It happened at a McCully apartment just after 4 a.m. Police say the victim was stabbed in her bedroom by a 19-year-old man. The woman's husband heard her screaming and ran into her bedroom. Police arrested a 19-year-old man as a suspect in the stabbing death of a 27-year-old woman early this morning in her apartment in the lower McCully area.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office today identified the victim of the fatal stabbing as Lyola Mesebeluu. An autopsy will be conducted on Monday to determine the cause of death, according to the medical examiner's office.

The woman's husband, 26, and 2-year-old daughter were injured in the incident.

Police Maj. Alan Blumeke said at 8:30 a.m. that the husband remains in serious condition and the toddler in stable condition with minor injuries at The Queen's Medical Center, where the woman was pronounced dead at 6:10 a.m.

Police arrested Sato Franklin Sigrah shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, two counts of attempted murder in the second degree and burglary in the first degree. He is still in police cellblock, although he has not been officially charged. All charges are felonies.

Blumeke said patrol officers were sent at 4:10 a.m. to the three-story walk-up apartment building at 2222 Kapiolani Blvd. on an argument call.

The husband told arriving police officers that he was awakened by his wife's screams. The 19-year old suspect was taken into custody at the scene about 4:30 a.m., Blumeke said.

"As far as we have been able to determine at this point, the suspect and the victims are not related," Blumeke said.

He said the suspect, who was later arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, "made entry into the unsecured apartment."

Police had not yet determined if the suspect was intending to burglarize the apartment, or what led to the stabbing.

Police homicide investigators were at the building at 8:30 a.m. interviewing other residents and surveying the scene.

Blumeke said a large kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.

As of 5:15 this morning a large number of police were congregated around the apartment building, between Hoawa and Paani streets.

Yellow "crime scene" tape cordoned off the building's parking lot.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said paramedics were summoned to a Kapiolani Boulevard address at 4:21 a.m. and treated the three victims. The man and the woman appeared to have multiple stab wounds, Cheplic said.

The woman, who appeared to be in her mid-20s was determined to be in critical condition, while the man, who is about the same age, was transported in serious condition, Cheplic said.

The child, who Cheplic described as a toddler, was reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries.

God only knows WTH his problem is. Could be anything, drugs, mental illness, some other addiction, money problems. But it still doesn't excuse his behavior. I just want to know how one goes from being an innocent child, to a murderer.

UCat, it's because I just moved to Hawaii. I noticed there are a TON of stories no one covered just because no one really LIVES in Hawaii. People come down to visit, but they never stay...therefore a lot of news goes unnoticed. ;P Now that I'm here, I'll post them. Hawaii is one of the worst crime states because of tourism and the laws.

Sato Sigrah, who is accused of stabbing a McCully woman to death and then using the knife on the victim's husband and 2-year-old daughter in an apparent burglary earlier this month, pleaded not guilty today in Circuit Court.

The 19-year-old Sigrah entered his plea to Circuit Judge Derrick Chan via remote television link from O'ahu Community Correctional Center. Sigrah stood next to a lawyer from the public defender's office during the appearance.

A trial date before Judge Michael Towne also was set today for Dec. 15.

Last week, he was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and burglary.

He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Sigrah was arrested in the apartment of his victims, Lyola Mesebeluu, 27, who died of multiple stab wounds Oct. 11.

Her husband, Keith Mesebeluu, 26, was awakened during the early morning attack, wrestled with Sigrah and was stabbed multiple times in the chest, prosecutors have said.

Prosecutors have said they will seek an extended prison term of life in prison without parole if Sigrah convicted.

The attack on the Mesebeluu family occurred shortly after 4 a.m. in their apartment building at 2222 Kapi'olani Blvd., in lower McCully.

The suspect allegedly entered through an unlocked front door, and neighbors said they heard someone trying a number of doors in the building before the attack.
