A 17-year-old girl is recovering from a skull fracture today after she escaped from the trunk of a moving vehicle on Friday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Her hands and feet were bound with duct tape and her head covered with an article of clothing when she was placed in the trunk of a car, deputies said.

The teen's parents, David and Peggy Ingram of Bradenton, have been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The couple was released Sunday from Manatee County Jail after posting $7,000 bail each.

The teen, whose name was not released by authorities, managed to remove the duct tape and free herself by pulling on the release cord inside the trunk, deputies said. She fell on the pavement and suffered cuts, scrapes and a skull fracture.

Authorities have not said why the incident occurred.

I'm pretty curious as to their 'reasoning' for that.
I believe in tough love and all...but that's pushing it a bit far.

As I was vacuuming my Jeep yesterday, I had this fleeting thought that, "Hey, I live in Florida, and I DON'T have a trunk." Maybe they should outlaw trunks and trailers in Florida and maybe the FUCKHEADS will leave.

On Friday night, the girl was left with her godparents while her parents went to Tampa. The girl told her godparents she had permission to see a movie with a boy, according to a sheriff’s report.

A neighbor who saw the girl get into the boy’s car called the girl’s parents, who came home from Tampa. They went to their home, where they picked up some duct tape, then went to the godparents’ home, the report stated.

There, the parents picked up the girl and began to head back home. On the way, the girl told her parents she would run away. So they stopped, put her in the trunk, taped her hands and feet, put a cap over her head and closed the trunk, according to the report.

The girl’s mother told detectives she could hear her daughter say she was sorry and beg for help from Jesus. Soon after, the girl’s father noticed the trunk was open, he told detectives.

The parents made a U-turn and found the girl wobbling by the side of the road. They took her home, noticed around midnight that she had blood on her head, and then took her to Manatee Memorial.

They told hospital workers the girl fell out of a moving vehicle, but when the girl was transferred to All Children’s, she told workers about being bound in a car trunk and the sheriff’s office was called. The parents were interviewed and arrested on Saturday.

The girl’s father told detectives this was the first time his daughter had threatened to run away. Both David and Peggy Ingram paid $3,500 bail and were released from jail on Monday, according to court records.

Mom was re-arrested.....
Sheriff's deputies re-arrested Peggy Ingram. They say she violated her terms of release by talking to her daughter and trying to get her to change her story.

Update: Mother pleads No Contest, father Not Guilty

BRADENTON — A father was found not guilty of tying up his teenager daughter and locking her in the trunk of a car Friday afternoon after a six-person jury deliberated for a little over a hour.

David Ingram, 49, was found not guilty of aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment charges.

Defense attorneys have called Ingram’s actions a desperate act to save a child who’s life had been “on the wrong track.”

“This was a scare tactic that went stupidly wrong, a desperate act to get her not to run away,” said lawyer Betsy Young, who represents Ingram with Varinia Van Ness.

It was the teen’s choice to jump from the car, Young said.

Her client, she said, may be guilty of bad judgment but is not guilty of aggravated child abuse.

Prior to Sept. 12, the teen had been acting out, Young said. Her parents learned she’d become sexually active and had gotten pregnant by an older man, known only as Eddie. Lawyers did not say how old he was.

After the teen had an abortion, her parents forbade her to see Eddie.

“We just couldn’t understand this behavior . . . sneaking around with someone we’d never met,” Peggy Ingram said on the witness stand.
