YouTube - The Strangers Theatrical Trailer

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet. I thought The Strangers was one hell of a disappointing movie. It definitely suffers from "trailer better than film" syndrome. I thought it was born, unimaginative, and easy to predict.

Big time pass on this one.

Agree on the easy to predict thing. As for a let down. Far from it. Yes, the film's parts were better than it's whole, but if there's one thing we get from this...it's that tension isn't dead. I can't wait to see what this director comes up with next. He's one of the few that seem to understand tension and atmosphere. Now, the story in this film could have used a HUGE shot of espresso.

Sorry Kyle but I liked it also! I'm a sucker for the home invasion films!
And this one was full of tention like Mikey B said!
I'm not a big Liv Tyler fan but she does a pretty good job, I thought!
Anyway, I pretty much like any Home Invasion, Road trip or Mutant Hillbilly flick! :sheep:

Personally... all the tension found in this movie was on my end. In the form of me just wanting to hit the eject button on my DVD Player.

This movie could have used a gigantic Jon Peters robotic spider in the 3rd act.

What can I say... I hated this movie quite a bit.

I was pretty disappointed by this movie as well. It just didn't do very much for me.

I sure liked the trailer, though.:cool2:

I saw the original and thought it was very good. When the "strangers" are revealed it actually shocked me...realizing it is based on true events made it more tragic. My husband and I spent hours talking about what we would have done differently. I'm looking forward to this version to compare.

I can't remember the directors name...want to say it is Italian...maybe? couldn't find info online.

The original? This isn't a remake.

I watched this a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty tense and unnerving. A lot of people complained about the lack of the plot, but the situation itself doesn't make any accomdiation for an embelishment of the motives for the strangers. That's why it worked for me, personally. It's scarier without any reason for their actions.

Well maybe it is not considered a remake but there is another VERSION based on this story based on actual events...
I did see it with my own eyes so I do know it exists.

I'm going to ask my husband about and get the info...he's the movie buff and showed the movie to me.

Yes, it is or at least it is another take on the Euro version. I saw it with my own EYES.

No it's not.

From IMDB-
According to director Bryan Bertino the film is partially based on an incident that happened to him as a child. One evening a stranger came to his door and asked for someone who wasn't there. The stranger left, but later Bertino found out that other homes in his neighborhood had been broken into that night.

EDIT:

These have nothing to do with it...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211130/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0242911/

They just have the same name.

Nope wrong movie Mikey, the movie I am referring to I don't believe has the same title...I'll get back and post later when I get the info...it does exist...I swear, and you actually might be interested in watching it to compare!

A lot of people think "The Strangers" is a remake or rip-off of "Ils". The latter of those two theories is somewhat understandable.

Oh God. I've seen Ils. No, it's not a remake of that either. Yes, the ideas are similar but that doesn't mean shit. Ils came out, I think, a year before The Strangers but he was writing The Strangers and trying to get it made for years, Ils came out quicker. So, there's similar story but nothing else. Just like Stephen King's book Cell and the film The Signal. About the same time, but not remakes of each other.

Yeah I have "Ils", and I'm not too big a fan of it either.

I actually preferred Ils, but the ending pissed me off.

The whole explaination in "Ils" ruined it for me. It felt tacked on and out of place. Would have been better with little to no explaination.

I know...if it was just a shot of the (people) getting on the (vehicle) it would have been awesome.

Just watched it-- the tension was great! Drove away 2 out of 3 teenagers (always a bonus) As stated above it was predictable, but kept the creepy factor =)
