2-year old Tangena Hussain was with her mother's boyfriend at a gas station when she disappeared.
The boyfriend left the child in the car as he ran into the gas station to make a purchase. When he returned to the car the child was gone.

The girl is described as East Indian with light brown complexion.

She is 35 lbs. with black shoulder length hair. She was last seen wearing a long sleeve brown t-shirt and white nylon cargo pants.

If you have any information call the Detroit Police Department at (313) 596-1240.

Seriously, how many times does this have to be said, even if you are running in for just a few seconds take your child with you! Yeah, it is a little more work, but we know that a few seconds is all it takes for a child to be kidnapped!
Praying for a safe and speedy return of this child!

Additional info:

When he returned, the girl was gone, Detroit police said. The man did not check the area for the girl, police said. The man told investigators his car was locked at the time the girl went missing.

The man and Tangena were on their way to pick up Tangena's 24-year-old mother, also a Hamtramck resident, from work at Northland Mall. The boyfriend had the child when he dropped his girlfriend off at work about 2 p.m., police said.

After discovering the girl was gone, the boyfriend drove to the mall and picked up Tangena's mother, police said. The authorities were not contacted until the mother's boss told her she should do so, police said.

After reporting the girl missing, the had gone back to the gas station and looked for the missing child, gas station patron Michelle King, told Detroit News reporting partner WXYZ-TV (Channel 7). King said the mother seemed distraught, but the boyfriend seemed calm.

"He had no expression on his face," King said of the boyfriend. "It was like nothing was wrong."

How well does the mother know the boyfriend? And for how long? What's his history? I IMMEDIATELY had the thought "it's the boyfriend" go through my head. I have a really bad feeling.

The first I heard about this was on the news last night. I turned to my husband and said, "Bullshit. That boyfriend did something with that baby." Are we all more perceptive or are we just more cynical?

Police said Tangena lived with Begum and her boyfriend, who have dated about five months, in Hamtramck. Begum has two other children, ages 8 and 7, who live with their father's family in metro Detroit. Tangena's father, who is also the father of Begum's other two children, lives in New York.

Hamtramck Police tells FOX 2 News that the man last seen with the missing two-year-old is now in police custody.

Niiufa Begum's boyfriend, Jamrul Hussain, was arrested for unrelated case.

He is currently being interviewed by Hamtramck Police, but they are not saying whether or not it's about the unrelated case or the missing two-year-old.

The boyfriend..my first thought too, his behavior is very suspicious. How convenient that the security camera had a video glitch...damn, of all the times!

So heart breaking for the mother, "Please help me get my baby back. She's only 2 years old. She needs her mommy,"... I hope I never have to speak those words.

Tangena you are in my prayers.

Given that Jamrul Hussain has now been arrested in a separate case of sexual assault against a minor, I think he's good for this. I'm front paging the case anyway. She deserves some press - I hope they find her alive, but it doesn't look good.

“The case stems back from February of this year. There was an allegation made, and the victim happened to see the individual's photo on the news yesterday, and based on that, she came forward,” said Hamtramck Police Detective Mike Szymanski.

A 15-year-old girl made the allegations against Hussain. The charges against him have not been announced, but sources said they could include felonies. Hussain may be arraigned as early as Monday afternoon.

Police said Jamrul told them he stopped at the gas station before picking up Begum from work at about 9 p.m., and left the girl fastened in his red Geo Prizm while he went inside.

When he returned, the girl was gone, police said.

Police said Jamrul left the gas station and drove to pick up Begum from work at Northland Mall.

"I was asking, 'Where's my daughter; tell me where's my daughter?' and he couldn't even say anything," said Begum.

"He said, 'I will tell you; just come with me,' and he took me to the gas station," she said.

Begum said Jamrul told her he was buying the child gum and juice and when he came out the 2-year-old was gone.

"I said, 'What do you mean she's not inside; why didn’t you call the cops?'" said Begum. "He said, 'I was scared, and I wanted to get you first.'"

“The mother was distraught, but the guy just didn’t really seem, well, his face was blank. It was more like an everyday occurrence to him,” said witness Frederick Panell. “I wouldn’t have thought that something was wrong if the mother wasn’t as hysterical and crying as she was.”

Gas station owner Phid Onwuzrike said, “I was distraught and disappointed and outright upset that such a thing could happen, if it did happen, here.”

Surveillance tapes from the gas station were handed over to authorities, but investigators said a technical glitch prevented Jamrul’s car and the child from being seen. Investigators said Jamrul was filmed entering the store.

Police dogs searched the Hamtramck home Begum shares with Hussain and also searched Jamrul’s mother's house on the Detroit-Hamtramck border, but said they were unable to find any clues into the girl's disappearance.

Sources close to the police’s investigation said polygraph tests were administered but would not confirm to who or the results.

Police said Jamrul and Begum are cooperating with the investigation. The FBI has also become involved.

Begum, who is reportedly staying with family, told Local 4 Sunday that she does not believe Jamrul has anything to do with her daughter's disappearance.

Begum also said she has not slept for the past three days.

"Please help me get my baby back. She's only 2 years old. She needs her mommy," said Begum.

The girl is described as East Indian with a light-brown complexion.

She is 35 pounds with black, shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved brown T-shirt and white nylon cargo pants.

Update...Tangena Hussains father offers $5000 reward
Tangena Hussains father, Mohammed Ahmed, who lives in New York, has offered $5000 for information leading to finding Tangena. This makes the total reward $6000.
Tangenas mother, Nilufa Begum, has voluntarily taken a lie detector test (results not disclosed). AND, per Tangenas mother and her prick boyfriend, Jamrul Hussain (no relation) NO ONE EXCEPT THEM HAD SEEN TANGENA FOR TWO WEEKS B-E-F-O-R-E SHE DISAPPEARED!
Sounds fishy to me.

I'm STILL looking every day for updates. And I still wonder if she was even ALIVE for the previous two weeks...since the police have stated that...according to Ms. Begum and Mr Hussain...they were the ONLY ones to have seen this child in the 2 WEEKS prior to her supposed disappearance at the gas station.
Secondly, I just LOVE checking out the cameras and screen shots when I'm in a store that has them. They are usually located (if there is a screen) next to the cashier. I'll bet that Mr Pedophile Hussain (currently up on charges of kidnapping and raping a 14 year old girl) knew exactly where he could and could not be photographed on the camera. He purposely parked out of camera range. The child was probably not even in the car, in fact, I'll BET that she was not in the car that night.

Given that Jamrul Hussain has now been arrested in a separate case of sexual assault against a minor, I think he's good for this. I'm front paging the case anyway. She deserves some press - I hope they find her alive, but it doesn't look good.

Charges were dropped against the homeowner but Hussain is still in jail.

http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/17922687/detail.html

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. -- All charges have been dropped against a couple accused of helping a 24-year-old man kidnap and rape a 15-year-old girl.

Charges were dropped against two of the three people accused in the case.

The teenage girl told police Jamrul Hussain, 24, kidnapped and sexually and physically assaulted her.

The girl went to police about the incident after she saw Hussain on television in a missing 2-year-old girl case. An Amber Alert is still in effect for Tangena Hussain. Jamrul Hussain was dating the missing child's mother, but is not related to the child. He was the last person to see the child on Oct. 2 at a Detroit gas station, police said.

According to court documents, the 15-year-old told police earlier in the year Hussain kidnapped her at gunpoint from her parents' Hamtramck home, drove around for several hours, then held her hostage for one week in a Hamtramck home.

The charges were dropped against the homeowners, Hussain's friends, Mammur Khan and his wife, Hena Begum. However, Khan remains in an immigration holding cell until the case is cleared up.

Begum said the last month has been a nightmare for her and her family.

Khan and Begum's attorney Whitney Lemelin said, "My clients simply had nothing to do with the kidnapping whatsoever."

Lemelin added the Indian couple moved here in search of the American dream. They have an 8-month-old child and are trying to buy a business.

Smith said the teen has accused Hussain of kidnapping and rape as a spurned ex-lover and new evidence has been revealed that questions the teen's credibility.

"The whole case has been gutted. They have a complaining witness who has apparently lied about somebody kidnapping them, she lied about somebody holding a gun to her head and she lied about being held in a basement. I mean, that's the majority of the case," said Smith.

Smith has asked a judge for a postponement in Hussain's case so he can sort out the teen's story. The judge agreed and set another hearing for Hussain on Nov. 20.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Two-year-old Tangena Hussain vanished three months ago in the Detroit suburb of Hamtramck, Michigan, and police say the trail has gone cold.
Tangena Hussain, 2, has been missing since October 2 and police in Michigan are asking for the public's help.

Tangena Hussain, 2, has been missing since October 2 and police in Michigan are asking for the public's help.

Tangena's mother called police on the evening of October 2, 2008, to report her daughter missing after frantically searching the area where she was last seen.

The child's mother, Nilufa Begum, told police she had left the girl in the care of her boyfriend, Jamrul Hussain. Although Tangena and Hussain have the same last name, he is not her father.

Begum told investigators her daughter was with Hussain all day while she worked at the Northland Mall. Hussain said he stopped at a gas station with Tangena while on the way to the mall to pick up Begum.

They stopped at about 9 p.m. to buy gum and juice, he said. Hussain told police he left Tangena in the car for only a few moments and when he returned, the little girl was gone.

He did not call police and did not conduct a search, but instead drove to the mall and picked up Begum, investigators said.

When she saw Tangena was not with Hussain, Begum asked him where she was. His response was cryptic, she told police. He said he would take her to the place where her daughter was.

Begum became alarmed as Hussain drove to a gas station where, he said, Tangena disappeared. They searched for Tangena together, while Begum called the police to report her daughter missing.

A surveillance camera shows the boyfriend, Hussain, going into the gas station's store, police said. On the video, he makes some purchases and leaves within a few minutes. But there is no video of the area where Hussain parked his car, nor any video that could show whether the little girl had been there or how she might have disappeared.

Police have not named a person of interest in the toddler's disappearance.

When the media picked up the story, a teenager came forward, saying she recognized Hussain as the man who allegedly attacked her. During the investigation, police discovered that the young accuser, then 15, had been Hussain's prior girlfriend.

Hussain, 24, was arrested and charged with two counts of having sex with a minor. He is free on bail while awaiting trial.

"My client is innocent of the charges. He did not have sex with a minor child," said Hussain's lawyer, Shawn Patrick Smith.

Tangena's parents said they just want answers. Her father, Mohammad Ahmed, lives in New York and added $5,000 to an existing Crimestopper's reward of $1,000.

yeah, sadly this case did not meet the missing white girl criteria. i live in the metro detroit area and this did seem to just fall off the radar pretty quick. my mom was really bothered by this particular case, she said she would write a letter to the Detroit Free Press about the lack of coverage/missing white girl thing but what good does that do. it's not fair how cases involving minorities/boys never get as much attention but it happens over and over again.

ever since i heard there was no video of the little girl or the car at the service station i've suspected the boyfriend. his whole story and actions sound like a crafted excuse. and of course the other charges don't speak well of his character. the hair in the bag is very creepy, i hope the test results are back soon so that they'll be that much closer to getting some justice for this poor girl.

I think he did it, too.

Another report said he took a lie detector test as well, so I look forward to seeing those results.

The search said this is from April 14th, and indicates lie detector test wasn't clear.
http://www.hamtramckcitizen.com/news/doubts-rise-over-missing-girls-fate

At one point, it looked like Jamrul Hussain was going to crack and tell all about what happened to missing 5-year-old Tangena Hussain.

But his attorney managed to rein in his client and the talk ended. Hussain’s subsequent lie detector test resulted in a failure to determine anything. His attorney said although his client is willing to take the test, his nerves were too shot.

Another lie detector test also broke down because Hussain, 24, who shares the same surname with Tangena but they are not related, could not keep himself composed.

At his preliminary examination a couple of months ago, he looked emotionally wrought and teared up frequently.

Hussain’s story is a tangled one. He was dating Tangena’s mother for several months but before dating her he was with a 15-year-old girl. At the same time Tangena went missing, the girl accused Hussain of kidnapping her and holding her prisoner in a basement of friends.

Hussain and his friends, a married couple, were charged with kidnapping and rape. But those accusations crumbled when it became apparent that the girl’s story was not credible and that she appeared to be a case of a jilted ex-lover.

But Hussain is still facing a charge of having sex with a minor. That case is scheduled for a jury trial in the next several weeks in Wayne County Circuit Court.

His attorney insists the charge is being trumped up in order for investigators to keep Hussain in jail and in this country while they investigate the Tangena case.

Even if you buy that allegation, Hussain’s story doesn’t add up for many. Last Oct. 2, Hussain drove off with Tangena to pick up her mother at Northland Mall, where she works. On the way there, Hussain stopped at a gasoline station at Greenfield and Eight Mile, parked the car out of camera range and left Tangena alone with the doors locked.

He told investigators he stopped to get chewing gum. When he returned to the car a couple of minutes later, Tangena was gone.

Some investigators don’t believe Tangena was ever in the car. Instead of immediately calling police, Hussain said he panicked and continued driving to pick up Tangena’s mother. Once he told her the story, Tangena’s mother then called police.

Later, investigators searched several houses, telling the press they were looking for anything that could lead to Tangena’s whereabouts – including her dead body.

But those searches apparently yielded little to nothing – at least at this point.

There has been plenty of speculation about what happened to the child.

Was she kidnapped?

Was she sold?

Was she handed off to another family because her mother was divorced from her husband?

Or, did Hussain kill the child?

Oddly, the Bangladesh community has not united and come forward in this case like it did for a Bangladeshi immigrant who was shot and killed several months later.

Investigators say they have been stymied by the Bangladesh community, which investigators say has put up a wall of silence and conflicting answers.

As weeks turn to months, at least one investigator, who didn’t want to speak on record, said it is likely that Tangena met with foul play.

Yeah, I have to say, it strikes me that one of several things could've happened to this child. None of them are pleasant and the child is probably not what we think of as "safe", but we may never know.

The only way that I would let the killer back into my life, would be waiting till he was sleeping, then make him vanish.....forever.

Tangena, who turned 3 on April 10, has been missing since Oct. 2, and after six months, the original Amber Alert remains in effect because police have no clues to her whereabouts.

"I talked to Tangena's mom recently; she's not doing too good," said her attorney, Shawn Patrick Smith.

"She's feeling more hopeless than she ever has, but as long as there's no bad news, there's always the possibility of good news. That's the only thing that's keeping her going."

Police say there have been no breaks in the case.

"The investigation is still open, but we haven't gotten any new leads," Detroit Police spokeswoman Eren Stephens Bell said.

The FBI has offered a $20,000 reward for information about the girl's whereabouts. But so far, no clues have emerged.

The case has taken several odd twists since Tangena disappeared. Jamrul Hussain, the boyfriend of Tangena's mother, Nilufa Begum, was the last person seen with the toddler.

Hussain, who is not related to the girl, although they share the same surname, told police she disappeared when he stopped at a Detroit gas station to buy a pack of gum while on his way to pick up Begum from her job at a Northland Mall clothing store.

Hussain was arrested after a 15-year-old girl called police when she saw him on a television news report about Tangena's disappearance. The girl told investigators that Hussain had kidnapped her eight months earlier and took her to the Hamtramck home of Mamunur Rahman Khan and his wife, Hena Begum (no relation to Tangena's mother), where the teen said she was imprisoned in the basement for a week and repeatedly raped by Hussain.

Detectives say the girl told police in February that she'd ran away with Hussain, after her father reported her missing.

But the teen later admitted she lied because Hussain had threatened to kill her family, police said.

I couldn't get the audio to work on that video. The commercial part works fine but once it goes into the FOX video piece, no audio.....sucks. Couldn't find it elsewhere on a FOX source.

"We are praying that someone knows something that can help us find my daughter," Ahmed said. "How can a child disappear without someone seeing something? Something doesn't fit about [Hussain's] story."

Yeah, I'd say nothing about this story makes much sense. I don't think little Tangena is alive. 'm hoping I'm wrong on that, but now, I'm just waiting for news that she is found. Alive would be great, but I don't think that's going to happen. Where are you Tangena?

Cell Of Man Linked To Missing Tot Searched
DETROIT - Tests are being done on human hair that was discovered in the jail cell of a man who was the last person to see a missing metro Detroit 2-year-old.
Jamrul Hussain was the last person to see Tangena Hussain before she disappeared on Oct. 2 last year.
Hussain is not the girl's father, but the boyfriend of her mother, Nilufa Begum.
Hussain told police the girl disappeared from his locked car at a gas station that he had stopped at before picking up Begum from work.
Police have questioned and given Hussain polygraphs but he has never been charged in connection with the toddler's disappearance.
Hussain is in the Wayne County Jail because a 15-year-old accused him of kidnapping and raping her.
Those charges have fallen apart since the teenager's story has changed, but Hussain remains in jail awaiting trial on reduced charges of having sex with a minor.
A search of Hussain's cell Friday also turned up a shank -- a piece of metal fashioned into a weapon.
The hair was found in a small plastic bag.
Authorities said they are not sure whose hair it is, how it got there or why it's there.
The reward for information into the toddler's disappearance stands at $6,000.

yeah, sadly this case did not meet the missing white girl criteria. i live in the metro detroit area and this did seem to just fall off the radar pretty quick. my mom was really bothered by this particular case, she said she would write a letter to the Detroit Free Press about the lack of coverage/missing white girl thing but what good does that do. it's not fair how cases involving minorities/boys never get as much attention but it happens over and over again.

ever since i heard there was no video of the little girl or the car at the service station i've suspected the boyfriend. his whole story and actions sound like a crafted excuse. and of course the other charges don't speak well of his character. the hair in the bag is very creepy, i hope the test results are back soon so that they'll be that much closer to getting some justice for this poor girl.

Just wanted to update this story,,tomorrow on a special Americas Most Wanted all missing children they will do a feature on Tangina. Also the FBI today finally took over the case and started by offering a $20,000.00 reward.

Detroit area man, last man to see a missing Hamtramck toddler alive, sentenced in statutory rape case January 14, 2010, 2:13PM

A Detroit area man who's the last known person to have seen a Bangladeshi girl before her 2008 disappearance has been sentenced in an unrelated rape case.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says that 25-year-old Jamrul Hussain received 18 months to 15 years in prison Thursday for third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

A jury found him guilty last month of statutory rape involving a 15-year-old girl.

Hussain told police in October 2008 that then-2-year-old Tangena Hussain disappeared from his car at a Detroit gas station.

Jamrul Hussain isn't her father but lived with her mother in the Detroit enclave of Hamtramck. No one's been charged in the case.

The Associated Press left a message seeking comment from Jamrul Hussain's attorneyhttp://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2010/01/detroit_area_man_last_man_to_s.html

I was just thinking of little Tangena, after watching AMW on baby Gabriel which was no more than a blurb. She's such a beauty. I am afraid she was sold in the baby trafficking world. The alternative is no better but dammit, I want to know!

I've been thinking of her recently. Baby Gabriel's case reminds me of her. And yet, no new leads....so frustrating.
Hopefully Jamrul will talk to other inmates about this case while he's locked up. And hopefully someone will let LE know what he is saying. And, hopefully, he'll get an asskicking every day until he tells.

Man Tied To Missing Child Case Loses Appeal On Sex Conviction (http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2011/11/11/man-tied-to-missing-child-case-loses-appeal-on-sex-conviction/)

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) – A Hamtramck man convicted of having sex with a 15-year old, and tied to the case of a missing girl, has lost his appeal. The 25-year-old Jamrul Hussain, who was convicted two years ago of criminal sexual conduct, was also the last person to see two-year old, Tangena Hussain, alive before she disappeared. Hussain argued in his appeal that his Miranda rights were inadequate because they were not translated.
