memory sticks. They load faster (so much faster on the PSP, that you can't go back), and you can carry several games at once right in the system.

If you want to unlock your PSP, I can mail you a battery and a memory stick. All you have to do, in order to unlock your system, is put the memory stick in the PSP, and then pop in the battery. A green light will come on. You press the "X" button, and wait for the PSP to shut itself down, and presto, you have 3.60 M-33, the custom firmware by Dark Alex. After that, you need to download the 3.71 M-33 update, run it, and you are caught up.

This lets you put your ISO backups in the ISO folder and boot them from the XBar. It also gives you a recovery menu where you can turn off the UMD drive and run ISO's without a UMD in there to fool the system. This will give you tons of more battery life. You can also get rid of the Sony boot-up logo, emulate any region, install plug-ins, etc...

OK. Only had chance to mess with it for about an hour or so. The game looked cool, the internet browsing works in a pinch, the sound volume sucks ass, the overall construction seems beefier and a lot more gadgety than the DS. I like it so far.

That being said, what are some must-have accessories I need to get? Headphones for sure, what kind of screen protector? Or anything else for that matter?

I like the Invisishield a LOT.

http://www.shieldzone.com/?gclid=CI-a2qTbp48CFQwsOAodDx04Rg

It is a strange application process. You spray a solution on your fingers, then on both sides of a plastic piece. Put it on the screen, and sqeegie it off. All the tools are supplied, and it creates a semi-rubber barrier over the screen that actually improves the display quality, rather than harming it. You can rub a penny across the screen afterwards, and it won't leave a mark. A must-have in my opinion. Just get the screen cover, don't mess with the total-face cover. Take the battery out while doing it, and let it sit overnight. Don't struggle with little bubbles and imperfections, they magically go away after two days.

I really enjoy the case that I got. Don't know the name, but it is a hard clamshell with a fabric cover just a little bigger than the PSP. And that is it, unless you want to play games on your TV, while you hold the PSP like a controller, and then you'll need the TV-out cable. Some games, like Jeane d'Arc and Hot Shots play great on the TV, and movies look surprisingly nice.
