GREENSBORO - A female pit bull ate several her puppies after a man allegedly abandoned the dogs without food and water for days at a Greensboro home, according to court records.

Damien Toyata Lamar McDaniels, 30, of 207 W. Whittington Road was charged Thursday with one count of misdemeanor cruelty to animals according to an arrest warrant filed at the Guilford County Magistrate's Office.

McDaniels is accused of abandoning the mother dog and nine puppies at a home at his former residence at 1100 Hickory Ave. sometime between Sept. 25 and Oct. 2, warrants state.

The warrant, written by an officer with Guilford County Animal Control states the female dog "was abandoned by the owner and deprived of food and water and as a result consumed some of her puppies."

Some of the other puppies were found inside a shed without food and water and also died.

The warrant does not say whether any of the dogs survived.

McDaniels was released from the Guilford County jail on a written promise to appear in court.
