21-year-old Kristine Voss is being held for Attempted Second Degree Murder and placed on suicide watch at the Pueblo County Detention Center.
The two-year-old baby is okay, thanks to the help of the suspect's mother.
It began when a Pueblo County Sheriff's Deputy came across a truck that had crashed into two light poles on Hwy 78 just west of Pueblo. Voss was found inside the truck at the scene unharmed.
"It appeared she was trying to commit suicide," said Deputy Chief of Police, John Ercul.
Voss then told Police that she had just tried to kill her two-year-old daughter by smuggling her with a pillow. Luckily, she was interrupted by her mother, Jody Voss, the Director of a Pueblo Boys and Girls Club in Pueblo.
"The girls mother heard a commotion and entered the room. She quickly interrupted what her daughter was doing," said Ercul.
In an arrest affidavit obtained by NEWSCHANNEL 13, Voss said she didn't want her child to live anymore. It appears, it began when Voss received a text message from the baby's father, telling her that their relationship was over and that he wanted to marry another woman.
Right now police don't believe Voss was on any drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, although she may have not been taking her anti-depressant medication.
The truck that Voss crashed into the light pole was stolen from her mother's house on the 100 block of Stanford Avenue. It reportedly belonged to the Boys & Girls Club.
