The South Pittsburg High School band teacher resigned Friday after learning he was the target of an investigation by several agencies.
Gene Walsh voluntarily resigned from the school after teaching there for four years Friday morning.
According to authorities, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol Criminal Investigations Division, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Immigration and Custom Enforcement served a federal search warrant at Walsh’s home.
According to Gene Hargis, an investigator with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Walsh is being investigated for internet related crimes, but he could not go into detail about the crimes.
Authorities seized Walsh’s computer along with other electronic media, according to Hargis.
“The investigation is still on going,” said Hargis. “Walsh has not been arrested. There is no indication of any wrong doing involving students from any Marion County school.”
“To my knowledge, this is an ongoing investigation and no charges have been filed,” said Marion County Director of Schools Mark Griffith. “Everything in (Walsh’s) file was clean. He gave no reason for his resignation.”
