An Omaha mother has been charged with child neglect after she took off to Kentucky, leaving her 7- and 10-year old alone.

Police have put the children into state custody.

Investigators said the two children last remembered seeing their mom, Natina Bass, at 9 p.m. last Thursday.

After a day at school on Friday, the children came home to Greenridge Apartments near 99th and Fort streets.

Their mother was gone and the door was locked, said Omaha police officer Jacob Bettin.

The children walked to the leasing office to get a key. The agent questioned why the two didn't have a key and the whereabouts of their mother.

The kids said she drove to Kentucky. The agent called police.

Bass told police she had driven to Kentucky to pick up some medical records that had suddenly became available.

She said she left the children in someone's care, but police said that wasn't the case.

Bass could face a year in jail and a fine for each of the neglect charges.

Few ways to get those "medical records"...email, fax, mail...I'm sure there are others. Do they require you to drive outta state for it? Nope. When I lost my birth certificate I faxed them my social card and all the information I needed for another one. I got mine sent in the mail.

Booty call!!

Reminds me of this case---and I wonder what ever became of those girls. My youngest was born the year this happened.

No, you simply don't understand. The 10 year old was watching the 7 year old. Stupid kids, mom woulda been back in a couple a weeks....quit cher whinin...
Anyway, why do children keep picking irresponsible parents? If they chose wisely this wouldn't happen.
And, it's my understanding that their mom just needed to take some time off. Now, did the kids mention "full time parent" when they advertised for one?
(yeah... I AM being sarcastic....she don't need kids if she isn't planning on taking care of them for at least 18 years....dumbass...)

She's back in the news...now she left her 6-yr old locked in her car with water but no food, while she worked TWO 8-hr shifts at the hospital. She's now lost custody of all FIVE of her children.

OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha woman accused of locking one of her children in a car while she went to work has lost custody of all five of them.

A 6-year-old girl told a child welfare investigator that Natina Bass left her in a car in the Methodist Hospital parking lot on Oct. 14 and 15.

According to court records obtained by KETV NewsWatch 7, the girl said she was told to "lie in the back of the car and not look out the window." The girl said that Bass told her that looking out the window increased the chances that someone would see her and would get the girl sent to foster care.

The child said she had water in the car but no food during her mother's two eight-hour shifts.

All five of Bass' children are now in foster care, pending a hearing in juvenile court next month.

Jeez, it's like she woke up one morning and said, "I'm tired of being a mom. What's the fastest way to get 'em out of my hair with the least possible effort?" (Thank goodness that at this point killing them seemed like too much work.)
