EDMOND, OK — A Langston University professor and his wife, a teacher at Jones Elementary School, were arrested Thursday at their home in Edmond on complaints related to sexual abuse of a child.
Reza Ross Pourdavood, 53, is named in seven complaints of sexual abuse of a child. He was released Friday afternoon from the Oklahoma County jail on $70,000 bail.
Pourdavood has been working as a math professor at Langston University for nine years.
His wife, Leah Pourdavood, 40, faces one complaint of enabling sexual child abuse. She remained in jail Friday evening on $70,000 bail.
She has been an elementary teacher in Jones for 12 years.
Edmond police were notified about the possible abuse of a teenager after the victim went to her high school counselor, according to a police report. The victim told police the abuse had been going on for at least seven years.
"This is a tragic situation,” said Glynda Chu, Edmond police spokeswoman.
Jones Superintendent Mike Steele and Ashley Gibson, Langston University director of public relations, said they were unaware of the Pourdavoods' arrests until contacted by The Oklahoman on Friday.
"Once we receive concrete evidence about the situation, he could be put on administrative leave,” Gibson said.
The university will conduct an investigation, she said. No photo of the bad professor yet.
