The Holy Mountain
A Christlike figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. He meets a mystical guide who introduces him to seven wealthy and powerful individuals, each representing a planet in the solar system. These seven, along with the protagonist, the guide and the guide's assistant, divest themselves of their worldly goods and form a group of nine who will seek out the Holy Mountain, in order to displace the gods who live there and become immortal.

Topo, El
The gunfighter El Topo ("The Mole") and his young son ride through a desert to a village, whose inhabitants have been massacred. Bandits are nearby, torturing and killing the survivors. El Topo rescues a woman (Mara), who leads him on a mission to find and defeat the four master gunmen of the desert. Leaving his son with a group of monks, El Topo and Mara complete the mission, accompanied by a mysterious woman in black. The women leave El Topo wounded in the desert, where he is found by a clan of deformed people who take him to the remote cavern where they live. Awakening years later, he goes with a dwarf woman to a nearby town, promising to dig a tunnel through which the cave-dwellers can escape. They find the town run by a vicious sheriff and home to a bizarre religious cult. El Topo's son, now a man, is a monk in the town. The completion of the tunnel leads El Topo, the townspeople, and the cave-dwellers to a bloody and tragic end.

Fando and Lis
Loosely based on a play by Fernando Arrabal, one of Jodorowsky's performance-art collaborators.

Woke up to find this on my porch this morning (check to see if you got commission Killroy). It looks like a great set. It's actually 6 discs by the way and you can go here (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews30/Films_of_Alejandro%AD_Jodorowsky.htm) to check out DVD Beaver's comparison/review of the set. It's head and shoulders above previous editions.

Here is an entertaining review of the Box-Set. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32495

There are some spoilers in it but it's too good not to post. I watched El Topo last night with commentary. Great stuff.

I guess I will HAVE to own this. I already had the Italian releases of El Topo & Holy Mountain but will let them go for a nice price.

Great Jodorowsky interview and coverage, among other things, in the latest issue of Rue Morgue (#67).

I'll have to seek out that Magazine. It's hard to find Rue Morgue around here and I'm not sure I want to spend the money on the subscription. It's definitely the best horror mag though.

I actually snagged a copy of that Rue Morgue and the Jodorowsky article, I think, is one of the best they have ever written.

Pertaining to the DVD set, I've been meaning to pick it up but haven't found it anywhere. I'll have to break down and buy it online soon. The only film I've seen of his is Santa Sangre (I am a proud owner of the Region 2 release) and it really compelled me to delve into his other work.

After 1 viewing, I put El Topo in my Top 20 favorite movie list. After 1 viewing, I still don't know what to make of Holy Mountain. :)

I think it may require some psychedelic enhancements.

Yeah, Holy Mountain is fucking trippy as all hell. El Topo is terrific though. I still need to watch Holy Mountain again, and then I will check out the commentary.
