KAIMUKI (KHNL) - A 47-year-old man died in a moped accident early Tuesday morning.

It happened at 12:38 a.m. on Waialae Avenue in the Kaimuki area.

Police say he was traveling east bound near 14th street when he drifted off the roadway and slammed into a metal bus stop sign and then into a wooden light pole.

He suffered severe head injuries. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.

He was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he later died.

Police say alcohol is not a factor but speed may be a possible factor.

Yes, another accident from here...that is blamed on speeding...AGAIN. Riiiggghhhtttt....

LAHAINA, Maui (KHNL) - A U.S. Army soldier is dead following a car accident on Maui Monday night.

Police say 26-year-old Taylor Norris was traveling Kaanapali bound on Honoapiilani Highway at about 11:46 p.m. when his car rear-ended a motorcyclist.

Norris lost control of his car, veered off the road and slammed into two trees. His car then caught on fire. He died at the scene.

The motorcyclist, a 50-year-old Lahaina man, was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for his injuries and was later flown to Oahu. Police say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Norris was on leave while transferring from his station in South Korea for a new assignment in Texas.

Police are investigating whether speed, alcohol and the use of drugs are involved.

This is Maui County's 15th traffic fatality as compared to 17 the same time last year.

I think this was the motorcycles fault. Not because the guy that died is military, but because if you could SEE the way these people hit their brakes without a care in the world...you'd understand. Most of these people just slam on the brakes, go high speeds, drink while they drive etc. I think the motorcycle just slammed on the brakes, and the car behind him was going too fast to stop.

Eh who knows.
