Leah Walsh, 29, called her husband William on Monday to tell him about the flat tire she got while driving on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway near Bethpage, N.Y. — but by the time he got there she was gone, Long Island's Newsday newspaper reported.

She was reported missing by her husband at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials at the school in Glen Cove where Walsh teaches autistic children also notified police when she failed to show up for work that morning.

William Walsh said that his wife's purse was found as he was searching the area around her abandoned 2005 Ford Focus with authorities later that day, the paper reported.

An emotional Walsh appealed to the public to help bring his wife home.

"You can have my cars," he told Newsday. "You can have everything. I just want my wife back."

Police said they were treating Walsh's disappearance as a missing persons case, not an abduction, the New York Daily News reported.

Lucas Bean, a friend of the young woman, told the Daily News that she had marital problems following a "huge fight" with her husband on Sunday.

Bean told the paper Williams texted him while she was traveling from her parents' house to her apartment in Bethpage.

"She was telling me that things are not going to work out with her and her husband and she had to tell me something very important, but she needed to wait til she got out of the car with him," Bean, 32, of Los Angeles, told the paper.

"She was in the car with him texting to me so that was Sunday night and they were in a huge fight," Bean continued.

Bean told the paper he never learned what the fight was about.

It was Monday that she failed to show for work....I'm assuming that she called her husband in the a.m. because it was stated that they were searching around her vehicle 'later that day.'

I too, was wondering why he waited until Tuesday evening. Based on the fact that they found her purse with her abandoned vehicle, that should raise some suspicions.

And this statement.....

"You can have my cars," he told Newsday. "You can have everything. I just want my wife back."

I found that odd. WTF do his cars have to do with anything?

Leah Walsh, who usually leaves her home for work between 6:15 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., sent a text message to her husband at about 6:25 a.m., telling him to "have a great day," William Walsh told a reporter for 1010 WINS radio.

"That's the last I heard from her," he added through sobs.

He later told reporters outside his in-laws' home in Rockville Centre: "I want my wife back."

Police also noted that a state Department of Transportation HELP vehicle, which assists motorists with car trouble, left a sticker on the side of Leah Walsh's abandoned car at about 6:30 a.m. The stickers are used to notify police that a vehicle was undergoing some kind of mechanical difficulty.

The couple, who live in Bethpage, have been married for three years; they have no children, Smith said.

I don't know. My DD gut feeling is yeah, the husband has something to do with this. But you know, my husband and I have had fights in the past that would have had neighbors say, "yeah, he probably buried her outback, you should check...."

Just saying. fights can get really ugly but doesn't mean you'd kill your spouse...geez, for my sake I hope not! the worse we have done is throw bread...yeah bread..lol!

Seriously, I'm hoping they find her soon or she shows up pissed off but alive.

I'm not sure on this one. I do not want to become tunnel visioned when it comes to these matters. Obviously the husband would be first to be looked at funny, but what else is known about the matter at this point? One of those wait and see.

While the husband is logical, I have some doubts:

You would think it would be easy enough for the cops to check where she was when the text was sent and where he was when he got it.

It was her father who found her car. On the video from police, school called mom when she didn't show. Mom called dad who was bus driver and just happened to be on that highway. He found the car. Weird.

The car DID have a flat. A bit elaborate for hubby to do all this in an open area (highway) where he could have easily been spotted and then get home to get txt message (so it would register on the correct tower).

The husband on video sounds hundreds of times more emotional than my husband ever would. Everyone would suspect mine because of his demeanor - even if innocent. So I can't tell when i don't know him.

So while husband is most logical, I'm unsure.

Investigators believe the body, found in a wooded area about 50 feet from a Long Island Expressway service road, had been there for more than 24 hours, Nassau County Police Lt. Kevin Smith said.

He said the woman's face was not easily identifiable, but declined to discuss other specifics.

Bummer. I hate when that happens. Can't wait to hear how they tripped him - or he tripped himself.

I will say, If my hubby cries when I die, I will rise from the dead. If he does not crack a joke, I will haunt him. No matter what, he will be show minimal, if any, emotion and everyone will think he offed me. I doubt that will be how I die, but folks will wonder...

William Walsh confessed yesterday afternoon to killing his wife, Leah Walsh, a 29-year-old special education teacher, and to dumping her body in a wooded area on the property of the North Hills Country Club, Det. Vincent Garcia told ABCNews.com

The 29-year old Walsh was arraigned this morning on second-degree murder charges and held without bail, according to the district attorney's office. His lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.

Walsh had for days publicly pleaded for help in the search for his wife after her abandoned Ford Focus, broken down with a flat tire, was found Monday along a local highway near the town of Bethpage.

Police said today that when her car was first spotted Monday morning, a witness saw a person crouching near the car's front passenger tire. The person ran back to a yellow car and drove away, the witness told police. According to Garcia, William Walsh owns a yellow Mustang.

Garcia said Walsh told investigators he got into an argument with his wife early Sunday morning after returning from a trip to Atlantic City. He said the fight escalated into a physical confrontation and that Walsh killed Leah Walsh sometime on Sunday.

Garcia said Walsh left his wife's body in the house while he ran errands, including having his laundry done and eating at a local McDonald's, before dumping the body Sunday night.

Walsh left his wife's car along the side of the road Monday morning and set up the scene to look like a possible robbery, according to Garcia. Leah Walsh's purse was found in a ditch near her car.

Walsh went back later that morning for unknown reasons, Garcia said, and was seen by a witness.

Dumbshit obviously doesn't watch even the most basic CSI-type show.

They can tell how long a body's been dead. They can tell if it's been moved. Never drive a high-profile car when you stage a scene. I'm sure there is more we will hear...

Walsh's brother arrested after jail break-in

Murder defendant William Walsh Jr.'s younger brother tried to sneak into the Nassau County jail yesterday while the facility was closed to visitors and wound up getting arrested.

Thomas Walsh, 26, of Farmingdale, went to the jail after he left Nassau County Court, where his brother was not present for a short conference in his murder case. William Walsh Jr. is charged with killing his wife, Leah Walsh.

When Thomas Walsh was told that prisoners could not receive visitors on Mondays, he sneaked around to a side ramp and tried to get into the jail that way. When corrections officers tried to stop him, he tried to push past them and had to be subdued.

"It's ironic that someone would get locked up for trying to break into jail," Nassau police spokesman Kevin Smith said.http://www.newsday.com/news/local/crime/ny-libro045911256nov04,0,6989381.story

Ok, the brother is a fuckin' wingnut! WTH? Why would you try to sneak into the jail?

Even if he got into the building through the side ramp, what would he do once he was

A philandering husband allegedly strangled his wife to death, smeared her in peanut butter and dumped her body in a ditch hoping wild animals would devour the evidence, a report claims.
Something tells me this guy is not going to get the punishment he deserves. He's going to plead insanity, or it will be judged a crime of passion and he'll get something less than murder one.

Asshole has wounded my love of peanut butter, too.

William Walsh arrives at the Nassau County Courthouse where he was arraigned on additional charges in his wife Leah Walsh's murder. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Mattie Hirschel's sobs broke the silence in the courtroom Tuesday as her son-in-law pleaded not guilty in the slaying of her daughter, Leah Hirschel Walsh.

William Walsh, the accused killer who made headlines after authorities said he staged Leah Walsh's disappearance and made phony emotional appeals for her return, stood in a gray suit facing Judge David Ayres and never turned back to face his dead wife's parents, seated in the courtroom gallery.

In addition to the murder charge, Walsh pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence -- both charges that were added since his arrest in October.

After the brief court appearance, Walsh's attorney, William Petrillo of Rockville Centre, said only that he planned to put forth "a compelling and truthful defense to these allegations

According to the indictment handed down recently by a Nassau grand jury, Walsh was in possession of a knife around the time of the crime.

Prosecutor Michael Walsh would not say how prosecutors believe William Walsh used the knife, but a law enforcement source said police and prosecutors are still investigating whether Leah Walsh was stabbed before she died or afterward.

They are also looking at whether she was stabbed at their Bethpage apartment or in the woods near the Long Island Expressway north service road where her body was found, the source said. A knife has not been recovered, the law enforcement source said.

Police have said Walsh strangled his wife around Oct. 26 after the two had an argument about whether he was cheating on her. Walsh then hid her body in the woods, staged a disappearance and made phony emotional pleas for her safe return, police have said.

As Leah Walsh's body lay in their home, her husband ran errands to establish an alibi, police have said. He then drove his wife's black Ford Focus to a wooded area of North Hills and dumped the body, police said. Early on Oct. 27, he left the car by the side of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway -- letting air out of a tire to make it look as though she had a flat, police said.

Leah Walsh's body was found Oct. 28 by a worker at the North Hills Country Club. She was identified by detectives using fingerprints on file from a criminal-background check done when she became a teacher, police said.
