PACIFIC PALISADES (KHNL) - An Oahu man's heart sank when he discovered his Pacific Palisades home was broken into and his beloved dogs were stolen.

Robert Houck and his wife consider the two dogs their babies. Now, the couple is frantically searching for them.

"This is nap time, Hawaiian style," Cynthia Houck said as she pointed to a photo.

Fighting back tears, Cynthia Houck shows off her precious scrapbook filled with photos and memories.

"This is them, the first day they met," she said about her two dogs. "And they're my babies."

Her babies are Zeus and Pele Girl.

"When they're excited, you hear them slipping and sliding on the floor," Robert Houck said.

But now, the home feels empty.

"The hard thing is you, you hear everything," Cynthia Houck said through tears.

Cynthia and her husband were running errands Monday, and say they were out of the house for just an hour-and-a-half.

"This is where we believe they came in because the screen was completely removed," Robert Houck said.

They say someone broke in and stole jewelry, electronic equipment and cash. Two-year-old Zeus and 10-month-old Pele Girl were also taken.

"The first thing I noticed is that my dogs didn't meet me at the door," Robert Houck said. "I wasn't focused on the material things. I was, you know, I was just in a panic over the dogs."

The Houcks, still numb following the burglary, are handing out and e-mailing thousands of fliers, hoping their Staffordshire Bull Terriers will be found.

"The worst scenarios will go through your mind," Robert Houck said. "One of the greatest attributes of these dogs is their tenacity. They don't give up, and we will not."

Police say they recovered fingerprints and are continuing their investigation.

If you see the dogs or have any information about this case, call Honolulu police.

So what would burglars do with two dogs, that are obviously being looked for?

Sell them for experimentation?

Sell them to someone willing to pay good money depending on the breed?

Maybe sacrifice them.

I dunno, people do sick shit with dogs. My aunt used to breed Keeshonds. She came to my place for about an hour and discovered a puppy was stolen from her home one day. We never recovered that puppy, and the puppy was sick, had seizures and was on medication..

We also had a litter of puppies who were smashed and stomped on right in her yard.

She also had people who had stole 3 9-week-old puppies right from her home in the middle of the day, while she was home. She was later notified that they were found starving and abandoned in a dumpster weeks later.

Hopefully the dogs are found safe and sound.

WAIKIKI (KHNL) - The hopes of a Pacific Palisades couple rise, as KHNL News 8 viewers call in tips about two stolen dogs.

"This is Pele and Zeus, and they were stolen from us," Cynthia Houck, burglary victim, told a pedestrian in Waikiki.

Houck hits Ala Wai Boulevard after people reported seeing her dogs, Zeus and Pele Girl, in the area.

"Everybody is just trying to help, people calling, asking if we found them," she said. "You know, they're all concerned. They're excited. They want to help."

We brought you the story of Cynthia and her husband Thursday. They say someone broke into their house Monday, and took jewelry, electronic equipment, and their beloved pets.

"Immediately after the 5 o'clock first show, 5:30, I got two calls," Cynthia Houck said. "And then all through the night, we had calls."

Cynthia says she received reports of sightings from McCully to Hawaii Kai.

"I'm very, very happy because the eyes are there," she said. "People are seeing. People are hearing."

She's confident she'll be reunited with her babies.

"What's the first thing you're going to do?" this reporter asked.

"I'm just going to hug them and call my baby, Pele Girl, and Zeus 'cause I know when I just call them, I don't care how far they are, I call them, they're going to run," she said through tears.

Zeus and Pele Girl are Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

"I'm going to be here," Houck said. "I'm going to wait for them."

Heh, forgot that link and quotes. People are calling in about seeing the dogs, but so far no luck.

I wonder if they were intimidated by the dogs and just opened the door and let them leave themselves to get them out of the way?

I also wonder if the burglars may have knew who they were robbing. If I saw two Staffordshires, I certainly would turn around and RUN. I would not even stick around to see if they were friendly and would let me in. So it would seem they may have been familiar with these dogs and the dogs may have been familiar with them.

These are Staffordshire Bull Terriers They are really not all that common in the US and I bet even less common on the Islands.

They are not American Staffordshire Terriers as we know here in the US.
These dogs are small and compact sort of remind you or a mini bull dog. They are a little larger than a Ole English Bulldog a little larger than the French bull dog.

They are actually very loving dogs. Which is why back in older day England they were used as a nanny for many kids. Though thr breed is also known for protecting those children.
However as with ANY breed The dog is what the owner makes it. These dogs were loved and spoiled and they likely greeted the people breaking in with kisses.

I do so hope they get these babies back. Maybe they are micro chipped and will be found.
Sending up prayers they make it home. I would absolutly die is something happened to my Wooty.

Considering how hard it is to get any type of pet through customs here, I don't doubt that they stole the pet to breed or resell them. My own cat isn't even here for another 4 months cause of the paperwork.

I'm pretty sure if they were microchipped, they wouldda been found already. Since they keep reporting the story over and over again, I doubt that they were chipped.
