Jonathon Guabello was first treated for a gunshot wound to the arm at Lee Memorial Hospital before being booked early this morning in county jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bond.
According to deputy Ryan Mackinnon, Guabello’s live-in girlfriend of five months called 911 after an intoxicated Guabello shot himself before falling on the oven, knocking him unconscious, following an argument.
The 24-year-old girlfriend said she and Guabello returned to their Fourth Street apartment around midnight from Eddie Fishbowls, where they had been fighting. He was under the influence of Xanax and alcohol, she said. She wanted to go to bed.
Guabello wanted to be intimate. When she refused, she said he became “irate.”
She took the dog and went into a spare bedroom, and several minutes later, she said she heard two gunshots.
She told Mackinnon she immediately dialed 911, and Guabello burst through the door and told her if she called for help, he would kill her. The dog then lunged at Guabello, and he responded by laughing. He said if she tried to put him in rehab, he would kill her.
He then stumbled into the kitchen and fell, hitting the oven door on his way down. The dispatcher told the woman to grab the gun from him and put it away. She did as she was told, hiding it under the bed.
When deputies arrived, they found the gun, ammunition and shell casings in the master bedroom.
Guabello was transported to the hospital, treated for two gunshot wounds to the arm and was taken to jail.
