Missing Ex-Teacher Sought in Child Pornography Case
A law enforcement task force targeting child pornography has obtained an arrest warrant for a missing former teacher at a prestigious school on the grounds of Washington National Cathedral, alleging that sexually oriented photographs of at least one young boy were found on a school camera in his possession, according to authorities and the school.
The suspect, Eric Toth, 26, was a third-grade teacher at the 386-student Beauvoir school for three academic years, until a fellow teacher found the alleged pornographic images on the camera in early June, Paula J. Carreiro, the head of the school, said today. She said Toth was escorted off the cathedral grounds and the camera was given to authorities.
Toth's Honda car was found in August, parked in a garage at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, said D.C. police Sgt. Morani Hines, a member of the FBI's Washington area Innocent Images Task Force. Hines said a note in the car suggested that Toth planned to kill himself in a nearby lake, but no body has been found.
Based on an investigation that began when the task force received the camera, Hines said, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Toth on a federal charge of possessing child pornography.
Hines declined to say how many images were on the camera, how many boys had been photographed, whether the pictures had been taken at the school, or whether anyone whose image was on the camera was enrolled at Beauvoir.
Carreiro said Toth, who lived in Montgomery County, underwent a "very thorough" background check before he started teaching at Beauvoir in the 2005-06 school year. She said he was one of eight teachers for about 80 boys and girls in the third grade.
Beauvoir, part of the National Cathedral Foundation, educates youngsters from pre-kindergarten through third grade. Tuition for the current school year is $25,970, plus a $700 registration fee, Beauvoir's Web site says. The foundation also oversees St. Albans School for boys and National Cathedral School for girls.

If he planned to kill himself, why park his car at an airport? They better check flights to Thailand.

A 30-year-old former school teacher who allegedly produced child pornography has replaced former Al Qaeda chief Usama bin Laden on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list.
Eric Justin Toth, who has used the alias "David Bussone," is wanted for his alleged production and possession of child pornography in Washington, D.C., and Maryland, authorities said Tuesday. A $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading directly to his arrest. An FBI official said the list is sometimes incomplete for lengthy periods because replacing a captured former fugitive entails examining a host of factors, including whether the bureau has run out of all other options in attempting to find the suspect. In this case, another man being considered for the list was captured, which set the process back even more.
The investigation into Toth began in 2008 when pornographic images of children were allegedly found on a school camera that was in his possession.
The FBI said in a press release that Toth, a former private school teacher and camp counselor, has eluded authorities and is believed to have traveled to various states since 2008, including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota. He is also suspected of living in Arizona in 2009.
The fugitive, whom investigators describe as a "computer expert," may be advertising online as a tutor or male nanny, authorities said.
"He has the ability to integrate into various socio-economic classes, and is an expert at social engineering," the FBI said. "Toth possesses an educational background conducive to gaining employment in fields having a connection to children.[...] http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/10/30-year-old-alleged-child-porn-producer-replaces-bin-laden-on-fbi-most-wanted/?intcmp=trending#ixzz1rfee5RFx

Eric Justin Toth, the former D.C. elementary school teacher and accused child pornographer who replaced Osama bin Laden on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, has been found in Nicaragua, according to sources familiar with the case.
Toth had been on the run for almost five years. He fled after officials at Washington National Cathedral’s exclusive Beauvoir elementary school found explicit photos of a student on a camera assigned to him, authorities said.
Toth was taken into custody Saturday night in Nicaragua, but as of Monday afternoon he had not been extradited to the United States, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because Toth was not in the custody of U.S. law enforcement.
Police have been looking for Toth since June 2008, when Beauvoir officials found the explicit photos, confronted him,and then had him escorted to the end of the cathedral driveway.
They called police that day, but it was too late.
Last year, the FBI upgraded Toth from a local most-wanted list and named him one of the country’s most notorious fugitives. His face was plastered on bus stops and billboards in the D.C. area and nationwide, including in Manhattan’s Times Square.
At the time, FBI officials said they gave him such notoriety because they thought that he was a threat to children and that the description of him — thin, 6-foot-3, green eyes and a mole under his left eye — might be enough to help someone identify him.
It took about a year from that time until last weekend, when authorities caught up with him in Central America.
Toth had been a third-grade teacher at Beauvoir for three years.
He is accused of taking sexually explicit photographs of a boy at the victim’s home in the summer of 2007, according to the FBI and court documents.
He also is accused of installing a video camera in his third-grade class’s bathroom and using it to record his students.
Toth has been indicted on charges of producing child pornography. Authorities say there is evidence that he also molested at least one child, but he has not been charged with such an offense. Warrants have been issued for his arrest in the District and in Maryland, and some of the charges have been sealed.
Some Beauvoir parents have said the teacher sometimes spent nights in his classroom closet and lavished attention on certain 8- and 9-year-old boys, holding them on his lap.
The parents said it was common knowledge that Toth was entwined in the lives of Beauvoir students — particularly male students — and sometimes in unusual ways. He babysat and tutored them, at times for free. He slept at their houses as a babysitter when parents were away and was a guest at one boy’s home for weeks.
He chose favorites so blatantly that children called some classmates “Tothies.”
The FBI has tracked some of his movements since the June 2008 day school officials found his camera with explicit photos. That afternoon, he withdrew cash in Arlington County and arrived the following day at his family’s home in Hammond, Ind., where he stayed for a day or two.
The next day, he bought a cellphone and Global Positioning System device from a Circuit City store in Madison, Wis. A day later, he drove a Honda sedan to a long-term parking lot at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Inside the car, he left a bogus suicide note indicating that police could find his body in a nearby lake.
On Aug. 1, 2008, officials noticed the Honda had surpassed the allowable number of days in the parking area. They found the note, as well as explicit images police say might date to his time at a summer camp in Wisconsin.
A year later, Toth turned up in Phoenix at a homeless shelter and rehabilitation facility. He used the name David Bussone, a man he met in Phoenix, and told people at the shelter that he had taken a vow of poverty and that he was living a Spartan life.
He was volunteering there as a tutor when someone who had seen him featured on the TV show “America’s Most Wanted” called police. Toth vanished before officers arrived.

After being spotted by a sharp-eyed tourist in Nicaragua, fugitive Eric Justin Toth was back in the District of Columbia on Tuesday facing child pornography charges, including an accusation that he shot explicit video of a young boy inside Washington National Cathedral's Beauvoir elementary school.
Toth, 31, met the tourist at a "social engagement" on April 18 in Nicaragua, said Valerie Parlave, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office.
"She was on vacation or other travel, and she met him and realized who he was," Parlave said, adding the woman recognized him from media reports.
On Saturday in Nicaragua, Toth spoke briefly to a reporter as he was taken from his home by police, seeming confused when the reporter asked in Spanish why he was being arrested, according to a video on a Nicaraguan news website.
"Crime?" Toth said in Spanish. "I haven't committed a crime."
Nicaraguan police said he had been living in Esteli, Nicaragua, under the name of Robert Shaw Walker and had a forged U.S. passport with "Texas" on it, falsified driver's license and credit cards. He had been in Nicaragua on and off since October 2012, allegedly at times working with youths, police said.
Tall and lanky, Toth is recognizable by a mole under his left eye. Nicaraguan police said in a news release that he hid the mole by wearing an eye patch in public.
During a news conference in Nicaragua on Monday, Aminta Granera, commissioner of the National Police, said there was no evidence that any Nicaraguan children had been victimized.
Authorities said they were able to find Toth after an extensive investigation that involved hundreds of tips. "You can't run far enough to get away from federal law enforcement," Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein said.
I'm not sure I would have recognized him but I suck at "facial recognition". Sure glad someone is good at it!
