A Toledo mother involved in a possible child abuse case is behind bars tonight. The mother is charged with child endangering. Police say she failed to protect her 11-month-old baby.

Police say the mother and her live in boyfriend kicked the baby like a kick ball. Lucas County sheriff deputy's say Joy Kinsman, 21, was booked this afternoon. According to a warrant, her baby suffered non-accidental injuries of multiple bleeding around the brain.

13abc has learned, according to EMS logs, an ambulance was sent to the baby's grandmother's house Saturday at 5:05 p.m., but no one was transported. At 7:41 p.m. that same evening, a run was made to the mother's home on Eastway. Kinsman's 11-month old daughter was taken to the hospital.

Detectives say the baby's mother was downstairs and her boyfriend, Michael Turski Jr, was upstairs when he noticed the child struggling to breath. Police arrested Turski and charged him with endangering children. Officers say he is not the baby's father. "That's basically what it comes down to. You don't know who you can trust. There's just too many horrible people out there," says a neighbor.

13abc went back to Joy Kinsman's home today. The landlord answered the door. He says he was told Kinsman would be moving out. He was just as shocked to hear Joy Kinsman is accused of abusing her own child. The boyfriend is expected to face a judge tomorrow.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - A Toledo couple who admitted to causing serious injury to a baby will be sentenced Monday, April 13.

21-year-old Micheal Turski was sentenced Monday morning. He'll spend the next four years behind bars. Joy Kinsman, the baby's mother, will be sentenced this afternoon.

Doctors say the 11-month old looked as though she was repeatedly abused and even tased.

Outside of court, Micheal Turski gave no comment to reporters as to if he beat his girlfriend's baby. He was found guilty for child endangering because he and his girlfriend called 911 last September when her daughter had stopped breathing.

They claim the baby had fallen in the tub, but then they told paramedics they'd take the girl to the hospital themselves to save money. They never did.

A few hours later, when the baby became unresponsive again, they called 911 again. This time, doctors discovered the girl had broken bones, bleeding on the brain and hemorrhaging behind the eyes.

"I think what is troubling to me is that you have failed to take full responsibility," said Judge Denise Dartt, "The reason the call had to be made was because of the abuse this little girl has suffered."

We're told the baby is now doing well and living with her grandmother.
