Woman Charged With Leaving Baby On Trash Pile
http://cbs2chicago.com/local/baby.abandoned.charges.2.841945.html
Garcia allegedly told police she had concealed her pregnancy and birth from her mother. She admitted leaving the baby in a flood debris pile in Franklin Park about 3 a.m. on Sept. 30 after driving around for several hours.
The baby -- dubbed Baby Jessica -- was found about 8:30 a.m. by trash scavengers who reported finding a female Hispanic infant, approximately 2 weeks old, resting in a garbage pile. The bitch also has a 22 month old son. DCFS is looking in on him. The baby appeared to be in good condition but Illinois does have safe haven laws. You are allowed to leave an infant up to 7 days old at any hospital or fire station. Bitch sure made a wrong choice on this one. As much as I hate the scavangers picking through my garbage, I'm glad they were out this day. Good luck to you baby Jessica. Rough start kid. :(

Thank God the baby is alive. WTF??? They just LEFT the 22 month old with the bitch? I don't CARE if they are "looking in" on the other baby. THIS worthless bitch isn't to be trusted with a child! Shit, in SEVERAL HOURS of driving around she didn't hear the baby crying? She did NOT have any human emotions that this was a tiny vulnerable HUMAN? She STILL left this helpless baby to DIE in a heap of garbage! She could have taken the baby to a surrender site at ANY time during those SEVERAL HOURS! I wouldn't trust her with another child...

Since she had a child born 22 months ago, I am pretty certain she knew about being able to drop off the baby at a hospital.
Cripes! She had a car!
Found an interesting link you guys may want to bookmark.
It's for the national safehaven alliance (NSHA).

All 50 states now have Safe Haven/Baby Moses Laws in effect.

Update:
Police had said the woman they were seeking had gone into labor on the street and given birth in an ambulance.
Both the mother and baby were admitted to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The mother was released Sept. 18, the baby on Sept. 29 to the care of her mother. Police said it was after that Adriana Garcia abandoned the infant, who is now in foster care.

Seems like this happens occasionally. A baby two weeks old would not last too long exposed. Instead of reckless endangerment of the life of a child, it is blurring the lines and crossing into attempted murder. Guess it depends on the intent. would be interesting to look at that from a legal perspective.

I am just thankful that the baby girl is alive. The mom could have killed her and hid her deep within the trash bin. I think she put her on the very top so that someone would find her. Usually at hospitals, there is camera's and is the same with some fire and police stations; maybe she didn't want to be seen leaving the baby for fear that her mom would find out that she had another kid. I still think she should be punished for her crime, even in this situation.

So happy the baby girl is alive and well...so many die before being discovered others die and no one ever knows they even existed. What a shame when a mother can leave a child in a safe-haven location.
I think in some cases a mother may not get the message about these laws if she is not fluent in English. I wonder if this was the case with this mother. Clearly she didn't want this baby but to leave her in a pile of trash is so sad...babies are not trash...I could say this until my face turns blue...
Kisses little one... recover and be loved.

I do not understand why these young people cannot go to a hospital or firestation to drop off their baby. It makes no sense and why choose a dump, trash can area? That woman should not be allowed to keep her 22 month old. No telling what she might be capable of and I do hope they are watching her closely.
